Installation of a gas stove: rules and requirements

It will not be an exaggeration to say that in every kitchen, regardless of its fullness with household appliances, the main and central place remains behind the stove. In most cases, housewives prefer gas models, because unlike electric stoves, they heat up faster, more economically and longer in use, and modern versions equipped with gas leakage sensors and an automatic ignition system are also safer. Installing a gas stove is not so much a technically complicated process as it requires increased care and accuracy.

Important! Self-assembly of a gas model of a stove in an apartment of a multi-storey building is possible only if it is replaced. The first start-up of gas in the apartment is required to produce specialists.

The main requirements for independent installation of a gas stove are full compliance with accepted standards and careful observance of safety measures.

Connection Rules

If the replacement of the gas model of the stove in the kitchen is carried out simultaneously with the repair of the room, then it may be necessary to move it to another place. In this case, it is important to observe the following rules for installing the stove:

1. The maximum permissible distance from the device to the gas supply pipe is 4 meters, ideally no more than 2.
2. The room should have high-quality exhaust ventilation.
3. Modern units contain the functions of electric ignition and lighting of the oven, so you need to provide an outlet with grounding nearby. If you choose a model with an electric oven, you will have to draw a separate power line from the switchboard (with the installation of an additional 16 A RCD) using a 3 × 5 cable.

Requirements for the installation of household stoves are prescribed in SNiP 2.04.08-87- "Gas Supply" and SNiP 2.08.01-89 "Residential Buildings".

To connect the stove to the gas pipeline flexible hose (differs from the tap by yellow marks on the braid), the maximum length of which is 5 m, and the inner diameter is more than 10 mm.

Such hoses come in several forms:

• Rubber fabric. Soft and flexible, does not conduct current, but is not rigid enough.

• Rubber with a metal braid, the most common variety before.

• The installation standards of a modern gas stove in the apartment recommend using a bellows hose, which is an expandable metal sleeve in a protective sheath, when connected.

Note! When installing a new plate, it is better to immediately change the connecting hose, regardless of its service life, as it may have defects that are not visible to the eye resulting from operation.

Preparation for work

Before thoroughly understanding how to install a new gas stove, it is necessary to dismantle the old equipment and evaluate the future scope of work. Also "estimate" the list of required tools and materials, which looks something like this:

• gas, adjustable and wrench (22 x 24) keys;
• 1/2 / ball valve (if replacement is necessary);
• FUM tape;
• concentrated soapy water;
• suitable hose;
• screwdriver.

Dismantling the old appliance

Dismantling the gas stove with the subsequent installation of a new one is not particularly difficult, but also requires strict observance of safety measures.

• The first step is to shut off the gas supply valve at the lower end (it is necessary to make sure that this point is fulfilled, i.e. try to light the burner).
• Then the lock nut is unscrewed and the coupling on the lowering to the device is driven.

If the stove is old and was connected to the gas pipeline using a metal pipe, the nut or coupling may not succumb due to the paint applied to them. Then this eyeliner is cut off by a grinder (below the faucet), and the remains are already twisted with a gas key.

• The kitchen appliance moves away from the wall a sufficient distance.
• If repair work is planned, and the new stove will not be installed immediately, for safety reasons, put a stopper in the tap.

Typical Connection Instructions

Ideally, it is better to invite a specialist to install gas and gas-electric stoves, but if you are still determined to make the connection yourself, then the installation instructions will help. Following it in detail and carefully observing the mandatory points, it is quite realistic to cope with this task yourself.

The standard sequence of actions is as follows:

• To free the “object” from packaging materials and all components (baking tray, tray, dividers and etc.), leaving only the protective film that needs to be removed after all repairs have been completed.
• Install the stove in the intended place, keeping the distance from the wall, prescribed in the attached documentation.
• Using the level and adjusting legs, the work surface is horizontally aligned.
• A flexible hose connects to the gas pipeline. For this, the threaded connection is wrapped with a sealant (FUM tape) and tightened with the appropriate key.

• Then the gas hose is likewise connected to the device using a gasket and tightening the lock nut with two open-end wrenches. It often happens that the thread at the exit of the plate has a step of 3/8 ′, then an adapter is installed, which comes complete with the device.

When connecting the hose to the unit, be sure to install a gasket with a diameter of 13 mm, which is sold with the stove. It contains a metal mesh, which is a barrier filter for debris and extends the life of an expensive device.

• The last point is to check both connections for leaks, which are carried out using a soap solution. In this case, a thick foam is copiously applied to the joints (with a brush or hand) and the gas supply valve opens at the lowering point. If bubbles appear at the junction, the valve closes and the defective connection is redone. If the surface remains flat, there is no gas leak, which means that the new stove is installed correctly.
• At the end, the burners and the oven are checked for functionality.

Is self-installation of the stove a violation?

Although replacing one appliance with another (equivalent in number of burners) is not a violation in itself, it is highly recommended that the start of its operation, call a representative of the gas service to verify the installation, make the necessary changes to the documents and registration instrument. If, during a routine check, gas workers find that the owner has installed his unit on his own and did not notify the relevant service, he may face administrative responsibility in the form a fine and even turning off the gas.

Note! In the case of connecting a gas stove with your own hands, the warranty service life of a new device is not counted from this moment, but from the date of purchase. In addition, if the passport of the device does not have marks made by the master after installation or verification of its correctness, the warranty will be considered void.
