Types of noise and insulation materials

Noise insulation of the ceiling in the apartment, first of all, prevents the penetration of various kinds of noise into the room. There are two types of noise: air and shock. Air noise comes from living voice, TV and street sounds, which is transmitted through the air through ventilation systems and open windows. Shock noise appears mechanically, for example, impacts on the wall or the sound of moving furniture. It is transferred through walls, ceiling and heating systems.

As sound insulation materials, you can use basalt cotton wool, polystyrene, polystyrene slab, cork cover, foam glass, linen tow mats, staple fiberglass, and the like. Noise isolation is carried out by several methods using an additional ceiling system.

Methods for soundproofing the ceiling in the apartment

There are several ways of soundproofing the upper slabs:

  • suspended ceilings - a variant where the metal frame is fixed to the ceiling and plates are put there;
  • filed ceiling - metal frame with soundproofing plates is plastered from below with plasterboard slabs;
  • stretch ceilings, soundproofing which is carried out with the help of special brackets, which stretches the fabric or film coating.

The most popular methods are the installation of an acoustic version of suspended ceilings and finishing with plasterboard slabs, under which the material is placed. Good sound insulation of the ceiling in the apartment is made of mineral wool slabs. The sound absorption coefficient, thus, is 70-95%.

The frame system is fixed to the ceiling, and a plate is placed in the cavity between it and the ceiling. Gypsum boards are mounted on top of the frame, after which it is possible to decorate the surface.

In addition, a common type are acoustic stretch ceilings. Due to the perforated fabric, the maximum level of noise insulation is achieved. Cork ceilings also have good sound damping properties, thanks to their porous structure and special molecular structure.

Sound insulation of the ceiling - we create silence with our own hands

The sound insulation of the ceiling with our own hands is a laborious process, so you should be patient. For work you will need: plasterboard, metal framework of profiles, fasteners, level, tape measure, pencil, acrylic sealant, metal scissors, mineral wool or glass wool.

Before making noise insulation of the ceiling, it is necessary to seal all the seams, cracks and cracks on the surface with acrylic sealant in order to reduce the sound permeability. For the starting profile of the structure on the wall, we apply a line, retreating 15-20 cm below the ceiling. For this it is better to use the level.

With dowels in 40-60 cm increments, the initial profile is fixed along the perimeter. Then marking is done for the main bearing rails, we measure 125 cm between them. It is this size that has half the plaster board. The hangers are fixed on the planned lines in steps of 40 cm.

Next, the bearing guides are screwed with metal screws at a small distance from the wall so that the ceiling does not deform under any circumstances. Marking under the cross rails is drawn in increments of 60 cm. With the scissors on the metal, the required length of the cross guides is cut off.

Then they should be fixed. All cavities in the frame are filled with cotton. Then, every 20 cm screws are attached to the plasterboard. Between the slabs of gypsum board there should be a gap of about 2-3 mm. Then the seams between the sheets are grouted and overwritten. The ceiling is ready for painting or other kind of furnish.
