Adhesive for photo wallpaper on a non-woven and paper basis

The desire to diversify their interior, without resorting to excessively expensive finishing materials, has led to an increase in the popularity of such wall decorations as wallpaper with a photo image. No less responsible than the selection or manufacture of the coating itself is the choice of such an important component as adhesive for photo wallpaper. To a large extent it depends on how exactly it will look and how long this decoration will last.

What glue is suitable for photo wallpaper

As a rule, buying a ready-made set of photowall-paper, we get instructions for handling this particular type of coating. It also contains information on what glue to stick on the mural and how to properly prepare it. Most manufacturers of wallpaper with a photo image recommend highly specialized glue that is most suitable for "their" type of canvas.

For modern photo wallpaper, two types of glue are used:

• for light wallpaper - paper;
• for heavy canvases - based on non-woven, vinyl, textile, etc.

When choosing an adhesive composition for photo wallpaper, attention should be paid to the degree of its moisture resistance, which can be increased if PVA glue is added to the finished solution (about 10-15%). But using this mixture, you need to be prepared for the fact that during subsequent repairs it will be an order of magnitude more difficult to remove the old coating, since this glue increases the adhesion of wallpaper to the wall.

Important! As practice shows, universal wallpaper glue holds only light paper or vinyl wallpapers moderate severity, for non-woven wallpaper, textile and other heavy fabrics this composition is not suitable.

A component of many types of modern glue are ready-made antiseptic additives that prevent the formation of fungus and mold under wallpaper. These components allow you to use wallpaper with photo printing in rooms with high humidity.

Important! It should be noted that the diluted adhesive solution is uniform after infusion and does not have a pungent odor.

It will not be amiss to recall that dilute and use glue should be strictly according to the instructions, carefully observing the proportions, method of dilution and timing insisting, since such properties of the adhesive composition as stickiness and adhesion and, accordingly, the result of painstaking directly depend on this work.

Note! When working with any wallpaper glue, there is a general rule - the heavier and thicker the wallpaper, the thicker the adhesive solution should be.

Adhesive for non-woven photo wallpaper: features and rules for applying

At non-woven wallpaper strictly special glue should be used, the peculiarity of which is an important nuance: it is not applied not wallpaper, but only on the wall.

High-quality special adhesive for coatings based on non-woven should:

• quickly and evenly get divorced;
• have a long shelf life before cooking and several days in diluted form (in closed containers);
• be safe to use and harmless to health;
• have a coloring pigment (usually pink or blue), which allows you to control the uniformity of application;
• be economical to use.

Such an adhesive solution is prepared simply and quickly: the dry substance is poured with the required amount of water (observing the temperature and proportions) and infused for 5-10 minutes with periodic stirring. Next, a portion of the wall is covered with the finished mixture and a fragment of the photo wallpaper is immediately applied to it, straightened and leveled.

Important! Adhesive non-woven fabrics should be dry.

Adhesive for vinyl wallpaper on a non-woven and paper basis

Vinyl wall murals are polyvinyl chloride film on paper or non-woven backing. The type of adhesive used to fix vinyl coatings depends on the type of substrate.

• For vinyl on a non-woven basis, glue for heavy vinyl wallpapers is suitable, which is mandatory must contain a bactericidal component, since the vinyl film does not allow air circulation, i.e. an environment conducive to the propagation of microorganisms is created. The process of working with glue is the same as in the case of non-woven wallpaper, and the gluing method is similar - an adhesive composition is applied to a wall fragment and a dry cloth is applied.

• Paper-based vinyl wallpaper both on “non-woven” glue with the same properties, only a little more liquid, and on a special one designed for lightweight vinyl paintings. Only it is applied not on the working surface, but on the wallpaper sheet. Despite the paper backing material, it is better not to use a universal composition for gluing paper wallpapers in this case, since it will not withstand the weight of the PVC film.

Composition for gluing paper wallpapers with a photo image

Paper wallpaper, the most “light” wall covering, both literally and at work. For this type of photo wallpaper, special glue is also preferable to universal, and its estimated amount depends on the thickness of the canvas. In this case, the adhesive solution is applied to the paper web, which is then aged for several minutes for impregnation (folded). Then carefully, without stretching, you need to stick it on the wall, level and remove air or a possible excess of adhesive mass.

Tip. Thin cloths should be coated with cold glue, and double-layer or foamed ones should be coated with warm.

Adhesive for textile murals

Textile photo wallpaper is the heaviest kind of wallpaper covering that does not shrink. They need a special high-quality dispersion glue with improved adhesion, moisture-resistant and free of color pigment. Often such an adhesive solution is sold in finished form, i.e. divorced. When working with such a finishing material, the adhesive composition is applied either to the wall or to the canvas.

Composition for sizing wallpaper joints

Badly glued joints and edges of the photo wallpaper can nullify all the design efforts, so using such wallpaper is especially justified by the use of special glue for the joints.
