Gypsum plaster - we learn more about it

The gypsum-based putty perfectly passes air, so its use is recommended in the interior decoration of the room. It can be used only for rooms with a low degree of humidity. It is ideal for working with GCR, as well as gypsum stucco, in addition, it is widely used on cement, concrete and wooden surfaces.

Gypsum putty allows to create a perfectly flat base for subsequent finishing with decorative materials. Conditionally it can be divided into starting, finishing and universal .Although starting it would be more correct to refer to the plaster mixtures. Because the purpose of putty is just the finish alignment.

Gypsum starting putty is mainly used for leveling and smoothing lime or cement plasters, as well as for wooden, concrete surfaces in rooms.

Gypsum plaster universal is intended for filling GKL joints, for sealing deformations and cracks in GCR, for plastered and flat concrete surfaces, for gluing to the surface of GCR, and also for combined panels.

Finishing gypsum putty is used for thin-layer finishing of flat surfaces, it is well compatible with the materials of the first layer of plaster.

Putty on gypsum base - what does it deserve our attention?

Building mixtures based on gypsum are characterized by an increased degree of strength and hardness, good chemical resistance, safety of use. In addition, they perfectly accumulate heat and have excellent vapor permeability.

Also modern gypsum putties are necessarily modified with polymers to improve the bonding of the material to the substrate. Thanks to this, they are distinguished by the ease of application, high plasticity, simplicity of grinding, surprising whiteness and durability of applied layers.

The only drawback of this type of putty is its limited use, becausein rooms with a high degree of humidity, putty is not recommended for this type.

Gypsum putty - the basis of the correct application of

Before applying the plaster filler to the surface, it should be well prepare :

  • if there is an old coating on the surface, then it must be removed; If necessary, degrease
  • with benzene solution or white spirit;
  • the work surface primed.

For puttying , the most appropriate use of an elastic wide spatula from stainless steel. With a continuous stretch, a spatula with a width of about 70 mm is required, and at a partial stretch it is about 30 mm. You will also need a drill with a mixer attachment, a construction grater or sandpaper.

As the putty is released in dry form, it is necessary to dilute it with water in recommended proportions. Using a drill with a nozzle "mixer" mix the composition to a homogeneous mass, leave for 5 minutes and mix again.

Due to the fast hardening of gypsum putty, the solution should be used within an hour.

When the composition is ready, a narrower spatula is taken and with it the mortar is applied to a wide spatula, and then distributed in a circular motion over the surface. When carrying out work on the GCR, the putty is applied only to the joints of the sheet.

If the surface is not leveled with one layer of putty, then it is necessary to apply several more layers. When the thickness of the working layer is about 3 mm, the consumption of gypsum putty is approximately 1 kg per 1 m² of prepared surface.

Between application of layers puttying it is necessary to allow to dry.4 hours after the application of the finishing coat, the surface remains to be cleaned with a construction float or sandpaper. After a day, you can use other finishing materials.
