Causes of gap

Oftenthe slits in the bathroom may appear due to such reasons:

  1. The angles between the walls do not equal 90 ° as a result of disturbance of the geometry of the room and inconsistency with the building norms.
  2. The dimensions of the bathroom bowl do not match the room dimensions.

Often the problem of tightness of joints can arise as a result of a violation of the technology of repairing the room. For example, if the owner initially laid on the walls tiles, and only then installed a bath. After such actions, a gap is necessarily formed, which must be eliminated by additional efforts. This approach to the facing of the room is only advisable if the shower enclosure is installed.

Stitching up to 10 mm

This is the most common case that every third homeowner faces. Deciding how to seal a gap between the bathroom, you should pay attention to the sanitary silicone. This material is intended for reliable sealing of small joints and gaps in conditions of high humidity. Before starting to work on the spreading of seams, you will need to prepare the following:

  • silicone sealant;
  • large scissors;
  • construction gun.

2

As the process should ensure maximum insulation of the gap between the tiled and the bathroom, it is recommended to carry out preparatory work. The essence of their implementation is as follows:

  1. Clean the sides of the bath and the surface of the wall from the remnants of the old materials and dirt.
  2. Degrease the desired areas with any solvent.
  3. Thoroughly dry the treated area.

To carry out the seam sealing process, the following manipulations must be carried out:

  1. Take the sealant and use a pair of scissors to cut the tip of the cartridge. In this case, take into account that the tube in its form is a hollow cone, and therefore the thickness of the applied seam will depend on the size of the cut hole. The sharper the cut angle, the smaller and more accurate the line, and vice versa.
  2. Slowly applying pressure on the body of the tube, apply an even coat of sealant to the joint between the surfaces. It must necessarily be continuous. If you seal a slot with a plunger gun, then gently press down onto the trigger, after aligning the tip of the cartridge with the joint.
  3. Next, tightly fill the gap between the bathroom and the wall, while adjusting the pressure to prevent excess material from getting out.
  4. After completion of the process, accurately level the applied sealant with a rubber spatula or a finger soaked in soapy water.

Important! In case the bathroom bowl is made of acrylic, it is necessary to completely fill it with water before beginning the sealing so that it is under load. Do not drain the water until the drying time of the silicone material. The best option is to seal the seams in the evening, so that the bathroom has stood for at least 12 hours in a loaded condition.

Recommendations for the process:

When carrying out sealing operations with silicone filler, it is necessary to take into account some of the finer points, so that the result obtained meets the requirements as much as possible. Let's consider more details of work with hermetic:

  • the alignment of the applied joint can be done with a finger or a blade to make the joint more smooth;
  • when working with sealant, the room should be well ventilated, because when the material is dried, it releases acetic acid;
  • in order not to damage the tile on the wall with surplus sealant, glue the paper tape along the future seam;
  • can clean the remains of silicone filler with wet cloth;
  • solving the issue of hermetically sealing the gap, than fixing and gently joining the surfaces, give preference to the sanitary sealant, as it is resistant to high humidity conditions and will not cover with mold.

Clearing gaps from 10 mm to 30 mm

The appearance of a gap between the wall and a 10-30 mm bathtub is a more serious problem, but quite feasible. Specialists offer two ways to solve the problem: sealing seams with a curb tape and installing a fillet. Let's consider each variant in more detail.

Fastening of a border tape

For elimination of such backlash self-adhesive borders which basis is a special plastic approach. In this case, the fixation also occurs with the help of a sealant. Consider the process of sealing the joint:

  1. Initially, you need to buy a self-adhesive border tape of the required width. Take "with a margin" is not worth it, since the sealing should look aesthetically pleasing.
  2. Clean the surface of the wall and sides of the bath with a solvent, and then dry.
  3. Gently swipe the silicone sealant with a thin seam along the line of the future curb.
  4. For greater reliability, apply a special glue mixture "liquid nails" to the piece of tape, then firmly lay the material on the surface.
  5. Rubber spatula, press the tape, with effort of medium intensity.

Then allow the curb to dry thoroughly, for which purpose, exclude water from sticking to the bonded material.

Installation of the fillet

Another solution, than it is possible to seal the gap, is the fixation of a special glazing bead along the edge of the bathroom - fillet. The device is a plinth made of polyurethane, which is designed for operation in conditions of high humidity and does not absorb moisture. Consider the step-by-step installation guide for the fillet:

  1. Degrease the surface of the wall and the side of the bath with a solvent, then allow to dry.
  2. Measure the sides along the length and cut the fillets in the required sizes.
  3. Saw the corners of the skirting boards at a 45 ° slope, then carefully sand the cut surfaces with sandpaper.
  4. On the inner surface of the fillet, apply a glue mixture "liquid nails" and leave for 3 minutes.
  5. Then tightly apply the material so that it overlaps the gap.
  6. After this, once again, separate the plinth from the wall and let it lie for 2 minutes, so that the glue is slightly dry.
  7. Install the fillet at the joint and press it as close as possible to the base of the surface.
  8. Use a similar method to glue the material to all sides of the bath.
  9. After the pieces are fixed and dry, apply the aquarium silicone to the upper and lower edge joints. For this purpose, moisten the brush in the composition and make a thin layer along the plinth.
  10. This concludes the seams.

Recommendations of the to the process:

  1. To eliminate a gap of this size, the use of standard corners for tiles is unacceptable. Use only specially designed materials.
  2. The fillet installation is carried out in a similar manner to the corner bracket, however the difference is that the gap of more than 10 mm can not be filled completely with the sealant. This is not necessary, the main thing is to fix the plinth along the wall as tightly and securely as possible.
  3. Fixing a fillet is a complicated process, which may seem easy at first. Therefore, for better efficiency and accuracy of installation, it is recommended to first glue on one side, and then proceed to the rest.

Sealing over 30 mm

Despite the degree of skill of the builder and the quality of the materials, it is impossible to produce a gap of 30 mm or more by either the first or second method. This will require skills concreting and a little mounting foam or mortar.

Sealing joints with

solution In order to seal the gap between the bathroom and the tile with a mortar, you will need to do the following:

  1. Clean the joint from the remains of the previous materials and dirt.
  2. If the gap is large enough, then ply it with an old rag to eliminate the risk of a solution falling through. At the same time, soak the auxiliary material with a liquid cement-sand mixture.
  3. Then you need to wet the area of the future weld to increase its grip.
  4. Then proceed to pouring into the cavity of a cement-sand mortar of medium density.
  5. At the end of work, allow the mixture to dry for 48 hours and do not expose this area to moisture.

As the cement on the wall worsens the aesthetic characteristics of the interior of the room, it needs to be refined. Here you can distinguish such options for finishing the seam:

  • if the bathroom is not tiled, but simply painted, then you can gently plaster the joint and paint it in the tone of the room;
  • for walls with tile finishing it is acceptable to glue alongside the side of the bath a special curb or decorative plinth;
  • if the room is decorated with plastic, you can fix a plastic plinth or ribbon-curb along the tub.

Filling the slot with foam

If you do not have the time or desire to work with the solution, you can simplify the task and eliminate the slit with a mounting foam. To do this, you will need to perform the following:

  1. Thoroughly clean the junction of contamination, and then degrease the surface with a solvent.
  2. Allow to dry.
  3. Thoroughly shake the can with foam, and then apply the compound to the gap between the wall and the bath. Take into account the fact that the expansion increases the foam up to 30 times in volume.
  4. Allow to dry for 40-60 minutes.
  5. Remove excess material from walls and bathroom with a paint knife.
  6. Upon completion of the procedure, it is possible to proceed to the lining of the seam according to a similar principle with decorating the joint after the mortar.

Important! For performance of work choose foam of waterproof type, optimally - one-component polyurethane material.
