Adhesive for linoleum - a brief review of

You can start from afar - with a division into two large species by nature basis. The glue is water-dispersible, produced on a water basis and used in most cases. Or maybe a reaction, which consists of two components and is prepared by mixing epoxy and polyurethane components.

Now it's worth mentioning about special cases of glue compositions, for example, for welding joints you need a special adhesive for cold welding of linoleum. And in rooms that require removal from the floor of static voltage, an adhesive is used for antistatic linoleum, containing conductive fibers.

Features of various types of glue for linoleum

Dispersive glue is easy to use, non-toxic, does not have an unpleasant odor, and recently there have appeared varieties that meet all environmental requirements and do not contain volatile components.

It also provides a high grip when working with absorbent substrates. However, when frozen, it loses its functions and becomes useless, so it is better not to buy this type of glue in open markets in the winter.

The dried adhesive of this type is adversely affected by water, which reduces the strength of adhesion to the substrate, as a result of which it should not be used if there is a possible abundant wetting of the substrate during operation, for example, in the changing rooms for shower baths or baths.

Two-component adhesive , thanks to the polyurethane component, is very plastic, helps withstand high loads, has a water repellent effect. Due to the absence of water, the coating does not shrink. Only it can be used for linoleum with rubber substrate, and also for the device of warm floors. The main disadvantage of this type is a rather high price. In addition, it is toxic, and when working with it, appropriate protective equipment should be used.

Rules for the use of adhesives for linoleum

Dispersive adhesive is used in the vast majority of cases when laying linoleum with foamed, homogeneous, fabric basis. Moreover, only this kind of glue is used for working with natural linoleum.

However, when applying this type of glue, it is required that the substrate on which the coating will be laid will have absorbent properties, that is, the ability to absorb moisture( concrete, wood, concrete-sand).This is necessary for the glue to develop a strong bonding force, penetrating the surface of the substrate.

For laying linoleum, apply the compound on the base with a notched trowel and press the strip of material to it, then roll it with a roller to remove air bubbles, which adversely affect the bonding quality.

Two-component adhesive is used in cases where the substrate is not absorbent( painted surfaces, old linoleum), subject to thermal expansion( warm floors), periodically moistened( dining rooms, kitchens). It is also used in places where high strength coatings are required, such as stations, airports, educational institutions. The application method is the same as for the dispersion adhesive.

Features of highly specialized adhesives for linoleum

Linoleum adhesive can be of two types: type A( for fixing freshly laid linoleum) and type C( for repairing old linoleum with divergent edges). It is transparent, most convenient in work, being packed in a tube with a needle. Its use is dictated by the location of the seams and instructions on the package.

Also worth mentioning is adhesive for PVC tiles , which, depending on the base material, can be both dispersed and bicomponent. The methods of using it are described just above.

Another composition, which should be given attention - adhesive conductive for linoleum .With it, work like this: after opening it must be thoroughly mixed, so that the current-carrying fibers are distributed evenly throughout its volume.

Then we apply it to the base and roll out linoleum, placing copper plates connected to the ground every 20-30 cm under it, and two transverse plates 20-30 cm from the walls of the room. Then it is necessary to carefully roll a coating to roll out air bubbles, which is a dielectric and worsens the conductive properties of the adhesive.
