Twa tiles in bathroom remodeling is not done as often as the annual replacement of the tiles is a matter of very energy-consuming and troublesome. It is much easier and more profitable to think in advance of the original layout of the tile, so that the room will please you for several years.
Tips for choosing a tile
Tile is a modern finishing material for a bathroom. And it's not so much in its aesthetic qualities, as in the advantages over other materials. Ceramic tiles are resistant to bacteria and dust, it can be cleaned easily, besides, the range of tiles in stores today is characterized by the widest variety. In addition, it has very low electrical conductivity, which is extremely important for a room where it is always wet.
Today on the shelves you can see a huge variety of ceramic tiles, but not every model is suitable for bathroom repair. This is due to the fact that a universal tile, suitable for finishing any surface, simply does not exist. Therefore, when selecting the finishing material, it is necessary to focus on the data located on the label of the product.
Indicators
When selecting a tile for a bathroom, consider the following indicators.
Moisture Absorption
As the bathroom is a room where humidity is always increased, it is extremely important to choose a waterproof material for the cladding that will not lose its attractive appearance in the course of time.
The ability to absorb moisture all ceramic tiles is divided into 8 groups. To repair the bathroom you need to choose a tile, belonging to the 1 st, 2 nd or 3 rd group. The 4th and all the other groups following it are characterized by high porosity and are not suitable for wet rooms.
Resistance to chemical agents
Since the bathroom needs to be cleaned frequently, various kinds of cosmetics will fall on the tile in any case. The ability of the tile surface to withstand the effects of household chemicals is marked in Latin letters. For the bathroom, the tile with the "AA" marking is ideal.
Assignment of tiles
Based on the purposes for which tile is used, the material selected exclusively for walls and flooring material is highlighted. The first is marked with a pictogram in the form of a palm image.
The floor tile is distinguished by a pictogram in the form of a foot pattern and is also divided into classes, depending on the level of abrasion resistance. As you know, a very small number of people usually use a bathroom, so it will be enough to buy a tile of the 2nd class of strength( designated "PEI II").
Buy material that is more resistant to abrasion, there is no need - the higher the strength class, the more expensive the price. You can see the notation of the other picotgraphs in the picture below.
Shape and design of
To determine the size of tiles, you need to rely not only on your taste - you should take into account the fact that a large tile is suitable only for spacious rooms, and shall be fine for finishing curved surfaces.
As for the texture, the glossy tile is excellent for rooms of small dimensions, since they can visually make them more spacious.
But matt tiles have a number of advantages: it is not so visible pollution and flaws. Concerning the color of the material, it is already necessary to trust your own taste. But many designers recommend quiet light colors as a basis. It is more expedient to use a tile of saturated colors for accents.

Options for combining
There are a lot of options for laying out tiles. Each of them has its own advantages. Let's consider the main types.
Straight
The most common and at the same time the easiest way to lay out the tiles is the straight - the tile is parallel to the floor, ceiling and walls. For this option is suitable and square tiles, and rectangular.
is used when you want to achieve the effect of masonry imitation. It will be especially advantageous if the width of the tile is half its length. The most difficult variant of the calculation is the diagonal. Here it is necessary to cut the tiles quite often, so, without the appropriate skills, it is not necessary to undertake such a process. Laying "diagonally" - a more beautiful way of laying tiles, in comparison with the previous ones, however, it is more difficult to perform. Its features are that the tile rows should go not parallel to the surface of the walls, but at an angle( usually 45 °). Diagonal stitching is not suitable for every room. So, for example, in a small area it is better not to use it, as it visually reduces the room and emphasizes all its shortcomings. And for large bathrooms, tiles laid in a diagonal way can create a real miracle. If you choose the right texture and pattern of tiles, it will be possible to easily select the decor elements you need;In addition, with the help of a properly selected color, you can hide any design flaws. If tiles of different sizes are used, this type of calculation is called "modular".It is with this method that you can form an unusual pattern. The real top of the art is an art piece that combines straight and diagonal, as well as tiles of various colors. Another popular method for laying out tiles is the so-called "horizontal", which is a combination of a dark bottom and a light top. As a transition from dark tiles to light, a curb( usually monochrome) is used. Usually, in order to give the space of the room a complete view, this curb also fits under the ceiling. It is very important to use this method of laying a single-colored tile without drawings and decor. "Vertical" version of the layout of tiles is distinguished by the fact that the strip of bright, prominent tiles should go from the wall to the floor. This solution is currently at the height of fashion. Through this cunning technique, the height of the bathroom increases. And if you also highlight this contrasting strip any significant, in your opinion, elements of the interior, the room will undoubtedly change. Bathroom zoning can be rightly called a necessity in any apartment, as people buy lodging recently prefer to stop at free planning - this allows them to implement zoning of the premises themselves. One of the most spectacular varieties of zoning bathroom is the color zoning. To do this, you need to select one collection of tiles and, accordingly, make a layout by color. Colors can be the most diverse - bright, juicy, contrasting, and you can choose the same color tone. With their help it is quite possible to organize a whole composition - for example, to "install" a bath on the podium, which is finished with the same tile as the walls of the room. If in the interior there is expensive plumbing, you can draw on it the accent, "placing" it on a tile that was not used in the finish. Thus, in general, you can select any element of the interior, worthy, in your opinion, attention. When choosing a tile for a small bathroom, experts advise to choose a tile of small, soft, gentle tones. Very good suited tile-mosaic, capable of visually expand the space. However, if you still prefer saturated colors, it is best to combine light tiles with more juicy shades. To create the illusion of a large room, there is a very effective reception - a light strip that will "go" in the middle of the bathroom, as if sharing space. It should be remembered that the tile of light colors will always visually increase in the dimensions of the room, and dark shades - on the contrary, reduce. Even if you want to combine a light and a dark tone, the first must prevail. Floor tiles are also better to choose light colors. As the mirrors also help to visually increase the space, it makes sense to use a mirror tile. For a room with low ceilings, it is best to choose a vertical tiling of light tones - the verticals will "pull out" the room, and the light color, as already mentioned, visually expands the space. There are several options for laying tiles. Let's consider the basic. The simplest basic scheme is called "seam in seam" or "straight rows".The rows of tiles should go exceptionally horizontally, in level. At the same tile should be the same size or with a minimal spread in dimensions. Another method of laying is "chess", which is a variation on the "seam in the seam", but using tiles of two different colors. The laying of the "dressing" is very similar to the brickwork. It is made as follows: in each successive row, each tile is positioned in such a way that the middle of it is above the interlacing seam of the row lying on the bottom. Unlike the previous type, this method is realized only by horizontal rows and allows some difference in the size of the tile. Modular method of laying tiles consists of using 3 or more different types of tiles, so you can create a dynamic drawing. This can be anything: the inclusion of bright details in a monotonous plane, a clear pattern, etc. This method requires the layout of materials without gluing. To pick up a spectacular figure, you need to consider many factors: the shape and size of the bathroom, as well as the type of tile used. But before thinking about how best to lay out the tile in the bathroom, you need to make a plan of the room - draw on paper approximately, but keeping the proportion, your bathroom. Make the sketch larger to accommodate the placement of the smallest details. Then, using a tape measure, measure the width and height of your bathroom, the dimensions of the doorway, niches, etc. All measurements should be indicated in the figure. Do not forget to also note on the sketch the plumber, which you are going to place, and its dimensions. Then compare the resulting schematic drawing with the real room. Remember that the consequences of miscalculation, even in a couple of centimeters, can be that a beautiful element of the tile will be closed and then many of your efforts will be wasted. As the tile - the material is far from cheap, you need to accurately calculate the necessary quantity for repair, in order to avoid unnecessary waste. To do this, it is required to measure the surfaces that are supposed to be coated. Knowing the length and height of the walls, you can easily calculate the area of walls and floor. And by dividing this value by the area of one tile, you will learn the number of tiles in pieces. But keep in mind that the stock of tiles will never hurt - part of the tile may need to be cut, and some can be damaged or broken in the process of work.
