Thermal insulation of windows - where to start?

Self-insulation of window slopes is not a difficult task. To begin it costs from afar, that is we will examine everything that is around the window. Check for voids in the frame space. If there are no visual defects, knock out, and, revealing the emptiness, pick out the plaster. Fill the gap with the construction foam, this is the most practical way to solve such problems.

Foam is applied layer by layer, to a thickness of at least 3 cm. It is better to use a construction gun. Attention! The mounting foam is blown to the level of the exterior finish, do not cut the excess, in any case, try to avoid it, because this negatively affects the life of this sealant.

Place the installation joint with a sealant( eg Steeze A ).After waiting for complete drying( usually 24 hours), level the surface with a primer. Next, dry and paint over thixotropic alkyd enamel.

Please, be attentive to this issue.in the voids accumulates moisture, condensation settles and over time mold and fungi appear, which destroys the wall and has an unpleasant smell.

External insulation of windows - second stage

It is necessary to seal the gap between the frame and the window sill from the outside. Use a silicone sealant, as a rule, the gap remains small, most often it is invisible, and a light draft is present.

Process the joints of the frame and window opening along the entire perimeter and get the ideal thermal insulation for years to come. From the inside of the window can be insulated with a multi-layer panel, in which there is an internal heat-insulating layer. Such a panel is called a "sandwich" and is sold in any construction shop.

Now it's time to do a little cleaning of the window frame and the surfaces close to it from surplus construction work( pieces of dried foam, silicone and plaster).It is sufficient to use a knife or spatula. This is a necessary step to hold the slopes more firmly, they are installed on a dry, clean and even surface.

Ways to heat the slopes of windows

There are two most common options for thermal insulation of slopes: sheet plastic materials or plaster. External insulation of windows can be performed with the usual plaster .But this method has its drawbacks. Plaster from the temperature drop quickly cracked. Service life in perfect condition is 1-2 years. The second drawback is dirt during construction work.

Plastic slopes have a significant advantage:

  • aesthetic appearance;
  • mounting is quick and clean;
  • application of insulated slopes will be an additional advantage, in such slopes under the thermal insulating panel there is a heater of the zone of abutment of the window to the aperture;
  • plastic slope for 15 years will serve as a thermal insulator between the room and the weather.

Please note that many construction companies offer a quick replacement of old windows with new ones. All works are carried out within 2-3 hours. Perhaps you are lucky and do not have to remove the frames and make the installation yourself. But, as they say, you go quietly, you will continue. Follow our instructions, take care of the insulation and sealing, and the windows will last 20 years without problems.
