If you enter the bathroom, you find “dew drops” on the pipes, so it's time to deal with the condensate. Your bathroom is not a greenhouse, and excess moisture is useless. High humidity is not a harmless thing at all, and the wet floor under the pipes is an unaesthetic sight. Therefore, having noticed condensation on the pipes of cold water, it is necessary to clearly know what to do.

Condensation on a cold water pipe

Causes of condensation on pipes

Most often, several factors immediately affect the appearance of condensate.

Temperature difference

Cold water pipes are subject to condensation. Due to the temperature difference supplied through the pipes of water and air in the room and condensation occurs. This unpleasant phenomenon is especially pronounced in winter, when the temperature difference is especially sharp.

Important! It is necessary to clearly distinguish between condensate and leakage. It is not difficult to distinguish them: condensate droplets are evenly distributed over the entire diameter of the pipe, often over its entire length, while the leakage is local in nature.

The difference between condensate and leakage

Poor ventilation

If the bathroom and toilet do not have forced ventilation, condensed steam with mold can become their inhabitants. If there is an extractor hood, but the humidity in the bathroom is still high, then ventilation does not cope with its task. Check the draft, and if it is weak, contact the management company: its employees must check the general ventilation duct and clean it.

Close location of cold and hot water risers

When the hot and cold water pipes are too close together, condensation will inevitably form. Hiding pipes under the finish contributes to the appearance of moisture and exacerbates the process. Finishing materials deteriorate, the service life of the entire pipeline is reduced. Given that all this is hidden from your eyes, the situation is insidious.

Close pipe arrangement

Faulty faucet or toilet bowl

A constant set of cold water in the toilet bowl due to its malfunction or breakdown of the mixer in the bathroom can also cause condensation on the pipes. In this case, both the faucet and the tank “sweat” along with the pipes.

If the shutoff valves are broken in the tank, the water does not reach the end, but flows through and just does not have time to warm up at least a little. The boundary of the condensate on the tank corresponds to the level of water collected in it. Above the level, the tank is completely dry.

Faulty toilet bowl

The mixer may leak due to wear, malfunction or improper installation.

Neighbor leakage

Sometimes condensate can collect on a cold water pipe only in its upper part. This may indicate that there is a problem with the water supply system or a water leak from the neighbors from above. Here, your participation is only indirect - to inform the neighbors about this and to track the result in your apartment. If you remove the leak, the condensation issue will automatically be closed.

How to get rid of condensate

Depending on the cause of the appearance, the methods for disposing of the condensate also differ.

In the arsenal of tips from the "craftsmen" there is a way to isolate the pipe with cold water by wrapping it with a cloth, followed by strict control over its wetting and timely replacement. Sometimes it is advised to put an additional jar in order to drain moisture from the ends of the rag. We will not even consider a similar method. This is not a measure, but a half measure that spoils the appearance of a bathroom or toilet.

The decision should be serious and thorough, as the owner of the apartment. In most cases, the problem is solved by the use of insulation for pipes and the organization of good ventilation.

Thermal insulation

To minimize the effects of temperature differences in pipes with cold water and room temperature, you need to insulate them. Excellent thermal insulation, high fire safety, ease of installation, tightness and low price of modern heaters will allow you to appreciate this solution.

The pipe needs to be dressed in a special material for insulation - cases made of foamed polyethylene (energy flex). This is a flexible material, the closed pores of which give it excellent thermal insulation properties.

Material for insulation Energoflex

Your actions:

  • dry the pipe;
  • cut along the tube of the energy flex;
  • wrap a pipe with cold water;
  • fasten the longitudinal seam of the insulation with glue or clamps;
  • glue the ends of the energy flex to each other;
  • if desired, the heater can be painted with the spray paint of the desired color.

Important! After applying glue to the tubes of the energy complex, you need to wait 5 minutes and then glue it.

As an option, Izollat, a universal material for pipe insulation, the so-called thermos paint, will help prevent condensation. This is a water-based suspension, which, after drying, turns into a polymer coating with good thermal insulation properties.

Isollat - paint thermos

How to paint with Isollat:

  • clean and degrease the surface of the pipes;
  • apply paint in a single layer with a brush;
  • to give a glossy shine, it is possible to coat the top with silicone varnish type KO 85.

Creating adequate ventilation

High humidity, and with it condensation on the pipes, can be eliminated by establishing good ventilation of the bathroom and toilet.

What to do:

  • periodically leave the door to the bathroom ajar for fresh air to flow;
  • increase the opening at the bottom of the door or make a ventilation grill in it;
  • to put a powerful fan in the opening of forced ventilation;
Powerful fan
  • in case of problems with a common ventilation tower, contact the Housing Office;
  • lay in the project for future repairs the installation of windows with micro-ventilation and the expansion of the ventilation hole.

Repairing a faucet or flush toilet bowl

If condensation also forms on the toilet bowl, the first thing to do is check its serviceability. The constant sound of flowing water indicates that the tank is not fully filled and is constantly updated with cold water, which gives condensate.

What can be done:

  • repair the toilet drain;
  • buy a new double-flush toilet.

A double tank, inside which there is an additional plastic container, will help to completely solve the problem with condensate. Cold water is drawn precisely into it, not in contact with the walls of the tank, so the appearance of condensate is excluded. A big minus - the tank is most often sold complete with a toilet and has a fairly high cost.

In the mixer, the most common elements are the regulation of water - joysticks, taps, valves. A thin stream of water flowing down around the tap can just be the culprit of the appearance of condensate. Replace the gasket or cartridge and the mixer will work again. In extreme cases, you can buy a new mixer. Perhaps this will end the search for the causes of condensation.

Mixer Repair

Do not put off the solution to the condensate problem in a long box. And it’s not only that, having dealt with it, you will render a great service to your health and repair. To ignore a problem with unpleasant consequences, while it is easily and inexpensively solved, is simply unreasonable.
