Beams made of polyurethane: advantages anduse in the interior

Beams made of polyurethane made for wood, in appearance do not differ from ordinary wooden beams, although in practical termsysle, have several advantages over them:

  • easy weight - polyurethane lighter material than wood, so these beams do not load the design, they are easy to install and well kept on the ceiling and walls;

  • the presence of empty space inside polyurethane beams allows to hide small uneven surfaces on which they are installed, in such beams communication pipes and wires are well placed;
  • installation of polyurethane beams does not require special knowledge and special tools;
  • beams of polyurethane are resistant to moisture, temperature changes, ultraviolet;
  • data beams are absolutely non-combustible, therefore they provide full fire safety and assume the installation of wiring in them.

Installation of several decorative beams of consoles and fastening them with straps will create an excellent interior in the style of country. This kind of decorative finishing fills the room with comfort, style and romance. Special fastening of beams to the ceiling and walls, visually increases and expands them.

Installation of decorative beams will allow to decorate almost any style of a premise. They are mounted both on the ceiling and on the walls. With a competent approach to choosing the color and structure of the beams, the room will become chic and festive.

The classic style of the room, which implies the presence of right angles and lines, blends well with the beams of a moderate color scheme in the form of black or brown. The texture is missing or simulates a tree.

In the presence of delicate decorative elements in the classic interior, it is recommended to install beams decorated with artistic painting or carving. In addition, it is not superfluous to decorate them with paint or decorative plaster.

In modern styles such as modern or hi-tech, decorative beams with a smooth surface, made in bright colors, are used. With the help of beams it is possible to dilute and revitalize the monophonic interior.

Country or Provence style involves the installation of dark or light beams of polyurethane, which very well mimic the tree.

In addition to the above advantages of the beams of their polyurethane, it should be noted:

  • lower cost, compared to beams made of natural wood;
  • the possibility of fixing such beams on plasterboard structures and fragile walls, since the weight of such a structure is easier;
  • such beams, unlike wooden ones, are not exposed to fungus or mold, they are more durable and easy to care for;
  • beams of polyurethane are distinguished by a large number of color and texture scales.

Functionality of beams made of polyurethane for wood

Beams made of polyurethane are also called false beams, since they are able to fully simulate the necessary texture. Functionally, this material has several purposes. It hides small defects of surfaces well, besides it serves as a place for installation of communications in the form of electrical wiring, air conditioning system, etc.

Country style implies the use of falshalk. These materials are able to decorate not only the living quarters, but also look great in public institutions, such as cafes, bars, restaurants.

Polyurethane for wood is able to imitate oak, spruce, pine, beech and other tree species. With the help of such beams, it becomes possible to imitate an ancient castle, a rural life or a tavern.

As additional elements located on the surface of the beams there are belts, forged strips on which rivets are located. The room with the beams looks more comfortable and sound.

The installation of falshbalok from polyurethane begins with the product of the marking, the surface to which they will be fastened. On it it is necessary to designate the wedges ensuring fixation of the beams.

For the fastening of beams use the wedges of the beams. For their production requires a tree, which exactly copies the cavity of the beam. This cavity has a trapezoidal cavity and is similar to the shape of the bar. To fix it, you need dowels and screws. They fix the wedge beam along the central and lateral parts.

Installation of wedges is made with an interval of one meter, so when marking, draw not only the location of the beams, but also the trajectory of the beam assembly.

In the process of installing the beam on the surface of the wall or ceiling, it is necessary to pre-apply the adhesive to work with polyurethane materials. This procedure will provide not so much a fixation, but the absence of gaps between the beam and the wall.

Next, the false beams are installed on the wedges and their fastening with the help of self-tapping screws. At this point, you will need to mark on the side of the wedges. The decorative bracket or belt will help to close the places of fixation of the beam with the beam. If necessary, thus, several beams are assembled in one hinged structure.

When the false beams are assembled proceed to install consoles, these elements are optional and perform a decorative function and simulate the supports.

Pay attention to the presence of correct lighting, since the beams of polyurethane inside are empty, they assume the installation of wiring and recessed fixtures. As mentioned earlier, polyurethane is a fireproof material, although it has a certain temperature regime from -55 to +75 degrees. Therefore, the power of luminaires that are installed in the polyurethane decorative beam should not exceed 0.5 kVT, so as not to provoke melting and crystallization of the material.

When installing electrical wiring inside beams, it is recommended to use a protective sheath, such as a corrugated hose. Note that if necessary in the installation of wires or other communications, in the wedge-bars previously holes are made.

The diameter of the thinnest corrugated cable channel is one centimeter, so the minimum hole in the wedge-beam was 1.2-1.5 cm. To install the fixture the holes are cut with a knife, in relation to the diameter of the cantilever cartridge.

Tip: When making electrical wiring in a polyurethane beam, use metal corrugated cable ducts. Since from the plastic cable duct, in the event of a short circuit, the inner surface of the beam will melt.

To make parallel connection of spotlights type special hinges are made, it is possible to build them in combination with a corrugated hose. When cutting loops, the excess sections of the corrugation are cut off.

Decorative beams of polyurethane for wood with own hands

The self-manufacturing of polyurethane decorative beams implies the preliminary preparation of a mixture of polyurethane. This material is characterized by high strength and durability, therefore beams from it will last for several decades.

To produce polyurethane at home, a polymer with the SKU-PFL-100 marking is required. The main difference from alternative polymers is the absence of foaming in contact with oxygen.

This material is sold in packs in kilograms in the form of hardener curaton or curamin. In addition, an adhesive grease will be required to prevent the polyurethane from adhering to the mold.

After purchasing the necessary materials, you will need to prepare a tool in the form:

  • weights with weights;
  • set of empty jars of metal;
  • construction or household hair dryer.

Surface for work should be smooth and clean. When working with polymers, note that they are unstable against moisture, so it is stored for no longer than 30 days in a dry room and hermetically sealed containers. With prolonged storage, it is required to periodically dry the polymer mixture.

Get started with preparing the form. To do this, first determine the type of beam that will be manufactured. When manufacturing a semicircular beams of polyurethane with their own hands, a plastic pipe of the same diameter as two beams will be required. This pipe is cut in half with a hacksaw, and its edges are sanded with sandpaper. The resulting segment will serve as a beam. In this case, if you plan to reuse it, then you need to lubricate the surface with a release tape.

Before the main preparation of the solution, it is better to practice several times on small portions, for example, prepare decorative elements for the beams, and then the beams themselves. Warm the jar and clean it of moisture, if any. Pour into it a polymer mixture and calculate its weight without taking into account the can. For example, the weight of the polymer is 1 kg, then this amount of material will require seventeen percent hardener, that is 170 grams.

Add the polymer in one jar, and the hardener in another, and then heat both banks with a hair dryer. Their temperature should be at 125 degrees. To determine the desired heating temperature, look at the hardener and polymer, if they have a liquid transparent consistency, then it's time to stop heating. Keep them at this temperature for about 30 minutes, and then reduce it to sixty degrees. The polymer at this temperature is rather viscous, but when touched it is hardly hot. It is recommended to take rags for stirring the mixture, because in the heated state it clings to hands fairly. Gradually heat the hardener and pour it in small portions into the jar with the polymer, while using a wooden stick to mix them. In this case, small bubbles should form, so do not rush to mix the polymer with the hardener.

When the mass is uniform, leave it for a few seconds and start pouring it into the mold. Please note that it is necessary to constantly heat up the prepared mixture.

After the spill wait about 30 minutes, and then heat the finished mixture to a temperature of 100 degrees and this temperature should be maintained for two to six hours. Cool the material to 50 degrees and remove the finished beam from the mold. Leave the details warm for a few days, or better for a week. To extend the life of the beams, cover their outer part with liquid polyurethane.

3

In addition, it is possible to use an oven instead of a hairdryer, since it makes it very easy to heat the material to the desired temperature. For the permanent manufacture of products made of polyurethane, it is recommended to make a vacuum mixer, which will help speed up the process of connecting the polymer with the hardener.

Carry out the procedure in the absence of strangers, if doing polyurethane beams indoors, take care of the presence of hoods or good natural ventilation.

The beams are fastened together with glue for polyurethane products. Make a few cuts on the surface that will help to imitate wood beams. A variant of painting the surface is possible.

Simulation of beams of polyurethane implies the production of a bead of foam. To do this, you need a foam, used for warming the house, a thickness of 5 cm. Cut it so that the beams are of the necessary size and shape. Using liquid nails or glue, cut the cut sections together. Make a few dents on the surface, cuts, cut, so you can simulate the surface of this beam. Using a putty, fill the surface, attach it and paint it in the right color.

Polyurethane decorative bead - features

Polyurethane is a versatile material that acquires all shapes, sizes and textures. Therefore, manufacturers produce beams differing not only in thickness and dimensions, but also in density.

Polyurethane is able to imitate wood, metal, while imitation wood allows you to make polyurethane beams for any kind of wood such as cherry, beech, oak, plum, etc.

Each type of polyurethane beams for a tree differs in shade and saturation. The most common sizes of beams are the models 9x6, 6x12, 12x12, 19x17, 20x13.The length of the beams is from two to five meters. It is also possible to order polyurethane beams on request.

Please note that unpainted beams of polyurethane are two times cheaper than painted.
