The permissible load on the material depends at times not so much on its strength as on the accompanying structural solutions, including the frame, if it is a plasterboard wall covering. This material itself is not particularly strong, it can withstand a maximum of 12 kg per 1 square meter. However, in the presence of a simple single frame, the resistance of gypsum board increases sharply, and it is able to withstand even at a load of 50 kg per square meter.

Having decided to use this material with the maximum benefit for itself, that is, having conceived to build shelves out of it, you should immediately decide whether they will serve to accommodate, for example, the collection of tin soldiers, or you will use them with the utmost efficiency.

In the first case, you can simply use small fragments of material fixed to the wall horizontally for a drywall structure, and to make the second variant it is necessary to build a framework for a volumetric hollow structure.

Drywall shelves - simple, beautiful, functional

If for ceiling structures a 6.5 mm thick gypsum board is usually used, flexible enough to create large figures with it, then you need a more powerful cover for the shelves. The standard thickness of gypsum cardboard corresponds to a range from 6.5 to 12.5 millimeters, but there are also stronger sheets - 15, 18 and 24 millimeters.

Sheets from 12.5 to 24 millimeters thick can be used for shelves. However, such material is somewhat more expensive. Therefore, if the drywall shelves you want to get three-dimensional, as an additional element of the design of the room, then the front of their plane can be made of strips 6.5 millimeters thick.

Such a design is made very simply, for this purpose you will need profiles, hangers, universal and angular connectors, and guides, from which, in fact, the assembly of the carcass begins. Having formed the future position of the rear part of our structure fixed on the floor and ceiling, we insert vertical profiles in them. Next we attach to the ceiling of the suspension and install profiles for the front part of our rack( the construction on the entire wall is the most practical option).

In fact, the whole process resembles the facing of the wall with plasterboard, but there is still a difference. Horizontal facial profiles together with the main ones form the basis for laying gypsum boards, they are fastened to the profile edges with flush screws. The front part of the rack is covered with pieces of flexible drywall. At the end of the carcass cladding, all surfaces are treated with putty, after which the structure is painted.

We build a cabinet made of plasterboard

Profiles that can be refracted at any angle with the help of sidewalls, along with easily processed plasterboard, are ideal materials for making structures of any complexity. In this case, the strength of the structures will depend directly on the design that you compiled, which must take into account both the frequency of installation of the bearing profiles and the total cost of the material( which increases as the number of parts increases).

Horizontal parts of the frame of the cabinet are mounted to the vertical with the help of crab-type fasteners.

For a cupboard cabinet, there is no need to build shelves, since the main part of it will be occupied by space for hanging clothes, however, if desired, you can make them. To do this, from the extreme profiles on the right or left, 500 millimeters are measured, and another row of vertical racks is installed, which are connected to the extreme and among themselves horizontal elements.

In this part will be located offices for small things, all the rest space will be occupied by a wardrobe. If you do not intend to make a wall-to-wall cabinet, the profiles for the side walls must be mirrored with an interval equal to the conceived wall thickness. When the gypsum board is finished, install the skids for the pre-made sliding doors from the chipboard, and the cabinet is ready.
