Gypsum board suspensions are an important element of many drywall constructions. These products are used to securely fix profiles on a bearing surface when leveling walls. GKL and GVL sheets, for laying insulating materials, creating simple and multi-level suspended the ceilings. There are several types of suspensions that differ among themselves and are used in different situations.

Direct suspension

A direct suspension for drywall, having the form of a metal plate made of galvanized steel with perforations and cutouts, is the most common type of product. Despite the small thickness (0.6–0.8 mm), it is quite durable. Reinforced brackets with a thickness of 1 mm and a length of 0.2 m to 0.5 m are also used. They are used for leveling. walls that collapse with a large level difference when laying communications behind false walls or with a large thickness insulation.

Separately, we can mention vibration suspensions, supplemented by an elastic element made of rubber, eliminating the contact of the base and profile, due to which the transmission of structural noise to the frame is significantly reduced. Used when high-quality sound insulation of the structure is required.

Installers often join together short suspensions, and to increase their bearing capacity they are fastened more often. But the cost reduction is not achieved.

Classic straight suspensions
  • GKL suspensions are attached to the wall or ceiling on dowels or screws in 2 or 3 places, after which they bend and take a U-shape. The type of fastener depends on the material of the bearing surface.
  • The profile is mounted on suspensions with small self-tapping screws for metal with a flat wide hat ("bugs"). As a result, a small space forms under the frame, where communications, heat or noise insulation, wiring are laid, sockets, switches and lamps are mounted.

Suspensions allow you to create a gap of up to 12 cm, and products of a shortened type - no more than 7.5 cm.

For walls, the gap depends on the thickness of the insulation panels or sound insulation, which is about 5 cm. They can also be used on the ceiling, but the dimensions of the recessed fixtures must also be taken into account. A reserve of up to 10–12.5 cm is left for them, which is associated not only with their dimensions, but also with the need to remove the heat generated, for example from halogen lamps.

When installing a false ceiling without special fasteners can not do

Mount

Drill holes for fasteners in the wall or ceiling.

Important! For the ceiling, only metal dowels or anchors are suitable, since plastic dowels are pulled under constant load.

  • The brackets are attached to the wall or ceiling, after which the sides are bent at right angles.
  • Then the profiles are installed in the same plane and level.
  • The protruding "ears" are bent to the sides.

At low ceilings, it is advisable to glue the sheets to the ceiling on a special putty or a mixture of gypsum diluted with water with 2% bone glue.

Traction suspension

Sometimes it is necessary to lower the ceiling by up to 0.5 m. There may be several reasons:

  • laying of communications;
  • installation of a ventilation duct;
  • installation of a multi-level ceiling.

In these cases, wire link suspensions are used. It is difficult to do without them when creating structures with several levels. The device is a butterfly-shaped spring into which 2 steel rods with a thickness of 4 mm are inserted.

Simplest adjustable ceiling mount

For installation in the ceiling, drill 1 hole and fix the wire in it to the anchor or metal dowel. To do this, a loop is made at one end of the wire. From below, a profile is hung by the hook for the hook, which should be tightened with pliers.

The step of placing suspensions depends on the load: each accounts for no more than 25 kg. It is easy to calculate the weight of the structure: a standard drywall sheet with a thickness of 9.5 kg with dimensions of 1200 x 2500 mm weighs 22 kg. One standard anchor withstands as much.

Profile height can be adjusted. To do this, click on the butterfly. In the released state, it holds the rods firmly.

Experts consider this design is not reliable enough. Holding the structure with two curved shelves does not create a rigid mount: the springs slip from the action of the load. Re-adjusting the drywall construction is not possible due to lack of access to fixtures. A better option is an anchor suspension with clamp and traction.

Homemade pendants

You can make a homemade suspension from the ceiling guide profile. To do this, take a piece and cut the side faces. Then it folds at an angle of 900, after which the overlap is cut through and a hard corner is obtained, which is called the boot. One part is attached to the ceiling or wall, and the other to the profile.

Another option is to cut and bend it into a U-shape, and then attach the sole to the ceiling, and the ears to the profile. The design allows you to place the frame at a great distance from the ceiling.

Another design is obtained if you cut a part of the back of the ceiling profile along the edges, and then bend the sides and fix them on the ceiling. The lower part is attached to the profile.

How many suspensions do you need?

The number of suspensions depends on their bearing capacity of 25 kg per 1 pc. for ordinary and 40 kg - for reinforced. The distance between the profiles is 60 cm. In this case, the distance from each wall should be 300 mm. The front indentation along the length of the profiles is from 0.7 to 1 m. Here you can already choose the number of suspensions according to the bearing capacity.

Conclusion

Installation of the frame under drywall simplified when using suspensions. The most popular is direct suspension, which is suitable for walls and ceilings. Depending on the complexity of the ceilings, various suspension devices on rods with springs or fixtures made by oneself from the remains of the ceiling profile are used.
