In order for the light to light up, the smallest voltage is enough. The resistor installed in the switch is a current limiter. He does not miss excess current. To ignite the lamp, this voltage is not enough, therefore, through the lighting circuit, the room lighting lamp does not light.
How to connect the light in the switch
Before doing any work related to electricity, make sure that the voltage is turned off - this will ensure safe operation in the future.
You can connect the lighting of the electric switch either from the electrical panel or from the junction box.
In order for the LED to function normally when the switch is connected, it is only necessary to connect all the wiring correctly. Here is the main way to do this quickly and successfully:
- The device must have three wires, they need to be spread in different directions to avoid short circuits.
- Now you need to determine which of the three available wiring is phase and which are zero. Usually, the postings should be marked, but when buying, do not always pay attention to it. Therefore, if you purchased a switch without marking, the wiring can be checked using a screwdriver-indicator. If the indicator lights up when you touch the wiring, it means that the cable is phase, and if it does not, it is zero.
- Now it is necessary to connect all the wires according to the scheme from the package of the device, observing the order of priority.
Please note! In most cases, when using backlighting, the neutral wire will be non-working, so it does not make sense to connect it.
In the second case, the connection is made using a neutral wire( if this is provided by the connection diagram that came with the device).Just like in the first case, all the existing wiring needs to be checked by the indicator to determine which of them are phase ones and which ones are zero.
The phase conductors should be connected to the phase wires, and the neutral wires must be connected to the light indicator.
After the wires are connected, you need to check how well the electrical switch is installed and turn on the voltage in the switchboard. The backlight should light up when the main room lighting is off, and when the light is on it goes out. If everything functions normally, then the work is done correctly.

- insulating tape.
The backlight is divided into two main types: it can be either external or built-in. Also it can serve as a nightlight.
Please note! It should be remembered that lighting is not recommended in those rooms where energy-saving light bulbs are installed. If it is done there, the lamp will flash. This happens because a small voltage can flow through a circuit that charges a neon light bulb.
In order to install an external illumination it is recommended to choose either a neon or a small incandescent lamp not more than 6 watts.
How to make a lighted switch yourself?
- The first thing to do is to assemble a chain, alternately connecting a neon lamp and a current limiter. After that, the place where they are connected, you need to be well insulated.
- Now you can remove the box from the switch and connect it to the terminals. The filament lamp is also connected to the circuit, only in this case the current limiter is not needed. The built-in backlight uses an LED.As in the first case, the LED must be connected to a current-limiting device and the place of their connection must be insulated.
- Now remove the box from the switch and make small holes in it, through which the illumination will be carried out. The hole in the box should be made where there is no LED or current limiting device.
- Now install the switch cover in its original position. That's ready switch, which does not need to search long in the dark.
