What is a LM winch?

On the drum, when winding, a certain amount of rope or cable of a certain thickness( rope capacity), calculated for the work load of the winch( pulling force), can fit.

Like all winches, it is not designed to lift people. Only the movement and movement of a variety of goods in the course of performing all sorts of works on installation and installation.
Another representative of winches, which occupies an intermediate position between five-ton and two-ton, is LM-3,2.It can raise three and two tenths of tons of cargo. Like the whole family of such winches, it has a horizontal position of the drum with installation on the foundation or a special frame. All variants are equipped with powerful electric motors, drums with a rope capacity of up to 250 meters and have a speed of receiving a rope on the drum at about a third of a meter per second.
The design of modern winches can not do without a brake system that ensures the safe operation of machinery. Brakes of the TKG type used on all winches stop and reliably hold the drums in a stationary state with engine shutdown.

As already mentioned, the winch can be designed for work on moving loads in the horizontal direction. Often, in such work, there is a need for maneuvering and pulling up railway wagons and railway freight cars with high payloads( from sixty-three tons and over one hundred and twenty tons).
It is clear that even for the rolling of such loads, winches with increased traction force, such as LM-140 or, previously mentioned, LM-71 , will be required. Management of such mechanisms can be both remote and local. For the shunting movement, reverse rotation of the electric motors must be ensured when the drum is free to move.
This is decided by the use of a special worm gearbox, combined with an electric motor, providing for the disconnection of the drum. The design variant includes a free wheeling of a drum by camming switching-off at a reverser of the electromotor.
Like the electric winch LM-2 , the shunting winches can also be used as lifting mechanisms, if necessary, to ensure high reliability of the work performed. At small dimensions, the thickness of the ropes of the device is about 25 millimeters, their total length on the drum will be one hundred or two hundred meters. In conclusion, it should be noted that all winches are powered by an industrial three-phase 380 V power supply.
For small-scale use, for example in building or repairing a house, LM winches can be used. Especially when the work is done at altitude, and there is no desire to balance with a heavy load on the stairs or self-made cradle. For the horizontal movement of goods, of course, the apparatus does not make sense to use, because they require railroad tracks, which are difficult to deploy even on a fairly spacious site, and what to say about several hundred square meters.
