It all starts with the
layout. Before work, you need to make a layout of the workbench with the locations of all the necessary elements on it. The first thing you need to think about is the placement of the vice. If you are right-handed, then they are installed on the left, if left-handed, then from the opposite side. In addition, it is planned to place several wedges, which will help in the processing of blanks.
If you often use a jigsaw in your work, you can think over the placement of the sawing board. It should protrude beyond the edge of the bench for 20 centimeters, which will allow you to comfortably cut the plywood. For such a table is used a board with a length of 250 millimeters and a width of 120 millimeters. One of the faces cuts a wedge-shaped cutout. At its widest point, its distance should be 50 millimeters. A hole with a diameter of one centimeter is made in the corner of the cutout. The board is fixed with screws or is made removable, at the same time it is connected with a clamp.

Conversion of the table to a workbench
If you have come to the conclusion that without a workbench you can not do, you need to decide what to do with it. For this, you can use lumber and make it "from scratch", but you can take as a basis some table or part of it and make a modernization. The last option is very convenient, but you need to understand that not all tables can easily be converted to a normal workplace. For example, a kitchen table is very quickly unstable and needs numerous alterations.

The best option is a table with thumbs. If the table top is not very strong, it can be replaced with a more reliable one. For this it is necessary to use planed bars with a cross section of 30x60 millimeters and a length of one and a half meters. For the countertop will need about 30 bars. All the bars are sanded and glued together in a shield.
After the glue has dried, the board is again cleaned and secured with cross bars for reliability. Next, the table top is placed on the base of the table and fastened with corners. Naturally, this is not yet a workbench, but only its preparation. Further, at the discretion, additional boxes for tools are made, a place is being prepared for fixing the vice and a stop bar is installed for planing the wooden workpieces.
Bench workbench with your own hands "from scratch"
If there are no tables that can be used as a basis, the workbench can be done "from scratch".The height of a person is on average 180 centimeters, so the height bench should be about 95 centimeters. However, in terms of the height of the table, it is better to focus on your growth. The basis of the table top is made as follows:
- As a material for the legs we use bars measuring 10x10 centimeters;
- They are joined together by cross-members in two tiers;
- The first tier is made at a height of ten centimeters above the floor;
- The second level is fixed on the level of the tops of the legs.
The worktop can be done in the same way as described above. In addition, you can build drawers. To do this, under the upper cross bars are mounted runners are the same as used in computer desks for sliding boards. In these boxes you can store nails, drills, screws and so on. For greater stability of the structure it must be strengthened by transverse slopes.
