Properties of plastic sewer pipes
The assortment of any pipes for sewerage systems is regulated by regulatory documents( GOST), therefore, in some cases, even a combined installation of pipeline sections from various materials is possible. We have already discussed the quality of cast-iron sewage pipes, checked by decades, it's time to turn to their modern competitors - plastic fan pipelines.
Let's see what we have in the process of installation and in the initial stage of operation of plastic pipelines.
- minimal problems at the stage of transportation, storage and transportation of segments of the future pipeline network: the weight of a six-meter PVC pipe with a diameter of 90 mm is only 10 kg;
- available set of adapter fittings for all diameters of PVC pipes for branching and drainage pipes;
- easy installation, both in pressure and non-pressure drainage systems;
- relatively high strength and hydrodynamic qualities;
- almost absolute corrosion neutrality: the effects of aggressive chemical compounds( acids, alkalis, surfactants) on polyethylene( PET) and PVC sewage pipes of any diameter are minimized;
- is a relatively small coefficient of thermal expansion, which, with a recessed gasket, ensures the integrity and alignment of the connections.
We will not talk about the disadvantages, because the foreseeable 30 years of working tests - the time is short, and the technology of plastic production is being improved. Perhaps the manufacturers have already found the perfect composite synthetic material, which we do not know.
Standards for the use of sewer pipes PVC
The main technical characteristics, diameter and range of products made of PVC( PVC) and other plastic pipes in household sewage systems are specified in GOST 51613-2000( for pressure variants) and BCH 48-96( for non-pressure drainage of domestic waste water).It should be noted that according to GOST these products are positioned as water pipes, however, their use in the sewage disposal channels is not specified.
The assortment of PVC drainage pipes is limited only by three sizes: diameter 50, 90 and 110 mm, which is quite enough for installation of a full engineering drainage network for domestic sewage.
The range of pressure structures is much wider( variable range is represented by 13 positions from 63 to 315), but in building practice a standard set is usually used:
- sewer pipe PVC 75 for draining from bathrooms in the house;
- diameter 100 and 110 - for arrangement of vertical risers;
- branch pipes of 150-160 mm in size to collector or septic tank.
If you do not plan to install the fan equipment yourself, then just trust the designers and builders, sometimes with a smart look controlling their work. Consider yourself a professional, then count the cross-sections( the size of the sewer pipes) and the hydraulic resistance of your network yourself.
Which is better: cast iron or plastic
The question is both simple and complex. Everything depends on the operating conditions and tasks that the sewerage network must solve. Let's consider two variants.
- Capital construction, and to such can be attributed most of the country cottages, requires not only serious costs, but also the thoroughness in the choice of building materials. Two bathrooms, dishwasher and washing machine, kitchen and street sink plus permanent residence. Estimate the volume of sewage and ask the designers to calculate the pig-iron distribution of sewer pipes.
- Holiday cottage for seasonal rest with a toilet in the yard. Load on fan pipelines is minimal, it can even be solved by surface wiring of low-pressure, non-pressure sewer polyethylene pipes, you can choose the sizes and mount them yourself. Almost no installation problems at a very affordable price.
Simply put, which house is such a technological style, and such diversity is even pleasing to us.
