Which glue for mineral wool is best suited?

The structure of mineral wool is such that not every adhesive will provide a quality adhesion to it. Yes, it is possible to use epoxy putty, which after hardening acquires stone strength, and, for example, a tile fixed on such a composition will be easier to break than to tear off the wall.

Undoubtedly, the plates and basalt fiber will also be held firmly. However, epoxy resins are expensive and their use to fix the insulation is irrational. And even liquid nails are by far not the most ideal option.

There are special polymer-cement compositions with which mineral insulators can be fixed most effectively. This type of glue for mineral wool is produced as a dry mix, usually in large bags, like ordinary cement.

This composition is diluted in a certain amount of water indicated on the package, with constant stirring, for which it is best to use a special nozzle on a drill included at a low speed. Mineral wool adhesive has a high vapor permeability, that is, it has the same property as the insulation.

Applying adhesive for mineral wool

To ensure that the slab or mineral wool roll is fixed to the wall reliably, it is not necessary for it to cover the insulated surface with a thick layer, it would be uneconomical. Making sure that the surface of the wall is absolutely flat, without unreliable sections, we ground it with the obtained and stayed ten minutes.

Then on the back side of the heater apply mineral wool adhesive, covering at least 60% of the area, preferably along the contour. On the wall on top of the undercoating layer we throw up to 8 glutinous "flat cakes", into which we press our heat insulation.

Polymer cement glue does not solidify at once, therefore it is possible to first apply a plate with a solution applied to it on the wall, and only then align its position and adjust it to adjacent plates.

Sometimes you need additional reinforcement under the heater, and for this you do not need to look for any special adhesive composition or a new way of applying it. Do everything the same as described above, only the layer of the mixture on the heater plate should be at least 6 millimeters. We take a serrated grater and draw furrows along the surface of the glue mass, longitudinal and transverse, onto which we lay the metal mesh for reinforcement, and we cover the solution through it. To the wall we press on the same 6-8 "blunders".

Additional fasteners for mineral wool

As already mentioned, cement-based glue, even with the addition of polymers, freezes not instantaneously, so that right after the slab of the mineral insulation is pressed against the wall, it is not yet fixed securely.

And here in order for the fixation to take place, and the thermal insulation does not fall off as you move along the pasted wall behind you, you need additional fasteners. As such, for example, an anchor can act, if you add broad washers to them, or special spacer dowels.

The best fasteners for mineral wool are plastic dowels, equipped with large hats .Someone will ask how it is possible to hammer plastic into the wall( which happens to be of several types, among other things there is reinforced with fiberglass), but nobody calls you to such a translation of fixators.

In order for the plastic dowel to fit firmly into the wall, providing reliable fasteners for the mineral wool, it is first necessary to drill the wall at the intended points, and then drive the prepared rods there. Four or five anchor points will suffice.
