The issue of storage of things is becoming increasingly relevant. A dressing room is a great idea to solve this problem. Garages and balconies are becoming a thing of the past as places of storage of necessary and unnecessary belongings (by the principle - it is not necessary, but it is a pity to throw it away, but what if it is needed someday). Now people do not so value things that are out of use - they are simply thrown away. But ensuring the proper preservation of the necessary wardrobe items (seasonal collections of shoes and clothes) is a conscious choice that everyone adheres to.

What is a dressing room and why is it needed

Wardrobe room (dressing room, lavatory, wardrobe) - a room for storing things, shoes, clothes, and you can equip it in the following ways:

  • arrangement of the built-in niche;
  • the allocation of a separate room (room, pantry, loggia);
  • separation of the area with the help of compartment doors.
Niche Wardrobe

The advantages of a separate room or a dedicated area for wardrobe:

  • Functionality - on an acceptable area, places of savings for seasonal wardrobes are compactly concentrated current collections of clothes and shoes, additional household items - ironing board, iron, steamer.
  • Space saving - multiple wardrobes, wardrobe units, lockers, which occupy a significant area throughout the apartment, are not required.
  • Capacity - the size and location of the racks from floor to ceiling increase the storage area.
  • Saving money - an optimally designed dressing room (the option when its filling is made of mahogany is not taken into account) is cheaper than wardrobes, bureaus and chests of drawers. In addition, if you want to update the design of the room, there is no need to change the overall furniture - cabinet, wardrobe.
  • Saving time - a very necessary thing (if it does not lie in its place) is wanted in a limited area of space, which significantly saves hours and saves nerves.
  • High-quality clothing with the necessary level of ventilation.
  • Free access to objects is provided, but at the same time, isolation from the rest of the living space is maintained, thanks to which things are almost dustless.

Type of dressing room: methods and rules

How to plan a dressing room? If you are lucky - the owner of housing in a new building, then you can allocate a whole room for the wardrobe, and it is desirable to plan its location at the planning stage of the apartment.

But even in a lived-in apartment, you can take a rational approach and allocate a suitable place for storage (dressing room from the pantry) without encroaching on the living space of other residents.

The standard wardrobe locations are an entrance hall or a bedroom.

Corner option

With this method of placement, a free corner in the room is allocated under the dressing room, and it represents a rectangular or triangular zone.

Corner wardrobe

The minimum size of a full wardrobe is three square meters.

The zone can be fenced off with a plasterboard partition or sliding sliding doors. Drywall wall is recommended to be further strengthened so that it can support the weight of modules and storage systems with things. Stylishly designed doors will become an additional decoration of the interior.

One of the advantages of this method is the masking of design flaws.

The disadvantage is that the modest size of the area will make it difficult to place a mirror, ottoman, sports equipment.

Linear way

The most common solution is insulation of a blank wall without windows and doors. The depth of the dressing room is determined individually, but the minimum length of its short side should be 80 cm (the dimensions of the cabinet plus space for easy access are laid in the calculations). If the dressing room is narrow - place the shelves on one side.

Parallel arrangement

An option when in a wide and long corridor there are two wardrobe closets opposite each other. Advantage: the dressing room in the hallway will hide the counters, the alarm panel.

U-shaped option

Such placement would be a good idea for a rectangular and long room. With this decision, you should place the wardrobe on one side of the room, and the berth on the other.

A small dressing room will be used to the maximum with a U-shaped arrangement of cabinets, and in the corners it will be appropriate to place round hangers-stands for jewelry or accessories.

Access to the dressing room can be issued with curtains, sliding doors.

Full wardrobe room from the pantry

A wardrobe from the pantry is an option when the area of the room allows you to equip it with a room for storing things and clothes, or it is quite realistic for these purposes to transfer one of the partitions.

Wardrobe from the pantry

Advantage - no special allocation of a zone in other rooms is required.

The disadvantage is the imposed version of the location of storage places, lack of adequate ventilation.

Wardrobe room zoning

Perhaps this is the most crucial moment when organizing a place to store things. How to make a dressing room from the pantry or place a wardrobe in the hallway, the designer can tell how to flexibly combine standard zoning and filling options with individual requests the hosts. There are general guidelines for organizing storage areas.

The owner of the dressing room forms the zonal space independently, focusing on the standard and taking into account his requirements for the functionality of the room (for example, a special place for storing sports equipment can be allocated in the room).

The traditional approach to placing items by level:

  1. Bottom - shoes.
  2. Medium - casual and festive clothing (folded or hanged) that matches the current season.
  3. Upper - non-seasonal items and wardrobe items.

Filling: rules and tips

How to equip a dressing room? It is possible to equip the dressing room with stationary shelves with drawers or modular systems. Be sure to consider a number of additional items for storage (scrubs, ties, shoes).

  • The modular design system includes multifunctional aluminum profile systems and mesh baskets, equipped with a wide selection of accessories. Elements of the system can stand on the floor, attach to the wall or stay on spacers. The main idea is that the system configuration is easily changed, the necessary elements are added or the extra ones are removed.
  • Stationary furniture - storage systems, most often made of natural wood. The main advantages are attractive appearance and environmental friendliness.

Rational placement of storage places will allow all family members to use the dressing room, to clean up the apartment. When organizing it, use the following tips and tricks:

  • The closet from the pantry should be well ventilated.
  • Doors should provide air exchange (have slots below and above 2 cm wide or a series of holes).
Wardrobe interior
  • Placing silica gel bags in separate sections for moisture absorption will protect against the appearance of a musty, stagnant odor.
  • It is necessary to organize sufficient lighting of the room and mirrors, highlighting deep drawers, high shelves.
  • It is not recommended to use the room to place the wardrobe for other purposes (for example, to dump unnecessary things, buckets, mops).
  • Mandatory availability of mirrors and free space for changing clothes.
Spacious dressing room
  • It is advisable to equip the walk-in closet in the hall with the “warm floor” system - so that the shoes dry faster.
  • If the dressing room provides for the storage of male and female things - you can use the separation of shelves, clothes rods (it is better to immediately divide the room into two parts).
  • Clothing should be easily accessible and visible.
  • Shelves for storage are decorated with fences (so that clothes do not fall out).
  • Access to the upper shelves will require a stepladder or folding ladder.
  • A small dressing room will be visually enlarged with mirrored doors (there will be no need for a separate mirror). In addition, it should be decorated in bright colors.
