Selection of idea for 3D painting

This method of decoration is used by world-famous designers, for example, the world-famous interior artist Tom Berg creates compositions that bear the owlproprietor of property and its guests in a real forest. In the works of Tom Berg, trees grow from walls, and three-dimensional landscapes breathe freshness and life into the room. The work of such masters is worth a lot of money, but using a little patience, desire and the necessary materials, gypsum walls are easily created with their own hands with minimal costs.

1

Approximate order of actions:

  • Create a 3D gypsum mural starting with an idea selection. The location of the mural, its lighting, size, materials and concept is selected. The idea is chosen based on your own preferences - sea landscape, murals in oriental tones, scenes from the life of wild animals, quarters of your favorite city and much more. Then the selected ideas are selected for the interior, so that the painting emphasizes it, blends in harmoniously and does not fall out of the general accent.
  • After creating an idea, it creates its layout - a drawing or sketch of the future masterpiece. Thoroughly thought out the size, so that the picture is not lost on the background of a large plane of an empty wall, but also did not press down its dimensions in a small room. With the help of such programs as photoshop, excellent layouts are created, which will clearly demonstrate the appearance of the future painting.
  • As the simplest ideas that do not require the installation of structures from wire or giposcarton and do not need a careful selection of lighting, there are murals in the oriental style. Intricate patterns and drawings are not difficult to perform, it does not require artistic and engineering skills, and they will complement the premises with exquisite beauty and style.

2

  • The landscapes are simple in execution without forward elements - branches of trees, waterfall cascades, animal figures and other things. In this design, much attention should be paid to its further design with paints. It will revive the painting, make it bright and intricate. To create complex shapes of the natural landscape use natural leaves and flowers. They are dried and covered with gypsum. This eliminates the need for complex modeling of such elements from a single piece of gypsum.

3

  • The size of the composition is chosen individually, based on the size of the room and your own aesthetic preferences. It can be a small painting around the switch, the door or in a corner free from furniture or the whole picture that makes out all the walls of the room.

The choice of lighting for the design of 3D painting with gypsum

One of the most important moments in creating the painting is lighting. The direction and intensity of the light stream completely changes the perception of the painting. Light hides all the shortcomings of the picture and highlights its virtues. In the absence of lighting or improper selection, some areas are obscured, this leads to visual deformation of the convex parts.

As a result, even the most even lines on an absolutely perfect painting seem spoiled. Select the highlight is already at the very end of the work, when the painting is completely ready. It is at this stage, by trial and error, or by a method of clear calculations, that illumination or ordinary stationary lamps are established, the light of which falls on the painting in the dark. If it is planned to create an internal illumination of a picture, then its equipment is thought in the very beginning, since then it is impossible to lay all communications in the wall without damage to the painting.

Installation and testing of the backlight is done during the creation of the composition. When creating a composition with internal illumination, think over ways of easy repair of its elements. If one of the lamps or diodes breaks, they can be easily replaced inside the composition without violating the integrity of the picture. To do this, leave small opening windows in the composition. Use wood, plasterboard, metal wire or decorative elements. For example, in compositions in the style of the night city, where windows of houses are illuminated by small lamps, the windows are made opening.

Materials used to create a 3D mural

  • When creating a gypsum mural on a wall, many materials are used. The basis of the whole composition is gypsum. It is used not only in its pure form, but also in the composition of gypsum plasters and putties, the quality of the composition is not affected. If you plan to lay large layers of material, it is advisable to use plaster. For fine details, toning and smoothing the compositions use a putty. To create hidden cavities and layers apply drywall.

  • If you need to create additional volume and strengthen the structure, use wood materials. For example, with their help frames are created, lines-borders, for delineating the composition space and creating straight lines, use rails and bars. Compositions with tree trunks protruding from the walls are created from real branches. They are well dried, fastened to compositions and then coated with gypsum solution, so that the wood organically fit into the landscape. Also, wood is used as a frame.
  • Metal constructions are strengthened with gypsum elements. Metal wire is an excellent material for creating elements of complex shapes. With its help, designs of the most varied complexity are created, hollow elements, animal figures protruding from the wall, details and much more.
  • In the formation of landscapes of nature use natural stone. From it form grottoes, waterfalls, rocks or beaches. To reduce the weight of the structure, it is advisable to choose shell rock or sandstone. The base of the stone is smeared with a layer of gypsum, if the composition requires it or simply polished and treated with lacquer.

  • To create a three-dimensional picture, use a specialized thick paint with filler. Such material is sold in art stores and helps to do volumetric smears. It is easy to prepare this paste and at home - in the primer or putty add color and mix until homogeneous. And this kind of mixture on gypsum surfaces creates a real monolith and better adheres to the base. For application on wooden surfaces in paste add PVA glue.

The limit of fantasy in creating a composition of gypsum is not. In the picture are added dried and varnished leaves of trees, which gives the image more realism. Dried flowers, inserts made of genuine leather or fabric, feathers, bijouterie and much more.

3D painting with

gypsum Once the idea is selected and thought out and all materials are selected, the wall painting with gypsum begins directly:

  • Apply the pattern to the selected plane. If a color image is planned, then the drawing is applied with multi-colored pencils to evaluate the correctness of the layout choice before performing the work. At this stage, some form and size adjustment is done, if they do not live up to expectations.
  • In the absence of sufficient artistic skills, stencils are used. The workpiece for it is drawn on the computer, and then printed. There are two versions of the stencil - hollow, in which the necessary parts are cut out, and then the inner lines are transferred to the wall. The second option is an ordinary drawing on a sheet, which is then transferred to the surface with carbon paper.
  • After transferring the pattern, mount all the reinforcing elements. In this case, the decoration of the fixing points on all adjacent surfaces is taken into account. All support structures from wood, metal or plasterboard are collected. When fixing and choosing the hardness, weight gain after work is taken into account.

  • Further conduct all communications and check their operation.
  • Now begins the creative process - molding. The first layer is applied with the starting putty, the reinforcing mesh is laid on it, it will help to unite all elements of the composition and protect them from the formation of cracks and peelings. To speed up the process of creating a composition, it is divided into zones - in one area the solution dries out, in the other there is a molding process. In some cases, additional wire or mesh reinforcement is required. The most important thing in the process of creating a painting is not to be afraid of mistakes and irregularities in the drawing. The individuality of the composition made by oneself is determined precisely by such small inaccuracies and mistakes.
  • In the simplest version, a stencil is applied to the puttying layer again and a gypsum pattern is cut along the lines.
  • After finishing all the work on the molding, when a rough version of the painting is ready, it is decorated and the volumetric drawing is created with structural layers. At this stage, all the decorative elements and volume lines are ready.
  • The composition is decorated and colored until the creator wishes it. Only creating a masterpiece the artist decides when the three-dimensional painting is completed. At the last stage, any deviations from the original project are possible, since the décor of the walls by a three-dimensional painting is a creative process that does not accept the mathematical accuracy of any repair work.

Addition of a three-dimensional painting - bas-reliefs

To supplement a volumetric composition from a gypsum and harmoniously to enter it in an interior the bas-reliefs will help. The technique of creating a bas-relief is similar to a three-dimensional painting. This is a conventional three-dimensional drawing, which is created permanently on the wall or with the possibility of transferring to a slip. If a three-dimensional composition made of gypsum is created in the room, it will be perfectly supplemented by a bas-relief of the same theme, placed on another wall of the room or in the next room. This will create a common image for the whole apartment. To create a bas-relief the following materials will be required:

  • sculptural clay;
  • stacks;
  • capacity;
  • knife;
  • water;
  • glue PVA;
  • rolling pin;
  • brush.

The process of creating a bas-relief looks like this:

  1. At the first stage, prepare the wall, the surface is brought to an ideal evenness, painted. If it is planned to create a portable bas-relief on a slip, it is prepared from the same mixture of clay, only more liquid. Bas-reliefs are also created on plastic, cardboard or fiberboard.
  2. The future image is selected and transferred to the wall in the same way as described in the three-dimensional painting method.
  3. Molding begins with the central elements, from which then the creation of the drawing moves to the periphery of the composition. The selected section of the layout is sculpted, and then placed on the outline of the picture. The shape is attached with the help of stacks - it creates corners, lines, shapes the figure. Thus, the element behind the element is laid out the whole picture. Before applying the upper layers of the bas-relief to the lower ones, they should be allowed to dry, otherwise they may be damaged. If the clay loses its softness and elasticity, a little water and PVA are added to it.
  4. When the composition is completely created, it is left for a week for complete drying.
  5. The irregularities are then removed using fine sandpaper. Dust from the picture gently blow off.
  6. Apply a mixture of glue PVA and water in a ratio of 1: 1 to the drawing. Leave the bas-relief to dry for another two days.
  7. After drying the protective layer on the bas-relief, varnish and paints are applied.

Caring for 3D gypsum painting and bas-relief

The rules of care for gypsum compositions are simple. The first few weeks it is necessary to protect the gypsum structure from moisture, dust and tobacco smoke.

Otherwise, it will lose its brightness, and the colors will change their tone. The protective layer of varnish to which the painting is to be painted must be updated. The frequency of this action is determined individually and depends on the intensity of light and the amount of dust in the room. Wipe the composition with a dry or slightly damp rag, also use a soft whisk for this.
