Use of penetrating waterproofing for concrete, masonry, foundation

Penetrating waterproofing of the foundation is a necessary and important stage in the construction of a country house, which will protect the foundation from moisture.

Since the foundation is the foundation of any structure, its properties, characterizing strength and operation, must be very high.

Protection of the house from moisture both from the outside and from the inside is the first thing to worry about when laying it.

Penetrating waterproofing of the basement will protect the house from dampness, groundwater, rain, meltwater, formed during the melting of the snow.

How does the penetration waterproofing work?

Chemical reagents, sand and cement, reacting chemically with concrete, penetrate from the inside into the concrete, thereby increasing the water repellent characteristics of the foundation, increasing its strength, reducing shrinkage.

Due to the crystallization of the reagents inside the masonry, no voids or air spaces arise in the concrete, which can destroy it.

In contact with moisture, the crystals grow from the inside, that is, they provide waterproofing. If the humidity is not high, then the crystals do not change in the volumes.

Advantages of penetrating waterproofing:

  • is non-toxic;
  • is suitable for the treatment of surface and underground structures;
  • plastering or injection waterproofing is easy to use;
  • can be applied both from the outside and from the inside;
  • is a single unit with a foundation, therefore, it does not exfoliate and does not undergo mechanical influences;
  • is used for processing not only new, but also old concrete;
  • wide application: it is used for masonry, swimming pools, foundations of buildings, cellars, basement floors and other;
  • is one of the best ways to protect against groundwater.

Concrete structure treatment

Before starting to protect the foundation from groundwater both from the outside and from the inside, it is cleared from the ground, garbage.

The inside of the foundation is cleaned of mold, plaster, paint. Seams, joints, and breaks are sealed with a sealant.

Please note, if you are planning to carry out works to protect the already completed structure, the processing of basements from the inside is mandatory, since penetration of groundwater inside the masonry is the most frequent cause of destruction of the foundation.

The surface must be clean, so that the liquid waterproofing medium gets inside the masonry.

The foundation is saturated with water. The lubricating liquid is applied to the wet surface in two layers, with a mandatory break of not less than 6 hours.

Before re-applying, the concrete structure must be moistened. When working with liquid waterproofing, brushes are usually used, the layers are applied in opposite directions.

The foundation can be protected even before it is poured, for this, a dry mixture of waterproofing mortar is mixed with a dry mixture of the future concrete.

Sometimes combined protection is used, added to the mixture and the finished surface is treated.

Brick masonry protection

The waterproofing protection of a brick structure differs somewhat from a concrete one. They use two methods for protection from groundwater. Injection treatment and plas shirt.

To make an injection or as it is also called a clipping waterproofing, a hole is drilled through the entire surface of the brickwork.

The holes are staggered at a distance of about 250 millimeters from each other, their diameter is 25-32 millimeters.

The made holes are filled with waterproofing mixture, do so-called injections. When all the holes are filled, the coating mixture is applied to the entire surface.

In the second method, remove the top layer of bricks, the seams are expanded and filled with a protective compound. The entire surface is plastered, and a penetrating solution is also added to the plaster.

After that, the brickwork is treated with a penetrating waterproofing material.

Note

The qualitative penetrating waterproofing of the basement, the protection of the foundation from groundwater, meltwater, rain and other things largely depends not only on the properties of the material used, but also on the proper technology of working with it.

Do not forget that the waterproofing mixture is diluted with water, and not vice versa.

If the lubricant mixture has not been fully consumed, then it must be discarded, and for the subsequent work to do a new one.

Different kinds of penetrating mixtures are not allowed to be mixed with each other. Integrated protection is always more effective, therefore, in addition to penetrating protection, use roll and liquid waterproofing.

Penetrating waterproofing is used only for solid foundations and is not suitable for foundations formed by gradual flooding.
