Cast-iron - modern realities

Modern production tries to find new options for creating stronger materials with good performance. One such is the alloy of iron and carbon, better known as cast iron. In this case, carbon can be present in the form of graphite or cementite, depending on the type of additives, gray, white and malleable cast iron are recovered.

The durability of ferrous metals, which includes cast iron, makes them the best material for the manufacture of lattices, gates, home decoration elements. Cast-iron pipes and batteries that could be found in every house are now replaced with modern options, but the value of the material does not decrease from this.

Types of welding of cast iron

can be cold-welded cast iron directly at the stage of creating the desired element, it allows to clean the parts as soon as possible, to create a high-quality edge, to conduct the after-welding prog, in order to finally work the element and secure it.

Despite the many options for working with cast iron material, the most reliable is considered to be gas welding, it allows to obtain a high-quality surfacing, which by properties will be similar to the base material. Typically, this method is used to repair damage, for example, attaching the torn off part of the structure, repairing the damaged smooth hole.

The welding torch used in the work is a tool with which a highly qualified professional should be managed, the process takes a long time, so often this method is replaced with a simpler one. In the case where it is not possible to pick up a part from an identical material, welding of cast iron communications with steel is carried out. Thanks to special electrodes, the work process is rather easy, the chemical composition of steel and cast iron makes it possible to create a quality replacement.

The correct polarity of the current on the welding machine makes the work as light as possible, and the result is durable.

Features of welding - act carefully

The main difficulty, which is often accompanied by the electric welding of cast iron, is the formation of cold cracks. Specialists working with the material carefully study the composition of the cast iron and the proportion of carbon inserts. Choosing the right mode of operation, you can avoid unpleasant consequences.

Studying the general and specific features of welding of cast iron, it is possible to create qualitative connections and to minimize the risk of formation of cracks and tears. Strong material does not have plasticity, quickly freezes and is considered to be fragile enough. Basically, it is with this feature of the alloy that all welding problems are related.

According to experts, welding hot cast iron is much more difficult than the cold version, but it allows you to get rid of the risk of cracking in the transition zones of the seams. When welding, it is necessary to try to evenly heat most of the surface of the product, too much difference in temperature between the seam and the main element can cause cracks and faults.

The complex welding of gray cast iron requires increased attention from the specialist, the material is difficult to heat and bond with other elements. In addition, at the moment there are several ways to carry out the procedure, the most optimal is chosen depending on the composition of the alloy, the percentage of carbon and iron.
