Adhesive PVA: technical data

Adhesive PVA has the appearance of a thick, creamy mixture with some smell of vinyl alcohol. In fact, it is a dispersion of PVAD( polyvinyl acetate in water), plasticizers and all kinds of additives. With confidence, we can say that the PVA glue, the composition of which has such ingredients, is not toxic and completely harmless to the skin. And all additives are ecologically safe. Of the main characteristics are:

  • Excellent adhesion( from 400 to 550 N / m).
  • Full fire and explosion safety.
  • Waterproof and moisture resistant.
  • Non-toxic and can be used even on playgrounds.
  • Dry with minimal shrinkage and fills all lumens.
  • Forms a thin transparent film and is very durable.
  • Solubility in many solvents, therefore the scope of its application is expanding.
  • Low cost and, as a result, availability for many consumers.

In addition, it is worth saying that it is also used as an auxiliary for priming and putty. Glue PVA, the use of which is intended for priming, perfectly fastens the surface and increases its adhesion.

Types of PVA glue

As already mentioned, this mixture can be used to connect almost any surface. It is used as schoolchildren in clerical work, and builders for gluing wallpaper, priming, joining parts, etc. Let us consider each species of this composition in more detail.

  • Household glue PVA( or wallpaper) is used in those cases when the wallpaper is glued on a paper, vinyl basis. It is used for wooden, concrete plaster bases.
  • PVA super glue( M) is acceptable in much larger spheres than household. With its help, not only all kinds of wallpaper are applied, but also facing tiles, linoleum. Also they are glued together with fabric, leather, porcelain, DVM, particle board, MDF.
  • Adhesive PVA universal is used in those cases where it is necessary to connect combined surfaces. Suitable for leather, paper, cardboard, metal, glass, wood, carpet, linoleum, serpentine, facing tiles.
  • PVA construction adhesive includes various types of mixtures used in construction. For example, joinery is used for wooden bases and furniture. There is also a parquet glue, designed specifically for parquet. Particularly popular is the dispersion PVA( base for PVA), which is added to various construction mixtures.
  • Adhesive PVA clerical - for clerical work when connecting paper, cardboard, photo paper. It is often bought by schoolchildren.

How to use

Before applying, it is important to thoroughly clean the surface. For this, dirt and dust are removed from it. The substrate must be dry and clean( humidity not more than 4%).If the mixture is supposed to be applied to smooth walls, they should be sanded( for better adhesion). If, on the contrary, there is a gluing on a rough foam concrete, foam gypsum, then it must be pre-primed first.

Next, dilute the mixture according to the recipe on the package. For glued products and plywood, glue can be used without diluent. For the remaining bases, the required ratio is always indicated. When applying the mixture to wallpaper, usually a roller or brush is used. Cloths tightly attached to the walls and smooth with a dry cloth.

When applying the composition on the floor, it is convenient to use a spatula with wide teeth. And the thickness of the layer should be about 0.8 mm for linoleum, 3 mm for ceramic tile and 0.7 mm for pile carpets. If it is supposed to connect wooden structures, cardboard, it is important to apply a thin layer and press it for about 1 minute, and then leave it under the load. Depending on the thickness of the layer, the drying time can be different.
