There are several ways to create stained glass on your own glass with minimal material costs and do not require from youspecial skill. For the flood method, aluminum wire and stained-glass paints are required. It is even easier to make stained glass by gluing a semi-transparent self-adhesive film.

Stained glass windows on the south side look particularly impressive. Sunlight benefits from the composite color range of stained glass.

Sketch and preparatory work to create a stained glass

1. To create a sketch of a stained glass window, photos can be found on the Internet, you need a sheet of paper or millimeter paper. On paper, an ornamental drawing of the future stained-glass window is applied with a thin pencil.
2. Choose the pattern of stained glass that matches your taste and harmoniously blends in the interior. It can be a geometric pattern, flowers, ornament of birds or insects. The space for imagination is unlimited. Do not forget to mark the colors on the paper template.
3. Ornamental grating can be made of aluminum wire not less than 1.6 mm thick or a special lead tape on a self-adhesive basis. This tape comes in a variety of thicknesses and can be tinted under the color of copper, brass or gray lead.

Buy a special palette of stained glass or aniline paints. For the second option - a set of multi-colored self-adhesive film is bought.

Production of a contour openwork lattice of a stained-glass window

For an outline the aluminum wire, a lead tape on a sticky basis or a relief paint for stained glass are used.

1. The glass sheet to be processed is located on a horizontal surface and degreased with acetone. On the pattern of the ornament, with the help of round pliers from the aluminum wire, the dividing contours are bent. The curved wire is beaten slightly with a hammer to give a larger plane and a reliable abutment to the glass surface.
2. A full-length sketch of a stained-glass window is put under the glass sheet. The wire is richly lubricated with PVA glue, adjusted to the contours of the pattern and pressed down by the load. Before gluing the wire can be painted golden, bronze or, under the color of copper, with acrylic paint.
3. The lead tape on the self-adhesive base is bent and pressed against the glass in place, focusing on the contours of the sketch of the stained glass window. Then the tape is rolled with a rubber roller.
4. A special embossed paint can also be used for the contour. Tubes with such a paint are equipped with nozzles of various diameters, with the overlay it does not creep and stiffens with an even edge.

The process of manufacturing stained glass by the filling method

This method is good in those cases when the processed glass can be placed horizontally.

1. Prepare aniline inks for work. Dry colors are diluted with distilled water, mixed and carefully filtered through gauze. Then they mix with the PVA emulsion to the consistency of the cream. In this form, the colors are well superimposed on the glass sheet and are well held on it.
2. To check the tone saturation, apply a layer of paint on a piece of glass and leave it to dry. The tone is clarified by the addition of an emulsion, but is saturated with a pigment dye diluted in distilled water.
3. The paint solution is applied from the edge of the contour to the middle of the fragment. Adding new brush strokes to the brush, keep track of the thickness of the layer. On this depends the saturation of the stained glass painting. After the application of the first layer, the time for complete polymerization is given, then the following layers are applied to achieve the desired saturation.
4. Covering the necessary areas of stained glass with one color, the brush is thoroughly washed, degreased and wiped dry. The next color is poured after drying out the adjacent areas to prevent sagging and mixing of colors of different colors.
5. Completely dried stained glass is covered with a clear varnish. The varnish will additionally interlock the scattered stained glass elements and give the canvas a shine. On the perimeter of the window or doorway is glued rubber seal. When installing the stained glass in the opening, the rubber seal smooths the unevenness and ensures a tight fit to the frame.

Applique stained glass technique from

self-adhesive film The filling method is not suitable for installed windows. To make a stained-glass window of a plastic window it is possible by a method of application. This is the easiest way to make a stained glass window by yourself.

To work with the film you will need:

• mounting knife and scissors;
• rubber roller;
• marker and pencil;
• degreaser;
• set of colored self-adhesive film.

The process of stained glass application:

1. The window glass is thoroughly cleaned and degreased. Degrease can be acetone or alcohol solution. Based on the full-size sketch, stained glass items from a multi-colored film are cut out.
2. A sketch of a stained glass pattern is attached to the back of the glass on a double scotch. On the outline of the contour lines, a lead tape is glued and rolled with a rubber roller.
3. The inter-contour space is accurately filled with colored parts cut from the adhesive film by the template and smoothed out with a rubber roller. Bonded the details carefully, along the way smoothing and driving out air bubbles. Small air bubbles formed under the film are eliminated by puncturing them with a needle and smoothing them with a roller. The details are made with a small tolerance on the contour and are adjusted by trimming the knife in place.
4. A similar procedure can be performed on the reverse side of the glass. In this case, the light throughput will decrease. Double-sided stained glass windows are recommended to be installed on the south side of the room.
