Many homeowners feel that the sewage ventilation in the form of risers above the roof serves to eliminate unpleasant odors and ensure the removal of gases from the septic tank. But it is not so. The main purpose of the vent stack is to eliminate the likelihood of vacuum formations in the branch pipes when draining sewage.
In the case of autonomous operation of the sewage system, the discharge volume is negligible, and there is no smell from the septic tank. However, this problem often arises during the active pumping of sewage by a sewage machine. In this case, the riser, even if it is high above the roof, is not able to save from the smells present. Installation of external ventilation
Two outdoor sewage pipes made of PVC are used for external ventilation. A lower pipe with a diameter of 100 mm is installed in the septic overlap so that it rises above the ground level to a height that excludes the penetration of flood waters. The upper tube of a smaller diameter( typically 50 mm) is inserted into the bottom hole through the adapter and taken out to the roof of the house or to a sufficiently large height.
Such a simple arrangement of ventilation of the septic tank allows to ensure complete absence of unpleasant odors.
Application of the
ventilation valve The expensive installation of the riser can be replaced by a vent valve, which can be done by yourself. Ventilation valves for the sewage system can be several options, but for their manufacture are used improvised materials, which are always available from any home master.
The main advantage of such a valve is its ability to prevent the release of warm air from the septic tank, thus preventing the possibility of frost in the sewage pipes. Ventilation risers, which are mounted normally, do not interfere with this movement, as a result of which freezing of sewer pipes outside the house is possible.
How to make the simplest
- valve Take the spring from the ballpoint pen and pick up a 45 mm long screw that matches the diameter of the spring.
- From thick plastic cut washer diameter 50 mm. Drill such a hole in the center of the washer so that the screw passes into it freely. The spring must not enter the hole, it must rest against the washer.
- Cut another washer of a larger diameter( 60 mm) from the dense thin foam rubber. In its center make a hole for the self-tapping screw. Both washers glued together with the glue "Moment".
- Take the end tee cap with a diameter of 100 mm and drill three holes in it with a diameter of no more than 5 mm. The distance between the center of the lid and these openings should not exceed 20-25 mm. Be sure to remove the burrs on the inside of the lid. At the center of the lid, pierce a thin hole with a knife and wrap the scraper there, collecting all the valve components.
Checking the operation of the
valve When assembling the valve, you should check its functioning. For this purpose, it is necessary to blow one by one into the holes made. The passage of air must be free. If a large force is required during inflation, the screw must be loosened, thereby weakening the force of the spring.
Such a test allows you to verify the operation of the valve, the task of which is to keep the gases coming out of the septic tank and to protect the closures when draining from the suction of water. The use of such valves in sewer ventilation provides sufficient reliability and efficiency. In the case of a given ventilation device in a two-story house, a valve should be installed for each drainage branch.
