Sand for laying bricks - what is its role?

What is the main applicant for the brickwork?

River sand rises from the bottom and does not contain clay particles, which allows it to be used for various concrete works. It is allowed to use such material as a component in the preparation of mortar for laying brick and plaster.

The sand extracted from the bottom of the river can be of three fractions: large, medium and shallow. In addition to being used as sand for masonry mortar, this material can be used as a filler for concrete production, for the preparation of asphalt mixtures and for the production of bricks, as well as for laying roads. It is very effective in the installation of drainage and as a filler for dyes and grouts.

Sand for masonry mortar - a feature of the

preparation. In conventional masonry, only the forces of compression and displacement act on the mortar, with no effort at breaking. This indicates that the most simple cement-sand mortar with a very low cement content can be used for masonry. Builders call it "skinny."The sand consumption per cube of solution is 3/4 of its part.

Typically, the geometric proportions of the brick are far from ideal, and grout-filled seams are used to compensate for these irregularities. To ensure a greater amplitude of leveling, the sand must be sieved before preparing the mixture. Otherwise, large fractions will prevent alignment of the rows.

Mortar solution is prepared by mixing three components: cement, water and sand. As mentioned above, the sand must first be well sieved. The amount of cement contained in the solution depends on its plasticity, which is directly related to the convenience of laying.

To reduce the cement content in order to increase ductility, it is possible only to a certain extent, as this will inevitably affect the strength of the bricks connection. Plasticity can be increased by adding special plasticizers to the solution, but their price is quite high.

You can achieve the desired result by adding a little ordinary washing powder to the mixture.

Sand consumption per solution cube - an important parameter for the quality of the

masonry It should be borne in mind that for each type of brick the plasticity is selected individually. So, if the masonry is made of hollow bricks, there is a danger that the excessively mobile mortar will easily penetrate into the cavities of the brick, and its consumption will be unreasonably large.

However, working with a solution of low mobility is less convenient and takes much longer. Therefore, knowing how how much sand in the solution's cube should be to provide the required strength, it is possible to achieve the desired mobility by adding plasticizer or detergent.

Also, knowing which sand for the brick laying is the best way, and how much it needs for one cube of solution, you can proceed to the preparation of the mixture for masonry. Usually it is prepared by the method of dry mixing of sand and cement, and as consumption is added water.

Already after a couple of hours after preparation, the solution becomes unsuitable for work, so it should be cooked in certain portions. Proceeding from the fact that the time of laying one brick does not exceed 2 minutes, it is possible to calculate a batch of one batch sufficiently accurately.
