Preparation of putty: mix composition
Putty is a material for finishing pasty consistency. It is applied to the surface, which in the future will be subject to processing. With its help, small defects on the surface are eliminated. The composition of this material includes the following components:
- Binders. Polymeric materials, linseed oil, varnishes and oil paints can be used, depending on the type of application.
- Fillers. This element divides the putty onto polymeric, cement and gypsum.
- Coloring pigments( zinc white, ocher, umbra, powder paints).
Gypsum mixtures are used for sealing joints on surfaces of gypsum boards, concrete, brick. They are also used for sealing large cracks and irregularities. A serious disadvantage is the inability to use in rooms with high humidity and in places with large temperature drops. For such premises it is better to apply cement-based putty, because they have excellent resistance to moisture. However, because of their shrinkage, it is necessary to apply the mixture in several layers. Polymer putties are based on polymeric adhesives, which makes this kind of mixes universal.
At the same time, this kind of material is the most expensive, but it has a low consumption and high plasticity.
Kinds of finishing mixes
All putties can be divided into ready-to-use and dry. Dry mix is used for leveling walls and ceiling. Before using it, it is necessary to stir it with water according to the instructions. For the final works, ready-made solutions are most often used. They greatly reduce the effort and time required to do the job. In addition, with their help you can achieve a perfectly flat and smooth surface.
Putty can be made at home. Recipes for its production there is a huge amount, but the same components are always linseed oil, chalk, sifted gypsum, animal or carpentry glue and varnishes. By mixing these components in various proportions, it is possible to obtain mixtures of different characteristics.

How to prepare the filler for different purposes
To prepare the putty you need: 3 kilograms of chalk, kilogram of gypsum, spatula, glue 5%, capacity for kneading. Preparation of putty requires careful sifting and mixing of gypsum and chalk. In the container in which the kneading occurs, the adhesive solution is poured and gradually the gypsum-chalk powder is poured into it. Stir is necessary until a homogeneous substance is obtained. It is necessary to take into account that the prepared mixture very quickly solidifies, therefore it is used for sealing of small cracks and defects. The gypsum-chalky solution is suitable for work in dry rooms.
For surfaces that will be painted in the future, another putty is made. It will require: 2 kilograms of chalk, a kilo of drying oil and 100 grams of desiccant. Putty from these components is used for surfaces that experience temperature changes and moisture effects. Also, the oil mixture is used for working with wooden surfaces.
For surfaces that will be processed further in other ways, a special mixture is made. To make it, you will need: 25 grams of linseed oil, 1 kg of glue 10%, 2.5 kg of sifted chalk. First, the solution is heated, then mixed with linseed oil and brought to a homogeneous mass. After that, chalk is added.
Tip! In such a solution, you can add soap, as it will make the filler more fluid.
