Before proceeding to the instructions with photos and video examples, I immediately wanted to draw your attention to the fact that we will not consider options with the installation of spotlights and halogen lamps. This is due to the fact that you can make the lighting in the closet with your own hands faster and without damaging the shelves, if you stick the LED ribbon in the right places. This type of installation will be more reasonable and safe. Next, we will look at the step-by-step instruction with photos and video examples that will show you how to mount the LED lighting of shelves in a storage, kitchen and even a bookcase!

Step 1 - Preparing for installation
So, before you start creating the LED cabinet light yourself, you need to think over several important points:
- Where the diodeswill be most effective for lighting shelves, and at the same time will not create inconvenience?
- How will the lights turn on / off and where will the light switch be placed?
- How will the LED backlight be connected to a 220 Volt home network?
We recommend placing the LED strip above the shelves, as shown in the photo below. With this arrangement, the diodes are least susceptible to mechanical damage and, in addition, the illuminated area will be well covered by the illumination.
With regard to the light switch, it can be placed neatly under one of the shelves or brought to the outer side wall of the cabinet. Also, you can make automatic illumination of the compartment cabinet - so that the LED strip is turned on when the door is opened. There are ready-made sets of lamps, equipped with special motion sensors, which react only to the opening of the door. In our example, we will consider another alternative option - the installation of limit switches that will turn off the lighting in the compartment compartment when the door is completely closed.
Well, the last question is the connection option. Since the LED strip works from 12 volts, it needs to be connected to the power supply. The latter, in turn, is included in the outlet, but you can also output a separate cable for lighting shelves in the locker. In this case, it is recommended to conduct an open wiring on the ceiling and the wall to the installation location of the cabinet. Having solved all the preparatory questions, you can sketch the lighting scheme, buy all the necessary materials and proceed to create LED lighting.
Step 2 - The basic process
To make it clearer to you how to make the lighting in the closet, we provide step-by-step instruction with photo examples of each stage of editing:
- Measure the necessary length of the tape and cut a suitable piece. Do not forget that you can cut the LED strip only in specially designated places, as shown in the picture below.
- At the installation location of the LEDs, secure the plastic bracket 10 * 10 mm. With its help, you can make a hidden backlight so that the tape does not spoil the overall appearance of the shelves.
- To hold the cable in the compartment compartment, make a hole in the most inconspicuous and convenient place with a special crown. The important point is that the sheet of particleboard does not vomit, and the contours of the hole are even, first drill a hole with a depth of no more than 5 millimeters, then drill the input from the back side.
- If you decide to backlight all the shelves inside the cabinet, be sure to drill small holes in the corner, as shown in the photo below. This is necessary so that you can hold the cable to the very top.
- Pull out the wire and hide it in special cable ducts, which are best attached to liquid nails.
- Pour the diode tape over the corner and connect it to the power supply. About how to connect the LED tape to the network, we have already told.
- Independently install the limit switches in the appropriate places, connect them to the backlight and check if the lighting you create is working.
That's the whole installation manual. As you can see, to make the lighting of the shelves inside the cabinet of the compartment with your own hands is not at all difficult and besides the diode band in this case will be the best version of the lamp.
