Types of varnish mixtures

The varnishing of the parquet can be carried out in completely different compositions. They are subdivided according to:

  • technical characteristics( degree of fluidity, viscosity, application method);
  • chemical composition( on water, polyurethane, formaldehyde basis);
  • degree of gloss( gloss, matt, silky matt, semi-glossy);
  • performance properties( resistance to light, mechanical loads and other external factors);
  • impact on the environment( whenever possible recycling and harmless to the environment);
  • parameters influencing the appearance( the degree of transparency, the possibility of coloring wood).

Today there is rarely a dilemma - how to varnish cover the parquet? The market presents a huge number of types of mixtures from various manufacturers. Moreover, if you want to now apply a transparent composition to the parquet, then next time you can use a liquid with a certain shade. But most often the question arises, - what kind of varnish for parquet in the chemical composition?

Therefore, below we describe the main groups, their main pluses and minuses.

Water-based varnish

Water-based varnish for water-based parquet, in fact, it is a water-soluble, quick-drying varnish for parquet( the drying time of which can be 2-3 hours).Its main advantages include excellent adhesion characteristics. That is why it is often used for coating, including wooden bases, where it forms a viscoelastic, transparent layer.

Practical absence of a smell( or its minimum quantity) allows to apply structure in absolutely different premises. Plus, it has fire safety and non-inflammability. Of the disadvantages of these formulations, they are distinguished by their low wear resistance and, therefore, some additives are initially placed in the mixture.

For polyurethane floors with increased load, a polyurethane or polyurethane-acrylic dispersion is added to the adhesive. Also, the composition has negative manifestations when gluing the joints of the parquet slats( its side parts).And with high humidity, they are especially capricious, so they require compliance with certain working conditions( humidity should be at least 50%).

Polyurethane varnish for parquet

Polyurethane varnish for parquet is also called an anhydrous composition, which can be a two-component and one-component( DD and PUR-mixtures).Plus, it can have a different base - urethane, acrylic, using solvents. Drying is due to the evaporation of the solvent. On the surface form a dense, elastic film.

Of the main advantages can be identified its unpretentiousness to the microclimate of the premises( in contrast to the previous composition).Also has excellent adhesion properties and is suitable for rooms with strong mechanical loads( shops, cafes, restaurants).Withstands and the effects of chemicals( cleansing drugs).

Plus, it's light and heat resistant and glues the joints well. This is his advantage over water lacquers. The downside, perhaps, is that over time, the upper film can fade and turn yellow. And, of course, this is quite an expensive product.

Primer varnishes

Are used for the purpose of wood insulation, better adhesion. However, before applying this primer, you should check its compatibility with the floor( especially in worn areas).It is also important that the varnish and the primer are made on the same basis( for example, on water) and from one manufacturer. Usually, the packaging says what kinds of mixtures are compatible.

The composition has thixotropic properties, which limit the absorbability of the composition to the floor surface. Therefore, the consumption of varnish for parquet is significantly reduced. It is applied to a clean and level surface, along the fibers of the parquet. Drying time is from 15 minutes to 3 hours. It all depends on the absorbency of the parquet coating and the type of mixture.

This varnish for parquet is odorless and colorless, which adds to its advantages in use. Among other advantages, the possibility of protection from moisture and temperature changes, as well as the longevity of the coating, is highlighted.

Note! In order to know exactly whether you need this primer for parquet, consult with a specialist. After all, much depends on the conditions in which the floor will be exploited.
