Kinds of plumbing pipes and their features
Today's sanitary ware market is literally full of different materials. Are not an exception and sewer pipes, which are:
- Plastic - the most popular. They are made of polyvinyl chloride, polyethylene or polypropylene. Such products are intended for both internal and external works and, depending on the application, have different diameters ranging from 32 to 160 mm.
Advantages: anti-corrosion, resistance to damage, easy installation, reasonable price. - Ceramic - most often used for installation of external sewerage. The diameter of such pipes is from 150 to 600 mm.
Advantages: resistance to aggressive chemical media. - Cast-iron - gradually disappear into the past and replaced with lighter and cheaper analogs. However, they also have their advantages - corrosion resistance and high strength.
- Steel - are least used, because they quickly rust and decompose under the influence of groundwater.
Sewer connections
There are two main types of connection for sewer pipes:
- Split;
- All-in-one.
In favor of which way to make a choice will depend on the material of the pipeline and the peculiarities of its location.
Plug-in connection for
pipes The plug-in connection method, in turn, is divided into two more subspecies:
- Couplers.
- Flanged
The coupling type is used for connecting and repairing pressure and non-pressure pipelines of plastic with a diameter of not more than 63 mm. As a result, a collapsible drainage design is obtained, which greatly facilitates, if necessary, its dismantling and replacement.
Compressor or threaded coupling is installed in this way:
- The ends of the connecting parts are prepared: cut with a sharp knife at a right angle and carefully cleaned;
- The ends of the pipes and the inner surface of the coupling are treated with a special lubricant, which will subsequently serve as a sealant;
- To the coupling both joints are applied simultaneously and clamped with a lock nut equipped with a sealing ring;
No less popular for fixing pipes from PVC sewer pipes is a flanged method.
For this, a cast-iron flange fastener is used, which is mounted in the following order:
- The pipes are cut at the ends and cleaned from the barbs;
- The flange is attached to the sheath of the pipe, with the rubber gasket extending beyond it;
- After that, the flanges installed at both joints are connected with each other by bolts.
Non-detachable joints
There are several types of non-detachable pipe connections:
- Spigot;
- Welding;
- Adhesive.
The socket method is the connection of parts having a special thickening at the end - the bell. This method provides adhesive and welding fastening.
However, before performing the work, it is necessary to prepare the pipes. To do this, their sections are cleaned of dust and dirt, remove any roughness and burr, and then - lubricate with a special silicone grease.
As for the welding method, it is realized by welding the socket or butt-end. In the first case, both pipes are simultaneously melted by the welding machine: the first one is outside, and the second one is inside the funnel. After that they are connected as quickly as possible with each other.
Butt welding involves melting slices of pipes and connecting them without much effort.
Bonding of sewer pipes is carried out using a special adhesive suitable for a particular type of pipe. You can find such glue in any specialized store or in the market.
Step-by-step actions of bonding the working surfaces:
- It is necessary to clean and degrease the surface;
- Then, after the pipe sections, apply the required amount of glue;
- Connect segments to each other, fix until the glue hardens;
Any of the above methods is effective enough for a strict sequence of work and safety.
