What is a drainage gutter for?

Gutter - not a drop to the ground

Rain or melting snow is beneficial for garden and vegetable vegetation, but, of course, everything should be in moderation. The ceaseless streams of water quickly saturate the soil, after which it stops absorbing moisture, remaining and accumulating on the surface. In such cases, a gutter drainage concrete channel, stretched over the site, and in some cases deployed into a whole surface drainage system, is very helpful.

In order for the water to enter the rain drain from the roof, skates alone are not enough, the streams will flow along the entire overhang line. If water from such a height falls on the soil, the jets quickly wash deep ditches, along which they rush into the lowlands of the site. Even for concrete paths, the flows constantly flowing at them are not at all useful. Water, while it washes away the dust with small debris, but at the same time gradually destroys the concrete. Therefore, under overhangs it is recommended to install a trough hanging.

Where should the wall-mounted chute be located?

Strangely enough, despite the name, the wall trough is always placed in close proximity to the overhang of the roof, at the edge of the ramp. Actually, this is not even a trough, but a water barrier, that is, a low, from 15 to 20 centimeters, a rim in which the water flowing down the roof strikes, then rushes to the side of the least resistance. Of course, such barriers are installed at some angle to the overhang, so that two converging troughs in the lowest point hang over the funnel of the drainpipe.

The angle of inclination with which galvanized or polymer drainage gutters are installed directly depends on the amount of precipitation in the year .That is, if the rains are rare, a small enough angle, about 2-3 millimeters per 1 meter of gutter. But the optimal gradient is about 15 degrees. In this version, even if there has been an unprecedented downpour for a given area, or if there is an extremely large amount of snow, water( including thawed) will not overflow over the edge.

Rain gutter - ways of laying

Unlike a wall chute, the suspended rain gutter is attached directly under the roof overhang, and almost immediately, so that the water flowing from above, gaining some speed, does not flow over the chute. Hold the trough on the weight of special metal brackets, which are attached to the corresponding tray shape. Mount these fasteners can be either to the rafters, if they are moved beyond the upper edge of the wall, or to the windboard( which is also called the head), located under the overhang.

Fastening of individual trays to each other is carried out in different ways - double lying folds, if it is tin, and glue, if it is polymeric materials.

It should be noted that when mounting the rafter feet, the brackets must have a different deflection, increasing as you approach the corner of the building where the drain pipe is usually located. On the frontal board fasteners are installed simply on different levels, so that the plastic troughs lie under the slope. Ideally, the gutter should not be interrupted even above the funnel of the pipe, in this place a hole with sufficient capacity is simply cut, so that water does not accumulate at a high pressure. Under the gutters, concrete chutes are laid, along which everything that has merged from the roof, is sent out of the plot.
