Description and scope of application

The primer is designed to improve the quality of the finished surface. The material processed by it absorbs less paint. Alkyd polymer not only fills small pores and cracks, but also mechanically strengthens the surface of the material, so the paint or putty on it does not exfoliate.

Alkyd primer is designed for the treatment of metal and wood surfaces before applying paint, glue or putty. It gives a half-matt film and dries within 24 hours. The basis of this substance is a mixture of synthetic polymers - alkyds, forming a strong film on the surface to be cut.

An alkyd composition is the best basic base for painting untreated wood, since it does not loosen its structure and does not lift fibers.

Polymer primer on an alkyd base is used for exterior and indoor finishing work. It is designed to prepare surfaces for painting, wallpapering and putty. Not only alkyd, but also latex, acrylic, nitro paint and enamel, PVA glue, universal adhesives, acrylate and acrylic fillers are well placed on the surface treated with this composition.

Alkydic compounds are not allowed to prepare for finishing gypsum and plaster surfaces. It should also be remembered that these compounds are not deeply penetrating, so they can not be used to fix loose and crumbling materials.

Alkyd primer: technical data

Properties of alkyd compounds intended for preparation of surfaces for finishing are very wide. In addition to improving the adhesion of the base material, they increase its water resistance. No less important are the antiseptic properties of alkyd polymers, which exclude the formation of mold and fungus. Among the basic technical characteristics of alkyd formulations are also:

  • Resistance to temperature changes from -40 ° C to +60 ° C.
  • Reduces the consumption of subsequent finishing compounds.
  • Increased resistance to abrasion and chemical attack.
  • Reduces the shrinkage and swelling of wood under the influence of moisture.
  • Protection of the surface of painted wood from the penetration of resinous areas.

Application technology

An alkyd primer is available ready for use. Before starting work it is necessary to prepare the surface well, cleaning it from dirt and drying it. A wooden basis is cleaned from burrs, and cracks shpatlyuyut. The metal surface must be cleaned from rust and degreased.

With this compound you need to work with gloves. Before application, the alkyd primer should be well mixed and, if necessary, diluted with uat-spirit, solvent or xylene to a viscosity of 21-24.

Apply a polymer alkyd primer with a brush, roller or spray in one or two layers. The time for complete drying of each layer at a temperature of 20 ° C and an air humidity of 70% is 24 hours. This primer is frost-resistant, so it can be stored at negative temperatures.
