Elegant wall panels are an excellent interior decoration. They are undemanding to operating conditions, simple and cheap to maintain. The panels are made of various materials - plastic, wood, fiberboard, PVC, due to what differ in properties and appearance. With this in mind, wall decoration with plastic panels is considered one of the simplest, cheapest and most effective ways to equip the room the way you want.

wall panel varieties
finish types Depending on the shape, the panels of the following varieties are distinguished:
• rack and pin type - they are oblong plates made of wood, chipboard, PVC, fiberboard or MDF.These panels for interior decoration of walls have a length of 240 to 370 centimeters, a width of 12.5 to 30 centimeters and a thickness of 0.8 to 1.2 centimeters. To connect to each other, the panels have grooves and spikes. It is possible to install the liner in horizontal and vertical orientation;
• tiled composites - are squares with a side length of 30 to 98 centimeters. Such panels on the wall are great for creating mosaics, because each of them has its own color and texture. The material for the coating is MDF, fiberboard, PVC and chipboard. To join the slabs, slots and inserts are used;
• leaf - better than others proved themselves when decorating walls of a large area. Dimensions of their sides can vary from 122 to 244 centimeters at a thickness of 0.3 to 0.6 centimeters. Unlike other materials, sheet panels on the wall are made only of wood or resin impregnated with fiberboard.
The ways of fixing the plates differ. Thus, the rack-mountable panels for wall finishing are fixed on the crate, tiled - with the help of clamps or gluing composition. The glue is also used for fixing sheet panels, and the seams between the coating elements are masked with moldings. How can I independently install PVC on the ceiling?watch the video and read here.
Classic paneling solutions for
panels. When plastic panels are finished with their own hands, one must take into account not only the type of coating elements, but also the material of their manufacture.
Wooden products are considered reliable, they are made from such species of wood as alder, maple, oak or cedar.
Sometimes the finish has a wax coating, due to which it can be operated in rooms with a high humidity level. Since the wooden wall panels for the walls are environmentally friendly, they are recommended for use in residential areas.
Popular products made of fiberboard - a material consisting of woody vegetable fibers. They are also safe for human health, they are resistant to high humidity, but they become unfit for direct contact with water. In turn, the paneling made of particleboard for interior decoration of walls in appearance and qualities is similar to wood. This is due to the fact that the EAF is a pressed waste wood production. The drawback of this material is the poor tolerance of sharp changes in the temperature-humidity regime.
Panels made of MDF, are highly resistant to almost any environmental factors. Wood-fiber boards are obtained as a result of applying the method of dry pressing, so they are not afraid of moisture and mechanical loads. It is recommended to decorate the walls with MDF panels such as those rooms where conventional materials are short-lived or ineffective.
All mentioned types of panels are recommended for use in residential areas. With due care, their service life will be more than 10 years. Especially long service life is possessed by wooden wall panels for wall finishing: if they are made of high-quality wood, they will retain their original appearance for several decades.
Panels from new materials
Gypsum-made panels are known for their reliability and durability. The material of their manufacture is a modification of plasterboard, and is similar in its properties. On the best side, plastic panels for walls for interior decoration, which are not demanding of operating conditions and easy to maintain, demonstrated themselves.
New in the building materials market are glass panels and 3D panels. The first are designed to apply photographic drawings to the surface of walls, the latter have an unusual texture with hypertrophied relief. Made of 3D-panels of all the above materials, as well as aluminum.
It is allowed to decorate walls in residential, commercial and public establishments with plastic panels. Often this coating is used in schools and kindergartens, because it is considered environmentally friendly. In turn, glass panels are as safe as plastic, and are able to withstand significant mechanical loads, but are less common, since they are more expensive. The same goes for the growing popularity of 3D panels.
Installation of
wall panels To attach panels to the wall surface, you will need the following tools:
• wood hacksaw;
• electric drill;
• screwdriver or screwdriver;
• hacksaw or scissors for cutting metal;
• hammer;
• Construction level;
• Roulette;
• stepladder.
The wall panels are finished only after the surface to be treated is leveled and cleaned of dust, paint or wallpaper. Begin the work with the measurement of the area that the coating will occupy. At this time, the panels are allowed to lie indoors - so that the material adapts to room temperature, it takes more than half an hour. Do not remove the protective film from the panels: do this when the installation is completed. The film will avoid accidental damage.
If you plan to install the panels, you need to make a crate. It is a wooden slats or metal slats, located in steps of 30-40 centimeters. The direction of the rails depends on how the wooden plastic panels for the interior decoration of the walls will be attached: the elements of the lath and the covers must be perpendicular to each other.
For tile and sheet panels the lath is not needed. Also, it is possible to do without it if the surface to be treated is made of a flexible material: then the walls are trimmed with wall panels using self-tapping screws, clamps or staples driven by a special stapler.
It is recommended to proceed directly to the installation of the plates after the hardware is attached - external and internal corners, finishing elements, ceiling skirting. Each panel for wall finishing has on one side a mounting shelf, on the other - a mounting shelf. Installation of panels with a horizontal orientation is made from the floor to the ceiling by the mounting shelf down. From the side of the mounting shelf, the panel is fixed with screws, staples, nails or glue. Then the fastening shelf of the next panel joins it. The cladding elements are fitted as tightly as possible to each other.
In the same way, sheet plastic panels are fastened to the inner walls: the slabs also have grooves with which they fit together. When installing the last panel that completes the row, it will be necessary to force it between the hardware and the last panel. Sometimes you need to change the size of the sheet using scissors or a hacksaw.
