Wooden blinds with their own hands

If you want to get a unique thing that fits perfectly into a particular interior, you can make blinds yourself from wooden plates. It is easier to collect horizontal blinds that rise upwards.

For work you will need:

• wooden slats 3-4 mm thick and 40-120 mm wide;
• thin cord or strong thread;
• self-tapping screws, electric drill and drill bit up to 2 mm in diameter;
• stain and wood varnish.

In order to produce wooden blinds with your own hands, you first need to make precise measurements of window openings in order to calculate the required number of wooden plates.

It should be recalled that you can fix the blinds over the window or directly in the window itself. In the first case, you need to drill holes in the walls and carry out a fairly complex installation of fasteners - and you should also take into account that this method of placing blinds visually hides the volume of the room.

Approximately open lamellas overlap each other by 1 cm. Thus, to calculate the number of plates, it is necessary to divide the planned length of the blinds by a distance equal to the width of one lamella less 1 cm.

The length of the louver plates is calculated by dashing away from the width of the window opening 4 cm(2 cm on both sides).

The following sequence of steps is proposed for the manufacture of wooden blinds:

1. If the plates are made at home by hand, they need to be sanded, and if desired, treated with stain and varnish. The stain will emphasize the wood pattern and tint it to the desired shade, the varnish will create a protective layer on the surface of the wood.
2. After waiting for complete drying of the lamella surface, drill three holes under the fastening threads in each plate( two sides of each strip in the center - a few centimeters from the edge, and an opening in the center of the strip closer to the edge of the lamella).
3. In the lateral holes of the strip we pass a strong thread( thin cord) 20-30 cm longer than the planned height of the blinds.
4. Through the central opening of the strip we pass a thread with a length twice that of the window.
5. Securely fasten the lower bar at the ends of the threads.
6. At a distance of about 4 cm, we tie knots on filaments( larger than the hole diameter in the lamellae).Next, we hang the next bar, again tie the knots and attach the lamellas consistently from top to bottom.
7. The finished blinds are fixed to the top of the window frame with the help of side strings.
8. The upper end of the center thread is thrown through the fastening of the structure downwards and tied with a loop( or attach a decorative weight).With this cord, the degree of opening of the blinds will be adjusted.

Maintenance of wooden blinds

For the care of the wooden parts of the blinds, it is enough to wipe the dust with a dry or slightly moistened cloth cloth( or brush), it is allowed to treat the surface of the lamellas with a vacuum cleaner.

For most products, wet cleaning, the use of detergents, cleaning agents, solvents, aerosols are not recommended - their substances can destroy the outer layer of wood, cause cracks and surface defects.

Wooden blinds reliably protect from the sun, do not interfere with the flow of fresh air, and also create coziness and coolness in the room.
