There is nothing more familiar to us than bookshelves .And indeed - what new can you think of in such a simple and uncomplicated subject of furniture? However, many designers from different corners of the world prove to us again and again that even ordinary bookshelves can become not only a remarkable and unique design element, but even turn into a genuine work of contemporary art.

"Book Man 2"

An example of this can be an installation on the topic of book pages, created by the British artist Kazmierz Szmauz( Kazmierz Szmauz). Not being the author of interiors, he treated his work exactly as an artist, because it is very difficult to say what more in his design: pure art or household functionality.

Bookshelves "Infinity"

These wooden made shelves in the form of a sign of infinity, created by the Dutch conceptualist Koelewijn( Koelewijn).Inspired by the idea that any knowledge has no limit, the author went even further by placing part of the bookshelves so that it became practically impossible to use them. Perhaps this is a hint - not all knowledge can be obtained without difficulty?

"Library Zellig"

Zellig is a traditional element of ornament used in geometric mosaics of Morocco. It was he who served as the basis for polyvinyl chloride unusual book shelves created by Unes Duret( Younes Dure). However, despite the strong national accent, these shelves will successfully fit into any both Eastern and European interior.

Shelves "Polar Bear"

These shelves represent only one part of the multi-figure book cabinet developed by the French design firm "iBride".The name of the customer of this work remains unknown. The very shelves, made in the form of a huge polar bear, were shown only once during 3 days in the "Artistic Dandy" gallery in Paris.

Unusual "Book Staircase"

And here you see a ladder in a traditional English two-story house for two rooms and a kitchen that was designed by the British company Levitate Architects at the request of the customer, who could not simply place his rather large library in any other way.

"The Tree of Knowledge"

Developing bookshelves for the children's room, the Italian designer Matteo Kazaroza decided to show the development of the child through reading, which he, frankly, quite succeeded.

"Deadly Coil"

Creation, named by him "Death coil", the London artist Ron Arad created using one single strip of steel. At a recent auction, these original bookshelves were bought for 77,000 pounds by the Victoria and Albert Museum, where they are still located.

Bookshelf "Pyramid"

Aluminum bookshelves in the shape of a pyramid are based on the work of Ampelio Piarotto, in particular his concept of modular furniture, developed in the 60s for the company "The Fitting Project".

Original "Book hangers"

In the development of this concept, the design firm "Ünal &Böler Studio aimed to create the bookshelf, which, due to the minimal amount of materials used in its creation, will, first, be easier than the books it holds, and second, it will not take up much space.

Book "Cave"

The cave is a bookcase created by the Japanese designer Sekura Adachi( materials: wood and polypropylene). And the idea, as you can see, is quite utilitarian - you get not only a bookcase, but also a great place to read.
