On the street, we look up to see a month or passing clouds, and if we are indoors, then our eyes rest on the ceiling. On the street we see a vast space, at home - a dead end. But this is only in some cases. It is possible to choose a ceiling covering in your home so well that they will enjoy its beauty. Use, for example, wallpaper for the ceiling for painting, and your house will be significantly transformed, you just have to work a little with your imagination.

How to choose a wallpaper

Before choosing a wallpaper for the ceiling, make sure that the surface is quite even and the material you have chosen will lie well on it. If everything is in order, feel free to go shopping. Firstly, wallpapers that can be painted and painted are quite affordable, and secondly, they hide the presence of small ceiling defects, dents and bulges.

There are two types of wallpaper for painting:

• Non-woven. This wallpaper is also called breathable. Non-woven wallpaper do not contain harmful substances, and therefore are ideal for children's rooms. They consist of a rather fragile material, but after painting they become much stronger. It is pleasant to work with non-woven fabric - it simply glues, rarely deforms and does not swell.

• Cullets. They are made from a mixture of soda, lime, sand and dolomite. Such material is considered fireproof, it can often be washed, even with coarse brushes, and repaint, moreover, it is applied to almost any surface and does not require pre-treatment the ceiling.

All of them are sold in white, for painting. But lately, manufacturers have also produced already painted specimens, so that buyers are bothered less.

Domestic ones are often labeled by manufacturers as “embossed wallpapers”, and foreign ones as “wallpaper for painting”.

How to choose a paint

Having dealt with the wallpaper, do not forget to choose the right paint for them. Fiberglass is painted with various compositions, but for non-woven use only water-dispersion paint. The main thing is that it dissolves with water, and not with chemical solvents, which can damage the outer layer of wallpaper.

Choose the color of paint as you wish. You can create your own shades by mixing different colors. Just keep in mind that on the wallpaper such a mixture will look different than in the container. Checking the shade is simple - apply the mixture to an unnecessary piece of wallpaper and wait for it to dry. And do not forget that in this case it is better to immediately prepare a sufficient amount of the mixture: if you use up one part, it can be difficult to achieve the same shade when re-cooking.

When choosing a paint, be sure to consider the humidity in the room. Choose options in which the wallpaper will last you a long time.

Proceed to wallpapering the ceiling

If you already know how glue wallpaper on the walls, then wallpapering the ceiling will not cause problems. Wallpaper for painting are fixed in the same way as ordinary ones. First you need to apply glue to the product itself, and then press it to the ceiling, aligning the bends and ironing the entire surface with a roller, in order to avoid the formation of areas with air bubbles. This applies to paper wallpapers. Non-woven - no need to glue separately, instead, the cementitious mixture is applied only to the ceiling.

Step-by-step instruction

• Before gluing the canvas, prepare the ceiling, get rid of the previous finish, if necessary, plaster the surface.

• The first pasted sheet is the most important. Measure the distance from the wall, which will be equal to the width of the canvas, mark with a marker points on one and the opposite side. Draw a line along the entire ceiling using the marking cord.

• Apply glue to the selected area, and if necessary, to a piece of wallpaper measured to the size of the ceiling. Cut them taking into account the addition of 8-10 centimeters, since the canvas should slightly protrude onto the wall.

• Now firmly press the prepared part to the ceiling, smooth the surface roller.

• The next part must be glued in the same way, removing excess glue with a rag.

• When the wallpaper “grabs”, carefully trim the protruding parts with a knife.

For pasting, proceed to painting

Painting the wallpaper on the ceiling requires several conditions. It is necessary to create a temperature regime favorable for the procedure indicated on the paint package. Drafts should not be. If possible, all furniture should be removed or covered with something, protecting it from dripping. The same thing must be done with the walls, if you are not going to do their decoration.

• protective glasses;

• brushes;
• headdress;
• gloves
• ladder;
• paint.

Ways of painting

1. Classical. Treat the entire surface with a roller, except for corners and edges where brushes are best. Determine the direction of light, paint perpendicularly. When the paint dries, apply a second coat, already in the direction of light.
2. Option with non-woven wallpaper. Paint the wallpaper on the side that it will be attached to the ceiling. Or apply paint to the ceiling, but do not touch the canvas. It will turn out a very interesting effect when the paint will shine through from the inside.

Try using a smooth roller that only paints protruding parts. This will well emphasize the structure of the wallpaper.
