What should be the slope of the sewer pipe - calculation and table

When installing the sewer system in the house, one of the most important issues is the adherence to the optimal slope of the sewage pipe. What is this concept, for which it is necessary to observe the angle of inclination and what should it be? These questions are most often of interest to people who first encountered the construction of a sewage system in a private house.

What is the "slope of the sewer pipe"?

Sewerage in our homes and apartments( the vast majority of them) is a gravity system. Therefore, it is quite clear that the sewer pipes should be sloping. But the concept of the "angle of inclination" is very arbitrary, and the unit of measurement is not a degree, but a centimeter per meter of pipe length. These units you will find in any SNiP, instructions and recommendations.

Pipeline specialists are well aware that in degrees it is impossible to measure the slope of sewage pipes: if you make a mistake of several degrees, then even a few meters the pipe can lead absolutely not to where it was planned.

Why is it important to observe the angle?

Consider two options: what will happen if you make the angle of inclination too large or too small.

Insufficient slope of the pipe leads to a decrease in the speed of movement of the liquid along it. This is unacceptable, because water stagnation occurs in the pipe, while fat settles on the walls of the pipes, particles of solid fractions adhere to it. In the end, all this leads to a clogging of the sewage system.

Too much pipe tilt, oddly enough, can lead to the same effect. The fact is that in such pipes the liquid will move too fast, and the solid particles, not having time behind it, will settle on the walls. The result will be the same clog, and in the worst case, water closures can be thwarted. The excessively steep slope of the pipe also leads to its premature wear.

With the optimal slope of the sewage pipe, the sewage rate is kept within the range of 1 to 0.7 m / s. In this case, the solid constituents are suspended in water and do not settle on the walls, the walls of the pipes are self-cleaning, and the risk of blockages is minimized.

Optimum slope of the sewer pipe

The optimum slope angle of SNiP determines depending on the diameter of the sewage pipe:

  • for pipes 50 mm in diameter - 3 cm for each meter of the pipe;
  • for pipes 100 mm in diameter - 2 cm for each meter of pipe.

If the distance between the connected devices and the holes is less than one and a half meters, you can slightly increase the slope. On very short sections, compliance with the angle of inclination is not so important.

Thus, it turns out that the shorter the sewage pipe, the greater the angle of inclination.

If the optimum slope parameters are met, the sewerage system will work silently and correctly. Of course, compliance with these rules can not give a full guarantee against clogs, and such a nuisance can still happen, but after some quite a long time.
