What can I use for?

Oil paints are mixtures based on a suspension and fillers. The role of pigments in it is performed by ocher, iron wax, zinc white and other substances. Fillers are chalk and talc. In addition, they can contain special substances that accelerate the drying process.

Such paints are applied to the surface with brushes, spray guns and rollers. At the same time, it is not recommended to apply them in a thick layer, as the layer may not completely dry out and, as a result, not find its protective properties. In addition, the surface for work should be degreased and cleaned. Oil paints are very easy to use, inexpensive and have excellent qualities for performing repair work.

They are produced in two forms: liquid and pasty. The first can be used immediately, and pasty ones must be prepared for work. There are different types of oil paints and they are used for a wide range of construction. They are used to apply to the following materials:

  • Metal;
  • Tree;
  • Concrete and bricks;
  • Plastic.

Note! There are compounds for indoor and outdoor work, and apply exterior paint for interior work and vice versa is not recommended.

Advantages and disadvantages

The composition of oil for outdoor works is used in the repair and construction of structures made of wood, metal and other materials that will be used outdoors. It is very resistant to various atmospheric manifestations. It can also be used indoors, but it is better not to process the floors, because with a high degree of exploitation it can quickly lose its appearance.

Turpentine, gasoline and other substances can act as solvents. Oil paint for interior works is not suitable for temperature differences and high humidity, but it has good adhesion with many materials, and it retains its appearance for many years.

Advantages include its durability, durable protective film and low consumption. On sale there are often oil compositions in only a few colors, so they are often mixed with artistic paints to make the desired color. Against the backdrop of all the merits of this material is a small drawback. Also, the disadvantages can be attributed to the fact that wood, painted with a thick layer of material, ceases to "breathe" and can peel off. But, using the correct technique of application, this can be avoided.

Note! For normal painting of wooden surfaces, it is necessary for the tree to dry well and the composition to be applied in a thin layer.

Oil paint for walls and other surfaces: preparation for operation

Before starting to work, it is necessary to carry out preparatory actions. The first thing you need to make sure that the work surface is completely dry and does not contain moisture. This applies to both wood and concrete, because oil-based paint for concrete, like all other types, should be applied only to a dry surface, this will ensure its reliable and durable adhesion. It is also necessary to remove old paint layers.

Determine which oil paints are best for use on a particular surface, you can by reading the manufacturer's instructions. The cost of the material is, depending on the thickness of the layer, from 55 to 240 grams per square meter. Important! Before use, the paint must be mixed thoroughly.
