Paint choice

Even those withwho do not have their own oven in the house, roughly represent what it consists of: a body made of stone or brick, doors, flaps, frames, handles, etc. All the construction is completely painted, even if it is made of the highest quality stone or metal.

For painting stoves, fireplaces and braziers, there is a special kind of paint that can withstand extremely high temperatures. Depending on the structure and composition of the paint, its purpose also differs. So, some are suitable only for the processing of stone or brick, while others can be safely used for painting dampers and grills that have direct contact with fire.

The heat-resistant paint for the furnace must withstand a minimum of 300-400C, since the burning temperature of a conventional paper is + 400C, wood + 300C, and if you heat the furnace with charcoal, it can give a temperature of + 900C at the stage of flameless combustion( but this is on the verythe surface of the fuel, and much less heat reaches the partitions and internal walls of the furnace). Most cans with heat-resistant paints say that they can withstand + 600C( sometimes up to + 750C), which is quite suitable for a conventional home oven.

The simplest solution is to go to the building store and buy a heat-resistant paint designed specifically for the stove, but the price of such products is often too high. Such a specific product assumes an appropriate narrow category of consumers, and marketers believe with confidence that if a person has enough money to keep a stove or a fireplace, he is able to buy expensive heat-resistant paint. However, even the most prosperous owners are not strangers to the desire to save, so you can use alternative means - many of the "ordinary" paints can withstand high temperatures. So, you can paint the oven with oil paint or simple enamel, but if the composition contains oil, then the surface may darken with time. There are other refractory paints for furnaces on a synthetic basis, for example, nitro experts often even advise using it for the treatment of thermosurfaces. Also suitable are pentafle compositions.

Useful to know: The composition and percentage of specific inclusions determines the scope of application of the paint. By and large, this varnish suspension with various additives, which form these or other protective properties of paint. In most cases, heat-resistant compositions contain silicon or silicone.

Let's say you need to paint an oven made from one material, but placed in different parts of the house, for example, one side is inside the room, and the other - comes out. In this case, you will have to work with two or even three different compounds, since the paint used in the house will very quickly crack and get down on the street, and for this you need to buy a heat-resistant paint with increased corrosion resistance. At the same time, anticorrosive compounds are available for metal and for concrete, since the properties of these materials are completely different, and protection is needed differently. But there is an easier option - universal paints that can be applied to any coating. On banks, usually indicate the consumption of funds when working with concrete, metal, stone and other materials( for the treatment of concrete surfaces, most paint is required).

Principle of operation of heat-resistant paints

Price of heat-resistant paint is determined by its composition, which, in turn, affects the heat resistance. Solutions prepared on a silicone-based basis have recently become more popular. They are used not only to cover furnaces and fireplaces, but also to update heat exchange equipment and heating appliances.

Helpful Hint: The properties of the heat-resistant paint can be changed by adding components. For example, with an organic resin, the drying time of the formulation can be increased, made more elastic and improve adhesion.

Aluminum powder helps to increase the heat-resistant characteristics - it can withstand temperatures up to + 600 ° C.

Refractory paints not only improve the appearance of the structure, but also extend its life. This is due to the fact that the paint uniformly and smoothly distributes the heat over the entire surface treated by them, so that the oven does not overheat. This is especially true for metal welds that have properties to melt away from prolonged exposure to heat. The paints retain the vapor permeability of the surface, protecting simultaneously from oil products and humidity, which are released during combustion.

Paint manufacturers

The Russian market is replete with heat-resistant paints for furnaces and fireplaces. In any construction shop, you can find at least three options from different manufacturers - domestic and foreign. Consider the most popular of them.

Paint NEW TON

The Ukrainian manufacturer is famous for its inexpensive, but high-quality products, and produces all kinds of compositions in aerosols. Heat-resistant paint for a metal oven from NEW TON is able to withstand temperatures up to + 600 ° C.It includes anti-corrosive substances that protect the metal from overheating and rust. It is quite elastic, durable and does not deform from temperature changes.

Before painting with aerosol enamel, it is necessary to prepare the surface - to clean the metal with sandpaper and degrease with solvent or alcohol. If it is possible to remove the metal part for painting, it is better to do it. If not - cover all nearby areas that are not to be painted, cardboard, film or newspapers.

Primer before painting does not follow - you can immediately spray the enamel, holding the cap at a distance of 25-30 cm from the metal( if you draw closer, the paint will flow). Before use, it is recommended to shake the can for 1-2 minutes to stir the paint.

If you have painted the flap, and it has not yet dried, it can already be put in place and kindled the oven - the enamel completely reveals its protective potential after the first incandescence to 20 ° C for 20 minutes.

Paint DuraHeat 2.0

A powerful refractory paint for the treatment of metal surfaces. A one-component compound is able to withstand temperatures up to + 1000 ° C, for which it was given the name. The mixture is based on a modified silicone resin and special pigments that resist extremely high temperatures.

Heat resistant paint 1000 reliably protects metal surfaces, preserving its color. It can process not only stoves, fireplaces and barbecues, but also car exhaust pipes, boilers, mechanical parts subject to heating, heating boilers, weapons components, etc.

Features high elasticity and good adhesion even to glossy surfaces. At a thickness of a protective film in 30-50 microns the expense makes from 10 up to 12 кв.m per 1 kg of paint. It dries at 20 ° C for 60 minutes, but the complete drying takes place at the first warming up to + 200 ° C for 1 hour.

Thermal paint

Heat-resistant enamel from the manufacturer of special-purpose paints. Thermal KO-8111 is capable of withstanding temperatures up to +60 ° C and can be used for processing metal and other surfaces.

Universal paint is available in a multi-color palette, so it is possible to choose the option in tone with the interior of the room. It is mainly used for anticorrosion treatment of steam lines, oil and gas pipelines, exhaust and smoke pipes, engine parts and other mechanisms. Protects not only from overheating, but also from the aggressive chemical effects of oils, saline solutions, wandering currents, chlorine, etc.

Paint Zerta

Heat-resistant paint Certa is designed for refractory and anti-corrosion protection of metal surfaces and parts from other materials. Like the previous tool, it protects the metal from overheating, exposure to chemicals( oil products, salt solutions, mineral oils).

Can be used as a heat-resistant paint for brick, concrete, asbestos cement, metal and other surfaces.

The uniqueness of the paint is that it can be applied even at negative temperatures and in the zone of action of the electrostatic field. The manufacturer gives a guarantee of 15 years.

How to paint the oven

To not need to repaint the oven after a year or two, you must carefully prepare the surface and buy the "right" formulations. Make sure that the purchased paint is designed for interior work, if you paint the fireplace or stove in the house, and for outdoor - for parts of the structure outside the house.

The painting consists of several stages:

  1. Clean the surfaces you will be painting, from the old paint, litter and dust. Metal parts must be degreased with alcohol or acetone, previously sanded with sandpaper. If you are going to paint the cooking surface of the oven, give it special attention and prepare every centimeter.
  2. If grease spots are found on the surface, they can be removed with a hot soda solution - turn off soda with boiling water, moisten a rag and attach to the spot for a couple of minutes.
  3. Dry the surface.
  4. Remove the old primer, if available - no primer is needed for thermal painting.
  5. It is possible to paint the oven at any temperature, but it is better to pre-heat it, as the final drying of the composition takes place at a temperature not lower than 150С.
  6. Apply the paint to the surface in any suitable way( roller, flat brush or spray).
  7. After drying the first coat of paint, apply a second coat. Heat-resistant paints should be applied in 2-3 layers( remember that to completely dry the paint, it is necessary to heat the surface to 150C).
  8. Immediately after the painting, melt the furnace or fireplace as much as possible to fix the composition.

If all the above instructions are followed, the protective coating will last at least 10 years.

Alternative: blasting

The refractory protection for a metal furnace or dampers can be created not only with paint. Previously, no one knew about any heat-resistant compositions, and the dampers and grates of the furnaces were treated by chemical oxidation, or simply by blasting. As a result, the metal surface became matte black and did not rust.

There are several methods of bluing, we'll tell about the simplest of them:

  1. Sand the metal surface with sandpaper of different caliber( from bigger to smaller).
  2. Treat the part with 5% sulfuric acid solution to remove the oxides.
  3. Remove acid residues with a solution of laundry soap. To do this, put 50 grams of soap on a grater and dilute in warm water( alkali will quickly remove acid).
  4. Burning is carried out with caustic soda. Make a solution of 50g per 1 liter and heat it to 140C.
  5. Apply caustic soda to the part by spraying. It is strictly forbidden to use brushes for this!

Finally a couple more folk recipes, or lifhhakov, as they are now called. These tips will help you avoid buying expensive thermal stoves for the stove. So, to treat the stove or fireplace on the street of stone or brick, use a gas silicate adhesive - apply it with a brush, like ordinary paint. If you need to process the metal, cover it with a silver one on the liquid glass. And if you go on vacation or do not use the oven for a long time( for example, in the summer), then treat all metal parts with a cloth soaked in lean oil.
