Quite often, the owners of private, and not only, houses face the problem of replacing electrical wiring. First of all, this applies to houses built in those days when there were completely different requirements, both in terms of power and quality of workmanship. Actually, in modern country houses there are no less difficulties.

If in an old village house, you can limit yourself to a partial replacement of wiring, then during construction cottage, it is also necessary to design and calculate the entire electrical wiring system, not to mention installation.

Of course, it is best to leave this problem to professionals, call an electrician and find out the prices for electrical work, especially if not even basic knowledge of electricity, but there are additional funds. If you have the necessary skills, and there is also a desire to save a lot, then it is quite possible to manage on your own.

First of all, you need to decide on the type of future wiring. There are only three of them:

  • outdoor installation,
  • hidden,
  • combined.

For open installation wires are attached directly to the walls or ceiling. In any way possible, of course, taking into account safety rules. Most often, with the help of small tin strips, screwed to the wall in the middle, and wrapping them around the wire. This is the easiest and fastest method, but at the same time it is rather unaesthetic. Usually it is used not in living rooms, but, for example, in utility rooms or a garage.

Concealed installation implies the laying of wires inside the walls, in special channels that are cut out or hollowed out, followed by closing with finishing materials. It is considered the safest, since the wires are maximally protected from external influences. Another advantage of this method can be considered the attractiveness of the overall appearance.

With hidden installation in the room, you can see only sockets, lamps, and switches that fit very organically into the interior. Of the shortcomings, it should be noted that this method of installation is possible only during construction or major repairs. And also, if an error was made in the calculation, and as a result of an accident, the repair is very difficult, due to limited access to the wiring.

Combined method is probably the ideal option, as it very successfully combines all the advantages of both open and hidden methods, and at the same time has no disadvantages.

After determining the type of wiring, it is necessary to draw up a detailed diagram. There is no need to be afraid, there is nothing difficult in this. It is not at all necessary to be a professional electrician and know all the rules for drawing up diagrams for electrical work.

It is enough to sketch the room, and mark in it all the intended sockets, switches, lamps and other electrical appliances, and the wires supplied to them. The main thing is to be clear to yourself. In this case, you need to know the overall dimensions of the room. And already, based on the resulting scheme and dimensions, approximately how many meters of wire will be needed. Just in case, it is recommended to add 20% to the result.
