As a starting material for the construction of the fireplace it was decided to use - the boards that remained after the dismantling of the old cabinet. The second alternative to chipboard boards were drywall sheets, but I decided to abandon this idea, becausethen I would have to build a frame of metal, but due to lack of skills in working with metal, I decided to do without it.

Falsh_kamin-17 By the way, on the portal StroyDay.ru there is already a step-by-step guide on how to make a beautiful false fireplace using a metal profile. In addition, the same article describes the fireplace decor options, so read very interesting material!

In the next photo you can see the cabinet that was dismantled and taken to the garage where my husband made the sawing of the boards for the constituent elements of the structure.

You can draw elements from which the future fireplace will be made with the help of an electric jigsaw, but note that all elements should be clearly marked with a pencil and ruler( you do not need to rely on the eye).By the way, if you find it hard to plank the boards yourself, then you can order the elements in the furniture factory by providing dimensions. If you bring your boards, it will come out cheaper, about 200 rubles per 1 item.

Collecting the frame of the fireplace

After all the components are ready, the most intriguing part of the work comes. The intrigue is that if miscalculations were made at the previous step, then at the collection stage - the construction will not be assembled into a single component and some elements will have to be re-cut.

Assembling the rear wall of the

The back wall in my case consists of 2 elements, so it turned out that the part 95 cm wide and 115 cm high did not manage to cut out a single component. But this is not a problem, becauseyou can fasten 2 boards with a bar, and the joints between the boards are puttyped with decorative plaster, which remained in our house after repair.

Sequence of work:

  1. Files for fixing the back walls to them;
  2. Fasten the rear walls with self-tapping screws;

We attach the side ribs to the rear wall

With the back wall we figured out, pay attention to the previous photo I deliberately left a few centimeters on the sides in order to attach the side ribs to the rear wall "to the back."The sequence of the operation is also quite simple:

  1. Fasten the lateral edges to the bars using self-tapping screws.
  2. Screw to the side ribs additional bars for fixing the front wall and lid.

Assembling the front( front) side of the fireplace

The front side consists of 4 parts, among them:

  • Front upper beam;
  • Two sides;
  • Lower beam;

The width of the furnace opening is 35 cm in width and 40 cm in height. I draw your attention to the fact that later I regretted the small dimensions of the opening in the fireplace, so I suggest you increase the furnace opening to 40 by 40 cm or 40 by 50 cm. This will betray a more aesthetic appearance to your fireplace.

Please note, in order to secure our hole with the "firebox" we will have to fix 4 bars to the back cover, and to fix the internal walls to them.

Go ahead. The front side is almost ready, the next step is fixing the front side to the side wall.

Attaching the top cover to the frame of the fireplace

Well, the frame is almost ready with the exception of some parts. What is missing?correctly! There is not enough top cover. That's it and you need to attach. Dimensions of the top cover differ from the size of the fireplace, tk.it should be 5-10 cm from all sides. Its size is 100 cm in width and 25 cm in height. Next, consider an example of its attachment to the frame in the photo below.

The frame of our decorative fireplace is assembled. The next stage is its decorative design. In fact, the decorative design of the fireplace - this is the topic of a separate article in which you need to describe all the moments, but for your convenience I will try in this material to reflect all the main points for decorating the fireplace.

Decorating a decorative fireplace with your own hands

When the fireplace is ready for the time of creativity, everyone here can try himself as a designer. I liked the designer's role very much, I decided to decorate the fireplace with the help of decorative stucco, which I decided to paint myself.

So, here is the list of steps that I want to make my fireplace look like on the picture:

  1. Plastering of the fireplace in the places of board joints and in the places of screwing in the screws.
  2. Painting fireplace with white water-based paint.
  3. Glue stucco to the fireplace.
  4. Decorating "firebox" with mirrors and LED strip.

When the fireplace is plastered, it's time to wait. Plaster should be given time - 2-3 hours in order to dry, and then we need to use a shallow nazhdachki zashkyrit fireplace.

Painting fireplace with water-based paint

Painting fireplace with water-based paint

After painting the fireplace, you need to give the fireplace 10-12 hours in order to make it dry. At this time, you can do the decorating of stucco.

Painting fireplace with water-based paint

For painting the fireplace I recommend using water-based paint, becauseit is this kind of paint has such qualities as: cheapness, no smell. It is the second argument that is decisive in this in choosing the type of paint, becauseif you do repairs in an apartment in the cold season, then leave the fireplace to dry on the balcony will not work, and the smell of paint in the apartment can make you dizzy.

Please note that it will be necessary to paint the fireplace with water-based paint on two layers. This is done in order to completely paint all the elements.

Decor of the fireplace

As I mentioned above, as decor elements, I decided to choose stucco molding from gypsum. It is sold in construction stores and has long earned the respect of people of creative professions. At once I would like to note that if your main task is to make an economical version of a decorative fireplace, then foam polystyrene decor elements will be a good alternative to stucco molding.

I did not use them.it seemed to me that the stucco looks somewhat more expressive when painting. In addition, if the foam is stained with ordinary paint, then it is likely that it will dissolve under the influence of chemistry.

The following material that I used to decorate the fireplace is a ceiling skirting board( not of polystyrene), but made of the same material as the stucco( most likely it is a solid mounting foam).Plinth will be useful for decorating the fireplace of our fireplace in the photo below will be shown a sample of the design of the furnace.

In addition, decorative brick was used to decorate the furnace, the cost of decorative brick( decorative stone) is about 600 rubles per box, but it remained after the decoration of the wall with a decorative stone( my husband wrote about this technology).

The process of finishing the fireplace fireplace with decorative stone:

  1. On the outside, carefully apply the glue( in my case Bergauf) to the outside of the decorative stone;
  2. Apply decorative stone to the side wall of the fireplace;
  3. Fix the decorative stone with the touch of a hand and wait 10-20 seconds until the glue "grabs"
  4. . By the same technology we cover the second wall of the furnace and the bottom.

I continue to finish the fireplace. The next material that I will use is the LED strip. LED strip can be purchased in almost any electrical shop. I decided to use a red LED ribbon, becauseit is the red color that underscores the unforgettable atmosphere of warmth and cosiness that resembles the burning of firewood.

I will fasten the LED tape to the corners of the furnace. Before fixing the LED strip into the fireplace, it is, of course, necessary to assemble it in the following order: a socket, a cable, a transformer, an LED strip.

Observe the polarity when connecting the LED strip.
