The sanitary ware shop contains baths that come complete with screens. Not always such protection approaches the interior of your bathroom. It also happens that when you buy and install a finished screen it turns out that it is not functional. In order not to spend extra money for the purchase of a ready screen, which is often made of brittle materials, you can make a screen under the bath with your own hands.

Screen materials for

There is a huge selection of different building materials that are suitable for use in bathrooms. First of all, you should choose materials for the screen, which is not afraid of moisture.

Guided by this, we will highlight such screen variants for the bathroom:

  • made of bricks;
  • of moisture resistant plasterboard;
  • plating of the bath space with moisture-resistant MDF;
  • made of plastic;
  • assembly of the complete set.

In addition to the last option, as well as a plastic screen, the building material allows you to make protection for the bath without finishing. Plastic is considered practical, inexpensive and easy to use. It is not afraid of moisture, it is easy to wash, and if necessary, you can replace it with a new one.

If the task is to install a screen for a bath of more durable materials, in this case, you should choose a different material.

The bath screen must meet the following requirements:

  1. To be removable in order to have access to sewerage and other communications if necessary. It is not necessary that the screen be shot completely. For this purpose, leave a small opening that can be closed with a grill or a door.
  2. There must be an isolated space between the floor and the bathroom. In addition, the floor under the bathroom and in the rest of the room should also be insulated.
  3. The bath should not stand on the screen.

Often before you start installing the screen at home, people are thinking how to make a screen under the bath so that it not only served as an element of decor, but also was functional. You can "sew" the bath tightly or make the screen sliding. In this case, free space is not lost. Inside, you can make shelves to store detergents or install a drawer. For the convenience of operating the bath, in the middle it is advisable to make a small groove with a slope.

Regardless of the material and the type of installation, for each screen it is necessary to install a special frame( with the exception of brickwork).Lattice is made of wooden racks or metal profile.

How to install a screen for a bath

Brick laying

A simple protection option for a bath is a brick screen.

Prepare such tools and materials:

  • brick;
  • sand;
  • cement;
  • water;
  • mixing tank;
  • trowel.

Masonry can be faced with ceramic tiles, with plastic or MDF sheets.

The screen made of bricks is easy enough to make. Prepare cement mortar from sand, cement and water. On the edge of the bath( from the wall to the wall) you need to build a brick wall in half a brick.

When laying, it is necessary to "alter" the brick. This construction term means the following: each new row of brick must move from the previous one to half a brick. In the place where it will be convenient for you to get close to the communications( sewage drainage), you need to form a space. To cover the "window", you can independently make a door made of wood or buy ready and attach it to the canopies.

brick

Despite the strength of the material, do not lean the bath on the brick screen. When laying walls, it is necessary to leave a small space( one or two centimeters) between the wall and the bathroom. The air cushion must be filled with a mounting foam.

After the brick screen is ready, you can tile the masonry, apply a layer of decorative plaster, or use another building material that will fit your bathroom's style.

Screen from gypsum cardboard

You can make a bath screen with your own hands from gypsum board. Work on the installation of the screen begins with the construction of the frame.

To make it, prepare the following materials:

  • wooden beam( size 40 x 40 centimeters) or metal profile;
  • screws;
  • metal corners;

Place the wooden slats in the corner of the tub and fix it to the wall with screws. Perform the markup.

Prepare wooden slats before mounting the frame. For vertical racks, four bars of the same length are needed, for horizontal racks, two short bars. Assemble and install the wooden frame. Fix the construction to the wall with screws.

After the frame is ready, the turn of installation of panels from gypsum cardboard has come. When choosing a material, give preference to moisture resistant gypsum plasterboard. It has a green color. Also purchase hinges to attach the window door and the latch( preferably metal).

Screen mounting:

  1. Perform markings on the drywall sheet.
  2. Cut out with a sharp construction knife of the workpiece.
  3. Mark the place for the inspection window( the dimensions of the hatch can be different, refer to the width and length of your tiles).To make the hole look neat, use a jigsaw. Hang the door on the hinges and attach the latch.
  4. Connect both panels of the future screen( clearly at right angles) with self-tapping screws.

Now it is possible to prime the plasterboard with the primer mix and tile the surface with ceramic tiles. At the discretion, you can make decorative plaster, cover the screen with wallpaper or film.

This will look like a screen of plasterboard:

finished gypsum

In addition to this option, you can make a screen for a bath of gypsum board with a lip for the feet. In this case, use the bathroom will be much more convenient. To do this, you need to install the profile on the floor, but not at a right angle, but in the form of the letter "P" and make a groove in the middle for fifteen centimeters. When installing the carcass racks, mount them at an angle.

Bath screen from MDF

Mounting of MDF boards practically does not differ from the installation of drywall. The only difference is that the plates should be impregnated with a special solution with protection from moisture. Then it is necessary to treat the surface with a primer mix on both sides and allow it to dry thoroughly. Only after this, the plates can be installed on the frame.

To protect MDF plates from moisture, in addition to the window for technological needs, it is necessary to make an additional vent. You can make one or two windows( two or three centimeters wide, five to ten centimeters long) on the opposite side of the technological window. That they were not too noticeable, they can be covered with a decorative plastic grid.

Screen from plastic panels

Plastic is considered an inexpensive and practical material. It is resistant to wear, it is easy to use and it is not afraid of dampness.

To install a plastic screen you need to purchase the following materials:

  • plastic strip;
  • corner;
  • screwdriver;
  • dowels or screw nails;
  • metal profile;
  • glue or "liquid nails".

First you need to install a metal frame. The peculiarity of fastening plastic lining is that it can not be installed on self-tapping screws, because it is possible to disturb the aesthetic appearance of the bathroom. Therefore, along the edge of the bath you need to fix the wooden beam and already fasten the panels to it.

In order to make the structure stronger, the metal profile needs to be fixed not only along the perimeter of the bath, but also in the middle. It is especially important to comply with this rule if you have purchased cheap plastic. Because even from the slightest load, he can lose form.

In addition, the lower profile of the frame must be glued to the floor with "liquid nails" or sealant.

To start the installation of plastic panels, you need to measure the distance and cut the strips of the desired length. Do it best with a special knife for drywall.

The work plan is as follows:

  1. Install the first strip of plastic from the edge of the wall.
  2. Then take the second lane( starting) and install next to the first one.
  3. Take the glue and glue the inner part of the second strip."Plant" the panel inwards. This is quite easy if you use a metal ruler. Gently press the bar and insert the ruler. The next strip should be inserted into the gap and carefully cleaned of the ruler.
  4. Similarly, set all the bands.
  5. From below, they should be fixed to the metal profile with screws.

As a result, you will get a flat surface, which does not need to be sheathed or covered with moisture-resistant wallpaper. If there is a need, then such a screen is simply disassembled and access to all communications under the bathroom.
