A trend is not always an offer of something new. A trend can repeat itself year after year, and one such “constancy” is environmental friendliness. Over the past few years, designers (here we can talk about the professions of other areas in general) prefer to pay maximum attention to environmental materials, bringing minimal damage to health: wood, natural stone, glass, as well as recycled plastic materials, etc. What new will bring us in 2023 in the interior kitchens?

Modularity
Cabinet furniture should still be comfortable for all family members. Modularity has shown itself on the beautiful side, so 2023 is extending and increasing the popularity of modular furniture. Thanks to such “modules”, designers not only assemble the interior like a Lego set, but also create comfort, while expanding the space. The secret of the visual expansion of the room also lies in the absence of fittings: the built-in modular furniture is invisible to the eye. All we see is smooth surfaces of materials. At the same time, a kitchen set built into the interior can be continued, for example, in the form of panels of the same material, shape, texture on the wall, creating a single space.
stealth
Invisible kitchen set, despite the high cost, also remains in trend. hidden kitchen, hidden hood, retractable sockets, built-in knife racks or compartments for storing spice jars (the so-called S-box system - storage system inside the table and sliding the panel with one touch of a finger) and so on - all this was not created in order to be in the top of fashionable interiors, just on season. 2023 gives the green light to everything built-in and hidden, including every little thing.
Minimalism in the design of the kitchen gives the room not only simplicity and conciseness, but also style. Therefore, the designers tried to hide working moments from view by using an accordion door, folding doors of individual kitchen units, sliding doors on the principle of a wardrobe, etc. look at photo below.
Transformation
We have already said that functionality remains a priority when designing a kitchen interior. Especially given the fact that many kitchens have small areas, the task of the designer is to save every centimeter of the room. Transformation of objects comes to the rescue, that is, an instant transition from one state to another. First of all, this applies to countertops, including island systems, when the hob and sink can be hidden under a retractable surface. At the same time, the transformable structure itself can also be with a “secret”: contain hidden places for storing kitchen utensils (knives, forks, spoons), spice jars, etc. see photo below.
Form
The form of furniture and objects has always undergone changes. Classic strict straight lines turned into smooth rounded shapes. dining tables, decor in the form mirrors etc., starting from 2022, they have ceased to be “simple”. Since there are no clear lines in nature, this trend has gradually penetrated into our premises, “rebuilding” habitual squares and rectangles into ovals, irregular geometric shapes, for example, into a natural shape drops. At the same time, the absence of sharp corners is almost a prerequisite.
2023 is betting on “soaring", air furniture. All this is not done to make your guests solve the riddle of levitation. sofa, and expand the space, let light into the kitchen even in the most hidden places - under the furniture. And if you hold under the “hanging” kitchen set backlight, the magical effect of soaring is guaranteed! Outside the window is an era of lightness and transparency: not only facades, but also frames become transparent, glassy.
Cushioned furniture
Upholstered furniture in 2023 also has airy, lush, puffy shapes, which is associated with the cloud. It is better to choose the minimum height of the sofa, and the maximum width of the seat, but most importantly, it should be comfortable, comparable to a large pouf, on which you just want to lie down. The form of upholstered furniture does not matter: it is important that comfort for the person is achieved. Round, oval, rectangular with rounded edges, irregular or complex shape, the sofa is designed by manufacturers to be as comfortable as possible. Beauty takes second place here.
Modularity in furniture is also present: the owner of the kitchen has the opportunity to arrange objects as he needs at a particular moment in time.
Convenience, simplicity and functionality are trends that will not become obsolete in the coming years.
Transformable modular furniture system gives you endless possibilities. Uncomplicated simple lines of furniture, fashionable in 2023, fit into the kitchen-living room any style. Modules can have different sizes: from small to very large with the ability to transform them among themselves or leave them single, which will also be appropriate. We look at the photo.
Upholstered furniture finishing
Soft, pleasant natural upholstery materials will give the kitchen-living room freshness and elegance. Among the representatives of eco-materials, it stands out especially boucle fabric. It is impossible to call bouclé fabric a favorite among buyers, despite the fact that the furniture, upholstered with it, gives the kitchen more airiness and comfort. Having a special texture in the form of “pellets” (knots or curls), the fabric plays in a special way in the light, giving the furniture a more complex, embossed shape.
Boucle can be made:
- from synthetic fibers (polyester, polypropylene, which increase the quality characteristics of the fabric, which makes it more durable and less wrinkled),
- from artificial fibers (viscose and acetate, made from cellulose raw materials and having properties characteristic of natural fabrics),
- from fiber containing natural cotton, silk or wool, but the cost of such material will be higher,
- from mixed fibres.
The main difference between bouclé fabric and others is softness, “looseness”, the absence of creases and wrinkling due to special weaving using thick threads and regardless of the composition of the fiber. Also, the boucle has excellent breathability, the fabric is easy to care for. Its main drawback is the same texture: the material is often subject to the appearance of puffs, especially in those houses where animals live. Although manufacturers insist that thanks to new technologies, puffs are excluded. It is also not recommended to place a sofa with boucle upholstery close to a cooking area or a sink, since the fabric absorbs moisture very well, while dirt is quite difficult to remove.
Backlight
Illumination smoothly transitions from fashion 2022 (and other previous years) in 2023. The kitchen façade, pierced by muted LED lighting, which gives the interior magic, is no longer alone - it is joined by the lighting of upholstered furniture. This can be lighting a certain part of the furniture (for example, armrests) or an LED strip laid underneath the sofa. Again we get the effect of hovering.
Color
Since environmental friendliness causes the right association with nature, in the case of color for the kitchen, everything becomes clear: all scales, tones, shades taken from nature will be fashionable. With the addition of soft matte shades, this association will only intensify.
There is no place for acid colors in the kitchen of 2023 - the main accent shade is muted, calm, but noble scales: terracotta or mustard, deep shades blue or blue, brick or rust, milky or cream, shades of soft orange and, of course, natural green in a calm shade (sage, olive). It can be both colors combined with each other, and independent accent spots. The color palette is wide, so everyone will find what they want.
Material
When finishing the kitchen facade, wood, metal, marble, glass and other natural materials are still used.
Tree
Wood remains the leading material in the kitchen. A piece of nature in the house creates a certain mood for the whole interior. Light oak, dark walnut - any kind of material will fit perfectly into a modern kitchen. The main "highlight" when using wood in the interior of the kitchen is to show all the "flaws" and "shortcomings" of the tree and turn them into advantages: a unique, but not ideal pattern of a tree in a saw cut, for example, twisted growth rings, a healed wound and others
Nature is not perfect, but it is beautiful with all its imperfections.
Glass
Glass has recently become more common in interiors. Trend 2023 - glass kitchen fronts, glass dining tables, fully transparent display cabinets, glass tabletops etc. At the same time, both the texture and shades of glass can be any: tinted, colored, smooth, corrugated, etc.
Transparent glass with a metal mesh inside, which is gaining popularity, is most often used in the form of partitions For room zoning or as a table top.
This decorative triplex glass, the peculiarity of which is that between the two glass layers there is a third - a metal mesh. The advantage of such glass is not only increased strength, but also the presence of good light transmission.
Combination Murano (or Venetian) glass and glass chips — a new trend of the current year, smoothly turning into 2023. Glass chips are created by crushing the waste of rolled painted or unpainted glass. The main use of this material is decoration.
Glass is undergoing changes, becoming a more complex, multidimensional material, which becomes a real godsend for the designer. You can experiment a lot with a glass surface without worrying about safety: tempered glass has a very high strength, while maintaining environmental friendliness.
For example, a popular Italian company Glas Italia, founded in 1972, produces a new “shape” of glass every year. At the Milan Exhibition in 2022 (Salone del Mobile. Milano 2022) the company presented to the audience a table made of a combination of glass and glass chips. The coldness and unfriendliness of the material familiar to us is replaced by a pleasant tactility and visual nobility - such a piece of furniture will add luxury and sophistication to the kitchen. We look at the photo below.
Also among the novelties of Glas Italia are glass transparent broken mirror effect tableshaving either a low percentage of light penetration, or a standard one. It is possible to build in the backlight. In this case, the light, as if captured by the table, will saturate the glass with a glow, gently spreading it over the entire internal area.
Porcelain stoneware
Porcelain stoneware is considered an environmentally friendly and incredibly hard material that meets strict standards. Due to its characteristics, it has long been entrenched in the top favorite materials for designers and builders. Having a wide range of colors, textures, sizes, it easily fits into the interior of the kitchen, giving it chic and elegance. Porcelain stoneware continues to excel when laid on the floor, on walls or as a countertop.
Most often, a more practical brushed metal (copper as a finish) is used, which gives the kitchen nobility. At the same time, the number and size of metal products can be loved: from small inserts, decor, supporting elements to monolithic solutions, for example, a single metal tabletop islands with built-in sink of the same material. Such a futuristic kitchen, of course, will require more financial expenses, moreover, such a cold and strict style is not suitable for everyone.
Original design solution panelsmade of glossy stainless steel metalvisually perceived as a mirror.
Marble
Marble remains one of designers' favorite natural materials. And if earlier they made a single surface from it (for example, the table top of a dining table), now there is a “probing” of a new trend: combining marble with another material. This way it happens combination of materials, literally their “rotation” into each other with the visual effect of a single whole object.
Carpets
Carpets still become a stumbling block for many people: while some prove their uselessness in the kitchen space, others, on the contrary, see only positive aspects in them. The owner of the house himself decides whether he wants to cover the kitchen floors with carpets or not. In the case of the kitchen-living room, the rug can become the main highlight of the interior. For example, at an exhibition in Milan, designer Clara von Zweigberk offered her own version of the flooring, inspired by her childhood memories. Crocheted rugs include a combination of threads of different thicknesses and trendy colors. What came out of it, look at the photo below.
Showcases
Display cabinets continue to be a popular piece of furniture in modern kitchens. In combination with transparent or frosted glass, they become literally airy and even transparent, allowing you to visually expand the space of the room. Permeated with lighting, in the evening interior, showcases will give the kitchen additional comfort and magic.
Hidden induction hob
The main novelty of 2022, which is sure to become very popular in the coming years, is the inconspicuous induction cooker. In pursuit of space savings, manufacturers induction hobs managed to literally build them into the work surface - into the countertop. Now, after cooking in place of the stove, you can perform any kitchen tasks using the surface as an ordinary table.
Wallpaper
Gone are the days when wallpaper covered all the walls of the premises. However, it cannot be said that they have completely gone out of fashion. The trend of recent years, including 2023, is wallpaper on one of the walls of the kitchen with a full-fledged drawing-picture, which is not will catch the eye due to the bright and flashy content, but be the accent spot of the kitchen even with muted shades. Also, do not forget about the wallpaper material. The priority is still environmental friendliness, durability, reliability.
island systems
Island systems not only do not go out of fashion, but are also gaining momentum in their popularity due to their functionality. The countertop of the kitchen island can “hide” an induction cooker in itself (as we talked about earlier); can be divided using different materials (for example, marble and wood) into a working space and a dining area; transform, saving space and using it in a new way. The island often remains the subject of zoning the premises, while one part of it may belong to one zone (cooking zone), the other part to another zone (guest). An example is in the picture below.
Kitchen style
If we put together everything that we have already said (trend colors, the shape of the kitchen set, the uniformity materials, minimalism in execution), we can draw an unambiguous conclusion: we are talking more about scandinavian style. The use of light shades, conciseness, straight lines, a minimum of decor and details, discreet accents in the form of muted but colored spots - all this is about the Scandinavian style. Of course, it may not be performed in its pure form, but the main idea of purity and clarity will be traced.
This is not to say that other styles are not suitable for kitchen 2023: design is an individual concept that reflects the desires and inner world of each client. Styles will also remain popular in the year of the black rabbit loft And high tech.
