All glass partitions can be divided into several basic types.

Fixed partitions or walls. At the organization of such design decision the glass wall fastens on a constant place, thus the glass is established in several ways:

  1. Frameless installation. In this type of installation, a sheet of glass is attached to the supports( ceiling, floor and adjacent sheet) by means of special connectors and spiders. The advantage of frameless installation is the amazing appearance of such a partition. Visually, it erases the boundaries between the various rooms in the functional area, although each of them remains separate. The disadvantage of this type of wall is the need to use a particularly durable glass, which has an impressive weight. A simple glass of this area with impact or other increased loads can simply burst. In doing so, we must not forget that it is a traumatic material.
  2. Frame walls. Usually the frame for the glass wall( partitions) are metal-plastic constructions. They have an excellent sound and heat insulation, which, with their help, can easily make a private office or rest room, denoting their space. In comparison with frameless glass walls, frame structures are more durable, however, they lose in terms of aesthetics.

Sliding glass walls are installed on roller bearings and roller suspensions, which allows them to change their position on the principle of a sliding door wardrobe, or makes them rotate around their axis. Movable partitions allow you to vary the entrance to the room, which they are fenced off. Particularly popular in recent years are mobile partitions in the form of a half-radius. Their frame is an arc, which moves, opens the passage to the room.

By the type of material from which the interior glass walls are made, they can be divided into:

  1. Walls from sheet glass.
  2. Walls from glass blocks.
  3. Walls from another type of glass.

The last group includes glassware. This kind of material is very often used in the construction of houses. The walls of bottles or jars have very poor thermal conductivity, which allows them to maintain a comfortable temperature in the house. In addition, this house will always be filled with light.

Glass blocks are a building material made of cast glass, regular shape and various sizes. The advantage of glass blocks is that they have a greater thickness in comparison with sheet glass, which allows them to be used for the construction of external walls. Sheet glass for outdoor work in our latitudes is not entirely suitable.

Installation of a glass wall in the kitchen. This option is very popular. Increasingly, the kitchen is made to be combined with a living room, that is, a single unit. There are many advantages to this solution. Thanks to this, you can visually expand the space, as well as make the kitchen more functional due to the increased area. Where there was a wall before, you can put a bar counter or a few more kitchen boxes. However, the problem with this solution is the smells that will now spread from the kitchen area throughout the living room. Installation of a sliding glass partition of transparent sheet glass will help to solve this problem. At the same time, visual expansion of the space will not be affected in any way.

Wine bar can become a perfect solution for the kitchen. A glass wall with illumination, behind which guests will see the reserves of a noble drink, will help to save the optimum temperature for its storage.

Installation of a glass wall in the bathroom. Very often in homes where there is an exit from the bedroom to the bathroom, install a transparent or frosted glass partition. Such a solution has both an aesthetic side and a practical one. Firstly, the glass wall between the bathroom and the bedroom can emphasize the design style, and secondly, it will save on the lighting of the bathroom, because the glass, even if it is matte, very well passes light.

Personal account. If the apartment provides for an open layout, glass walls can be used to arrange a private office so that if necessary, it is possible to work in silence. At the same time visually in the room there will still be more area.

Quite popular in recent years are the exterior walls of thick sheet glass. Basically, with the help of them make out the exit from the living room to the backyard. In this case, natural lighting in the living room will save on electricity. In addition, an excellent view of the backyard with its flowering trees in spring and fiery-gold foliage in autumn will be an excellent addition to the interior of the living room.

Installation of glass blocks for walls with their own hands

The glass wall made of glass blocks can be compared to an ice sculpture. It can give any interior a fabulous look.

Installation of such a wall is done in two ways:

  1. Bricklaying. In this case, the glass block is placed on a special solution.
  2. Installation on a special frame.

For the first version you need:

  • Glass blocks.
  • Adhesive mortar, perfect for ceramic tiles.
  • Grout for joints.
  • Mortar spatula.
  • Sponge, plumb lines, level, dowels.

Work order:

  1. Begin work with marking the area of wall mounting. For this, two parallel lines are marked on the wall and the floor, the distance between which is equal to the thickness of the block. The smoothness of the lines on the floor is checked with a level and a plumb.
  2. Next on the outlined lines glued PVC tape. It serves to ensure that when the house shrinks, the partition is not damaged.
  3. The stacking of blocks always starts from the wall. On its lateral and lower parts, a solution of about 3 cm thick is applied. After that, the unit is mounted on the tape and, gently tapping, is mounted to the desired position. The correctness of the installation is checked with a level. Thus, the entire first row is established. During installation of the blocks, spacers are placed between them.
  4. After laying two rows, it is necessary to reinforce with reinforcement or reinforced tape.
  5. After laying 3-4 rows, it is better to take a break for 1 day, so that the solution has time to grab. The fact is that the glass blocks have an impressive weight and the upper rows can so push the bottom solution, which can cause a different gap between the blocks of the lower and upper rows.
  6. Even before the solution hardens, it is necessary to clean joints between blocks with a knife or spatula. In the cleaning process, you need to remove the crosses. Reuse them will not work, because when cleaning, only the head part of them falls off, and the wedges remain forever inside.
  7. After laying the last row, the wall is left for a day so that the solution can dry well. After that, they begin to trowel the seams. In principle, this process does not differ from grouting the seams of ceramic tiles.

Installing blocks on a modular grid is a faster and cleaner process. However, the partition mounted in this way differs from the first method in its strength and sound-proof qualities.

Modular grid is a cell made of plastic or wood, into which glass blocks are inserted. The grate is fixed to the wall and the floor using dowels. In the cells themselves, the block is held by means of gaskets.

Partitions of sheet glass are mounted on special systems. For their selection, it is necessary to accurately calculate the weight of the glass. The easiest way is to order a ready-made system, which will be manufactured according to the size of the room and will be delivered packed. Further installation of a wall made of glass will not be difficult. The only necessary thing is the strength of the fasteners, because such a wall weighs quite impressive.

Installation of semi-glass walls

Such walls are usual partitions of brick or blocks, pasted with glass tiles. Such a wall has excellent heat and sound insulation qualities, while it looks no worse than a wall completely constructed of glass.

Glass tiles, with which the partitions can be removed, can be of several types:

  • Glass Container - tiles, the size of which varies from 65x65 mm to 100x100 mm. It has a translucent structure, often decorated with patterns, from which steal large panels.
  • Marlite - large plates from 100x100 mm to 150x150 mm and larger, and up to 9 mm thick. A beautiful "marble" pattern of different shades can decorate any room.
  • Stemalite represents glass panels on a very large wall from 400x900 and more. Make this tile of super strength glass.

All plates are laid, like ceramic, on a special glue. The only condition is the use of a white glue solution for the transparent tile.
