One of the most popular materials for rough finishing of walls is plasterboard. This is not surprising, since it is easy to work with gypsum, it allows you to create a perfectly flat surface, and also costs much less than plaster. However, the classic method of installation involves the use of metal profiles, this imposes certain limitations. Therefore, today the method of gluing drywall becomes urgent and is rapidly gaining popularity.

Advantages and disadvantages of using an

glue The installation of a drywall on glue is quite simple. But, like any technological process, it has its advantages and disadvantages. The obvious pluses include:

  • speed of work performance( labor productivity is doubled),
  • no additional costs for the profile,
  • minimal reduction in living space,
  • possibility of correcting serious defects without using plaster,
  • reliability( the adhesive allows to maintain the integrity of the gypsum sheet, so itwill not crumble),
  • strength( the use of glue allows you to create many more reference points, which makes the design much stronger).

With such indicators, the use of the profile seems completely irrelevant, nevertheless it is not so. If it is a question of creating multi-level structures, metal can not be dispensed with. In addition, the ceiling sheets are mounted only on the profile. Another significant drawback of the method of gluing is direct contact with the wall. The only thing that plague is afraid is moisture. If the wall is preet or is located on the north side, this in 90% of cases will mean that the gypsum will get wet. As a result, the surface of the wall will be destroyed. Naturally, this problem is quite easy to solve, but additional costs will be required. A less significant, but also an important drawback is the impossibility of using isolation. Some experts advise to glue the back of the gypsum foam and produce a glue already on it. This method goes against the construction norms and greatly reduces the wear resistance of the structure. Any mechanical impact can lead to the fact that the edges of the foam will come off and the wall will collapse.

Drywall varieties and features of their use

Despite the fact that there are only three types of drywall, the scope of each species is practically unlimited. In order for the bonded structure to be as strong as possible, it is necessary to consider in detail the application of:

  • ceiling,
  • wall,
  • moisture-proof.

Ceiling plasterboard is the thinnest and lightest. Its width is only 0.8 cm. At the same time, its strength is not inferior to the wall( with a width of 1.2 cm).The difference is that when mounted on a profile, the ceiling gypsum board crumbles from the screws much more and does not endure mechanical loads. If we are talking about gluing technology, then the sheet reliably adjoins the entire plane to the surface and creates a solid foundation. It is advisable to use this option for economy, since thinner sheets are cheaper.

Wall gypsum cardboard is relevant only for the installation of bulkheads and false wall. The technology is quite simple, but it includes elements from the metal profile. It is necessary to install the upper and lower guides and screw the first sheet to them, then glue along the whole plane small pieces of gypsum, the width equal to the planned wall. Then the mineral wool for sound insulation is laid, and the second sheet is glued. It is not necessary to screw it, as a rule, guides are not installed. The appearance of a moisture-resistant gypsum board turned the notion of this material and expanded the possibilities of its application many times. Traditionally, it is used for toilet and bathroom installation, but if it is a matter of gluing, then it is used to equip walls that are in the risk zone. The only material that does not matter is shell rock. All other types of stones, blocks and monoliths are prone to accumulation and release of moisture. It gradually penetrates into the gypsum and breaks the integrity of its construction. Suppose, when it comes to concrete, the gypsum will get wet after 2-3 years, for silicates 4-5 years, red brick - 6-10 years.

The condensation process is intensified due to the temperature difference. The phenomenon is observed in the winter. It is completely impossible to avoid it, but high-quality thermal insulation slightly reduces the accumulation of moisture. Especially this applies to the northern part of the house, since it is least affected by the sun's rays, therefore, it does not warm up well and dries. Moisture-resistant gypsum solves all these issues. Moisture-resistant plasterboard has a water-repellent coating only on one side, it is highlighted in color. If the installation is made on the internal walls of the room, then the waterproof layer is installed face outwards, if on the outside - then face to the wall.

Adhesive for drywall which to choose

In fact, the concept of glue for drywall is very abstract, since absolutely any adhesive mixture with the addition of gypsum will replace ready-made analogues, in some cases it will turn out even more reliable than ready mixes( if it is a question of large unevennesses, which must be filled, the glue is prepared from 3 parts of cement, 2 parts of any glue and 1 part of gypsum). If you do not want to invent your own solution, we recommend that you contact the trusted companies, among them:

  • Knauf Perlfix,
  • Quelyd Mural,
  • "Brozex Hyper Contact",
  • "Perlgips",
  • "Volma-Mounting-Frostproof",
  • "Unifix".

Knauf is the world leader in the production of mixtures for construction and finishing works. The company's products are considered to be one of the best quality and meet all European norms and standards. It is glue for drywall, the price of which is really justified by quality. Image1

Exceeds the quality of the legendary Germans, only the French company Quelyd. This is reflected in the cost. Despite the active advertising campaign, the adhesive for drywall differs only in that it is already sold in a diluted form. This makes it possible to achieve the most durable bonding, but if there is an electric mixer( drill with a special nozzle), any other product will in no way give way to Quelyd. Accordingly, the main advantage is a minimum of dirt and an increase in the speed of work. The rest of the producers are domestic firms, the price of one bag of glue ranges from 200 to 220 rubles. In terms of quality, they are almost the same, so the choice depends on the distribution. It should be noted from practice that although Knauf Perlfix costs 250-280 rubles.for a bag, in private construction it is much more reliable. In addition, the consumption of material is somewhat less than that of other analogs.

How to glue drywall on walls?

Although the process seems simple, it still requires careful preparation and precise execution of the instruction, otherwise there is a risk that the glue will fall off. First, let's look at the preparatory stage:

  • wall, regardless of the type of surface, you need to clean, use a grid for grouting the plaster, then a dry rag( done to remove the elements that are separated from the wall),
  • then the surface should be taped with a rubber mallet, and again wiperemove all loose elements), the
  • wall is ready for priming, antiseptics and additives against fungus and mold should be added to the paint,
  • should be primed at least twice with interruptions of 45-50 minutes( it is impossible to patch the ground, assurface to be processed without any gaps, and she paint soak into the top layer at least a few millimeters, to create a robust protective cover).

Then we glue the drywall on the wall. There are several options:

  • on a flat surface,
  • on brick,
  • for large irregularities.

Each of the types of gluing will differ from each other, so we will dwell on them in more detail and consider all the subtleties of the technological process.

Plastering drywall on a flat surface

Under a flat surface should be understood as monolithic concrete structures or plastered stone. Although this surface is not perfectly smooth, it still allows you to do without a serious correction of the sheet. For work you will need:

  • tableware for breeding glue,
  • drill with a stone drill,
  • set of dowels with screws,
  • construction knife,
  • rule,
  • level,
  • rope or line.

Despite the fact that the visual surface looks flat, in practice it usually turns out that it has certain defects. In the best case, the wall will have a slope up or down( right / left), at worst - a "paunch" will manifest. Drywall sheets weigh a lot, so it is difficult to win back the slope. To simplify the procedure, immediately set the beacons.

Further everything is simple, on the back side of the sheet is applied glue, the breasts should be located at a distance of 25 cm from each other. Before applying the sheet to the wall, it is desirable to sprinkle it with water from the spray gun, wet with a rag, roller, etc.categorically not allowed. After the first sheet is pressed, it is necessary to adjust it along the beacon, and fix it with dowels( just screw two screws around the edges of the sheet). At the beginning, the bottom row is set, then the top row. Stitches must immediately be smeared with glue, in this case it will replace the putty, and also will connect the material not only with the wall, but also with each other. When using this technology, the space is saved as much as possible, in addition, there will be virtually no voids. In terms of reliability, the gypsum will withstand tiles or any other decorative material. If you plan to install shelves or hanging cabinets, the fasteners must necessarily enter the main wall. For this, the recommended depth of fasteners is the distance from the wall to the sheet of plasterboard plus its width.

Plastering of plasterboard on masonry

Differences from the previous method are not significant. Nevertheless, the masonry assumes the presence of certain defects. This means that the glue will not be evenly distributed over the surface. As a result, the sheet is not fixed securely. Therefore, the surface must be prepared. It is done as follows:

  • cut one of the sheets into small rectangles( 10x15 cm),
  • paste them on the wall at a distance of 10-15 cm from each other,
  • check the rule for depressions or "belly",
  • set beacons.

Next, the glue beads are applied directly to the workpieces to which the sheet leans. After the gypsum is glued, it must be checked by level. If everything is straight, it is fixed with dowels. As in the previous method, the seams are smeared with glue residues. Image6

The technology is not universal and largely depends on the type of stone. Red brick perfectly interacts with any kind of glue, the same is true for foam concrete. If it is a question of silicate or cinder blocks, then the question of which glue to glue drywall is becoming relevant. Although the finished mixtures are considered universal, in practice this is not always confirmed. Therefore, the selected adhesive must be upgraded. For this, add 10 kg of glue:

  • 1 kg of gypsum,
  • 0.5 l of PVA glue,
  • antifreeze additives.

The main chemical substance of silicate brick is "Silicium", in its pure form it is sand. The physical properties of the material are such that its thermal conductivity is above 100%.This means that in the cold season it freezes instantly, and in warm weather it heats up. Such temperature jumps have a bad effect on glue and require additional astringents( the simplest of them is PVA).

The thermal conductivity of cinder blocks is much lower, but the material itself does not interact well with the adhesive, therefore, in addition to the specified additives for the same volume, it is necessary to add 2 kg of cement and 0.5 l of PVA.This will create an ideally strong mixture, which will ensure a monolithic connection of gypsum with the wall.

Plastering gypsum on uneven surface

There are no difficulties in this case. The procedure almost completely repeats the process of installing gypsum board on the masonry, except that instead of a single sheet of substrate, a few are glued. Another option is to use the homemade mixture indicated in the section on the choice of glue. It is worth noting that the difference between these options is cardinal. The use of several, glued together substrates is more reliable, but takes considerably more space, the solution is not glue in the full sense of the word, but it allows you to reduce the space from the wall to the gypsum. Requires more powerful fixation with dowels( at the edges and at the center). To see more details on how to mount drywall on glue, watch the video.
