Sticker for ceiling slabs of foam and expanded polystyrene

Ceiling plates are an inexpensive, simple and attractive way to repair the ceiling.

Due to the variety of shapes and patterns, it is possible to choose this type of decoration for any room in the room.

Most often, ceiling panels are made of foam or polystyrene or mineral fiber.

In the article you will find out what these materials represent, their advantages and disadvantages, and also you will understand how to glue boards in such a way that in the end the repair looked no worse than the one executed by a professional.

Features of the

coating Mineral fiber boards are more rigid than polystyrene or styrofoam products.

They are made of gypsum, stone wool and latex: all elements are connected together, and as a result they get a solid and durable construction, which is perfect for finishing the ceiling.

Tiles made of expanded polystyrene

Mineral fiber coating has high ecological properties: it is completely safe for humans, does not emit any harmful substances and does not react chemically with other elements of the ceiling finish.

Mineral fiber based materials are not flammable, and they also have high soundproof characteristics.

The material can be square or rectangular in shape and has a size of 60x60 or 120x60 cm.

Thickness of mineral fiber plates is not less than 10 mm, the maximum can reach up to 25 mm. Plates of mineral fiber can be painted, which gives additional possibilities for finishing.

You can find a cover with an already finished pattern, and the surface of the material can be either smooth or rough.

This material is resistant to moisture, which allows it to be used not only in living rooms, but also in the bathroom and in the toilet.

Adhesive slabs of mineral fiber are simple - even an amateur can easily cope with this. All these properties make the coating very popular and popular among consumers.

What mineral fiber plates look like, you can see in the photo.

Mineral Fiber Boards

More economical option - to use the ceiling plates from expanded polystyrene for finishing the ceiling of premises.

Most often they are called simply plastic, and for today it is one of the most popular materials for inexpensive finishing.

Similar ceiling tiles, as well as mineral fiber products, have a wide choice of texture and color of the coating.

Most often you can find products with a single-toned embossing, or woodwork.

According to their qualitative characteristics, the plates do not differ from the mineral fiber product, but they are much more brittle.

Other properties are identical: they are resistant to fire and moisture, do not conduct sound, are easy to care for and environmentally safe.

With proper installation and no physical impact, these ceiling slabs will last at least 15 years without changing their appearance.

The most important thing is to be neat when cleaning the cover, becauseit is fragile and dents or other deformations will remain on it too much.

In addition, these coatings are not resistant to heat - because of this, the plates will crack down and become unusable, so you need to install closed lighting fixtures, the built-in fixtures to this coating will not work.

Foam ceiling boards are another popular type of product.

They do not differ in properties and characteristics from polystyrene and mineral fiber products, but they are inferior in strength to fiber products.

They have a rich choice of shapes: you can find tiles in the form of a diamond and a hexagon, but for the finishing of living rooms most often use a square or rectangular material.

Advantage of foam plates is that in some products there are no seams between the plates, which makes it possible to create a completely flat ceiling.

The seams between the joints of the cloths are masked by the edge of the tile, which has a special shape, and it will be much easier to seal up the differences.

Most often, foam plates are white, plain, or with a convex pattern. They are very soft and light, so suitable for any ceiling construction.

Whichever version of tile you choose, the way it is laid will be almost the same. On how to properly glue the tile on the ceiling, read below.

Stages of work on gluing tiles

Before buying a tile, you need to find out how much material you need to glue this or that room.

To do this, you need to measure the length and width of the room, and then multiply those numbers.

Thus, you will know the area of the ceiling, but remember that you need to buy a tile with a margin of at least 10-15% higher than the ceiling.

Controlling the number of tiles is important, because otherwise you will not have enough material and will have to go back to the store for a new batch.

It is also better to buy glue on which you will glue the tile.

Depending on the type of tile, choose the right material: for foam plastic products, quick-setting glue is best suited, and for heavier ones, use liquid nails.

Regardless of which material you have chosen for gluing the ceiling of the room, it must first be prepared to work so that the ceiling boards lie flat and do not move away from the surface.

If the ceiling already has a coating, then it must be removed. If the ceiling is whitewashed, it is better to wash whitewash, so that the concrete overlap becomes visible.

To get to the concrete floor, use a soapy solution, a brush and a spatula, with which you can clean the whitewash before overlapping.

After you have cleaned the ceilings from the whitewash, leave the ceiling to dry.

To make this happen faster, you can leave a draft in the room if it's warm outside, or turn on the heater if it's cold.

If there is oil paint on the ceiling, it must first be soaked with a soap solution - it will degrease the surface, and then remove the swollen parts of the paint with a spatula.

At the same stage, it is necessary to check the state of the overlap and, if necessary, repair irregularities and deformations.

After the floors are ready and dry, you need to make the markings on the ceiling in accordance with the pasting method that you have chosen.

You can glue the material diagonally, or horizontally. In any case, you need to determine the center of the ceiling. To do this, mark the middle of the walls and connect them with intersecting lines.

Where all of them converge, and there will be a center of the room. Such a marking is necessary if you will glue the slabs in the classical way, or place them in rows or offset.

How to look different options for gluing the plates, you can see in the photo.

Now you can go to the most important stage: start gluing the slabs on the floor.

Depending on which type of gluing you choose, you need to place the first 4 tiles on the ceiling in accordance with it.

At the edges and in the center, apply a thin layer of glue, and then press the tile to the ceiling in the selected place.

In this case, it is necessary to monitor the condition of the coating so that it is fixed exactly, and there is no glue on it.

After fixing, the tile should be pressed against the surface for 15 seconds. After check: if the tile keeps well and does not move around the edges, then you can continue to work.

Excess glue should be removed with a spatula. If you decide to use glue-putty for gluing, then immediately after fixing the tile, you can seal the seams between the parts.

The greatest control in the work is needed where the ceiling connects to the walls: most likely, you can not paste the entire coating, and the tile will have to be cut.

The best way to estimate in advance, the detail of what size you need to not be distracted by the control in the future. Cut slabs with an ordinary sharp knife in accordance with the desired size.

It is not difficult to glue the tiles correctly - most often on the cover do arrows on the back side, which should be guided during the pasting of the ceiling.

After completion of work, all seams and crevices between parts must be sealed with acrylic sealant.

At the same time, the seams should become as inconspicuous as possible, and the ceiling should look like a solid cloth. To seal the seams between the plates is not difficult, the main thing is not to overdo it with the sealant.

Surplus can be removed with a dry cloth.

Now it is left to wait, when the ceiling dries, and repair can be considered finished. Some types of coating can be additionally coated with paint, if the material allows it.
