Pasting of the wallpaper is one of the simplest options for decorating walls in the room. Today there is a large number of wallpapers not only in color and texture, but also in the material of manufacture. For wet rooms, there are washable wallpaper. Some species allow multiple painting of their surface. Of all kinds of wallpaper, the most common, simple and cheap are paper. About how to glue the paper wallpaper and will be discussed in this article.

Features of paper wallpapers

High demand for paper wallpaper is due to low cost, environmental friendliness and a large selection of varieties. In addition, the paper is very simple to work with, so you can stick such wallpaper to anyone and anywhere, except, of course, rooms with high humidity.

Release wallpaper from paper in a huge range, both in color and pattern, and in the texture of the surface. It can be smooth and embossed. The structure of the base is single-layered and multilayered. There are wallpapers that require coloring or impregnation.

The main advantage of the paper is its environmental friendliness. The walls, covered with wallpaper from paper, can freely "breathe", since air is passed through. Glue for them is made from natural substances without the use of chemicals. Adhesive paper wallpaper is usually in living quarters. They are especially shown in children's rooms and bedrooms.

Disadvantages of this type of coating are obvious - it is a fear of moisture, impracticality and fragility. Can not paper wallpaper hang on the walls for more than 10 years. Most likely their appearance will be fairly spoiled even earlier. Abrasion is another scourge of paper wallpaper. Particularly exposed to it are external corners and areas around switches and sockets. Rapid burning in the sun is also not a secret. When gluing walls with paper wallpaper, you should remember about such drawbacks as inelasticity and low strength. Therefore, they must be glued with great care, so as not to tear. The walls should be perfectly even, as under the paper all the smallest irregularities will be visible.

Types of wallpaper on paper basis

Paper is a sufficiently versatile material, so it is possible to make products with different properties on its basis. This is also actively used in the production of wallpaper. According to the degree of density of the paper basis, the wallpaper is divided into simple, medium density and dense. According to the method of printing a picture, they are divided into primed, unprimed and embossed. According to the structure of the basis, several independent types of wallpaper can be distinguished:

  • Smooth paper wallpapers are made only of paper. The drawing on them is applied on the one hand with the usual typographic method. The cheaper the wallpaper, the rougher the grade of paper from which they are made. More expensive models are produced with a primer, which covers the entire surface before applying the pattern. This layer of soil prevents fading.
  • Duplex wallpaper is produced by gluing one layer of paper to another and applying a pattern. They are more durable, so they are not subject to tearing when applying, and when removed from the wall, they do not cause any problems.
  • Embossed wallpaper is two-layer, and the top layer is also a pattern with a pronounced relief.
  • Structural wallpaper is created by mixing the pulp with chips or crushed nutshell. This gives not only additional strength and structure, but also creates a non-trivial interesting design.
  • Foamed wallpaper is also two-layer. Above they are applied an acrylic layer, foamed with high-temperature processing. The result is a beautiful embossed surface with a pattern.
  • Waterproof wallpaper is covered with a special polymer coating, so they can be safely washed with a damp cloth and detergents.

All paper wallpapers produce rolls, standard sizes of 0.53 x 10.05 m. It is worth noting that some of the more expensive types of paper wallpapers are presentable and respectable. For this reason, they are sometimes confused with vinyl wallpaper.

The process of sticking paper wallpaper on the wall

All existing types of wallpaper glue approximately the same. However, there are some differences. The easiest way is to cover the walls with paper wallpaper. They are unpretentious, so for them any, even the cheapest glue will do. The surface of the walls does not require any special preparation. It will be enough to wipe it with sandpaper and apply a primer. This is done for better adhesion of the adhesive composition and the surface of the walls. If the premise is new with a rough finish, then you can simply cover the applied surface with a primer. Sanding is carried out by a paint spray with light circular motions. The primer is applied with a wide roller with a fur coat. For this, it is convenient to use a conventional painting tray. The primer is applied evenly to the entire surface of the walls.

To produce the work, you need to prepare a tool:

  • A sharp office or special wallpaper knife with detachable replaceable blades. Before work it is necessary to be reserved by a set of demountable blades as they quickly enough goof. Do not change the blade immediately, once felt that it blunted. If you look closely, you can see that it has parallel risks, which should simply be broken off as it dulls.
  • Wide and narrow rubber rollers. Wide is needed to roll up the webs of the wall surface, and narrow to form joints between neighboring panels.
  • Plastic spatula for bleeding air bubbles.
  • Wide brush for applying glue.
  • Measuring instrument.

Preparation of wallpaper panels

Before starting to cut the roll into panels, it is necessary to prepare a working surface. To do this, put any polyethylene film on the floor. Roll roll up on it face up. Attention! Before cutting the wallpaper, carefully study their drawing. Choose the optimal start of the fabric, so that when you combine on the wall of the picture there are not too large segments and the roll is enough for the maximum number of panels. Most often on a standard wall from one roll you get 4 cloths. If you do not need to combine the pattern, then this step can be skipped, and the wallpaper can be cut starting from the beginning of the roll.

For aligning the pattern, cut off the first panel, so that the top part of it can hold the complete element of the picture and 2 - 3 cm of the stock. The lower part is cut so that the length of the blade is below the skirting, if it is not installed or it is possible to remove it. Otherwise, measure the length to the plinth. At the second cloth first cut the upper part, combining the pattern. Then only cut the excess from below. This is done with all the pieces of the roll. You can trim the wallpaper in two ways, either using a gon, or by folding.

After the whole roll is cut, the cloths are turned face down and start applying glue. If the wallpaper is thin, then the glue is applied very thin layer, so that the paper does not soak completely. Especially carefully you need to smudge the edges, where there will be joints. After that, the wallpaper needs to be folded in a special way with the glue accordion to the glue, so that they do not dry out, and the glue is well absorbed. After that, proceed to the layout of the wall. The panels should lie for 5 to 10 minutes before gluing on the walls. It should be specified in the instructions for glue. There is a problem: if the wallpaper is too swollen, then after drying, they will strongly shrink and all joints will disperse. To avoid this, you need to find a "golden mean".The thicker the wallpaper, the less they stretch.

Wall Sticker

Bonding starts from walls where there are no openings. The first sheet is glued from the corner of the wall with a window. For marking, a strictly vertical line is drawn from the ceiling to the floor. To do this, you can use a regular thread with a weights. The line should pass at such a distance from the corner to ensure overlapping its canvas along the entire length of at least 3 - 5 cm. Before gluing the panel, the line where the joint will be is to be glued with additional glue. In the corner paste a sickle, which will ensure the integrity of the wallpaper in the future.

When everything is ready, they begin to glue the first cloth. The main guideline here is the vertical line that we conducted. Bonding starts from the top, leaving a reserve and gradually sinking down, and controlling the verticality along the line. Smooth the canvas with a roller from the center to the edges from top to bottom. Movement should describe the "herringbone".At the corner, the edge will bend to the adjacent wall. The distance will not necessarily be the same. It depends on the smoothness of the corners. If folds appear in the bending process, they must be eliminated by cutting. Do it better with scissors, because with a knife you can tear a clap of wallpaper.

After gluing the first cloth, it is necessary to squeeze out all the air bubbles with a spatula and roller. The edge is cut with a knife on the upper corner with a spatula, which presses the panel to the cornice or ceiling.

The second cloth is glued to butt with the first. In this case, a surplus of glue expelled from under the canvas is removed with a soft rag. The top is cut in the same way. Joints roll a small roller as hard as possible. In order not to create gaps, joints try to make dense, making sure that it does not overlap. The remaining panels are glued in the same way up to the angle. It repeats the manipulations done with the first corner.

If necessary, then the last canvas is cut along. The bend at the corner should not be too large. The wallpaper sticker on the adjacent wall starts from the corner, along those bends that are left. Cut along those paintings that are adjacent to the window and doorways. Lastly, small details are glued over the windows and under them.

If you decide to wallpaper the wallpaper next to the heating battery, then take care of the strength of the adhesive composition, since the usual glue will most likely fall behind under the influence of high temperature. To prevent this from happening in the glue tray, you need to add a little PVA.This will ensure reliability even in such extreme conditions. It can also be used for wallpapering old, heavily soiled and uneven walls. Only you need to know that tearing them off later will be very difficult.

After finishing the pasting, carry out a revision of the whole work. If deficiencies are identified somewhere, they are eliminated. For complete drying of paper wallpapers it takes at least 2 - 3 days. During this time, in no case can not open the windows. Otherwise, all your works will go to nothing. Drafts and temperature changes adversely affect the adhesive, which simply bounces off the surface along with the wallpaper.

Pasting with paper ceilings

Ceilings are rarely pasted with paper wallpaper, as this is quite inconvenient. For this purpose it is better to use glass piles, as they do not need to be greased with glue. If you still decide to use paper wallpaper to cover the ceiling, then you have to tinker. To glue such wallpaper on the ceiling you need a two or three. For this purpose only fine types will approach, as thick and heavy will simply fall off, not having had time to seize. For the convenience of work, tables or woods are prepared, for which it will be possible to move freely along the entire panel.

Glue the panels across the room so that the segments are smaller. The sticking starts from the opposite side of the door to the side of the room. In this case, you have to cut the canvas above the door, which is not so obvious. If you can not glue the wallpaper to the ceiling buttress, then there is one method. The adjacent cloths are overlapped. When the glue dries sufficiently, a knife and a ruler make a cut in the middle of it along the entire canvas. Both pieces must be cut. Then carefully remove the cut off parts of the canvas. To simplify the task, you can use a double-seam knife. Formed edges are lubricated with glue and rolled with a roller. They are perfect for each other. Do not complicate your task and buy wallpaper for the ceiling with a matching pattern.

Pasting paper wallpaper on premises is a feasible task for any person. In order not to be disappointed with the results of its work, it must be carried out in accordance with the instructions set out above.
