What is the primer used for the facade?
Primer for outdoor works is appreciated, above all, for its high quality characteristics. It meets the operational requirements that are important for the tenants: a stand for temperature changes, is environmentally friendly for people, is not afraid of precipitation.
From the building point of view, it can be noted that it reduces the consumption of finishing compounds applied after it, strengthens the surface, adheres well to the wall, does not let moisture into the interior, but releases steam or condensate out. In addition, it allows you to save considerably on preparatory and finishing works. But there is such a primer much more than usual.
Variety of facade primer
When choosing this finishing material, always remember that there are several types:
- The usual facade primer has the basic characteristics of this coating, but no more.
- Covering primer reliably masks dirt and stains on the prepared surface, creating a completely white surface when applied to dark areas. It is beautiful as a base for various paints, building putty, textured coverings. It also does not ignite, which ensures safety when exposed to a spark or an open flame.
- Primer for deep penetration is used to prepare wood or mineral coatings before painting or plastering works. Due to its qualitative characteristics it penetrates deeply into the surface and is a good link. Also allows you to fix loose plaster, increases the wear resistance of the coating, reduces the negative effects of the environment, increases the adhesion of paints and adhesives.
And a couple of words about the diversity. The primer is also divided according to the strength of the alkyd( not diluted, has a good degree of impregnation and provides a high level of adhesion) and acrylic( diluted with water).Primer is produced on a water basis, or on a solvent, can be both transparent and colored( pigmented) in any color. There is an option to buy either a concentrate solution, or a full, immediately diluted in the required proportions, a primer.
Recently, microbicidal facade primers( anti-bacterial, moss and mold) and anticorrosive primers( mainly for metal surfaces) have appeared on the market. Now you can go to work.
Primer for the facade - features of the
- Before applying, do not forget to carefully the work surface with a special coarse sandpaper and clean the wall of dirt and stains where it is necessary to bring the corners.
- If you use concentrate, dilute it with water in a strict proportion. Under no circumstances should use organic solvents .Now pour the composition into a convenient open container.
- Primer for the facade is evenly applied to the surface with a roller( for the entire base plane) and a small brush( in hard-to-reach places), the corners are carefully painted. When priming, avoid contact with eyes. In case of contact, wash immediately with water.
- Wash and clean tools after work. Excess primer, if it is not concentrate, can be drained back into the container. Dilute concentrate is preferably not reused.
- For better effect, ground two or more times. The drying time of the solution averages from 1 to 4 hours at a temperature of 20 degrees. Remember that it is better not to save on the front primer. Otherwise, you risk not achieving the desired effect and getting a poor-quality surface.
