Souvenir, lacquered cutting boards, designed to decorate walls in the kitchen. However, modern masters began to make such accessories with the possibility of their further use in everyday life. One side of the souvenir board is decorated with carvings and ornaments, and the other is a clean tree.

Traditionally it is believed that the shape of the cutting board should be square or rectangular, but today it can be purchased in absolutely different types: oval, round, contouring like an apple, fish and so on.

To be tiring not to look for a cutting board suitable for you, it can be made on your own.

To cut meat, it is recommended to use thick and heavy boards. For slicing vegetables and greens - small mobile and multifunctional. In your kitchen it is better to have a complete set of boards of different size and purpose. According to the classification of boards are divided into such types: cutting, decorative, decoupage and carved.

  1. Edge boards. They are most popular for cutting meat. On such a board you can make chops or entrecote. The board is capable of withstanding blows with a hammer. Oak edge board is very strong and much less blunt than knives, unlike conventional boards.
  2. Cutting board made of solid beech, pine, birch and bamboo.

The most budget option is a pine board. This board is easy to handle and has a low hardness.

Birch and beech boards gain in quality due to their hardness and strength. But their minus is excessive hygroscopicity. The moisture acts on such boards is fatal.

Chinese bamboo cutting board is less popular, but its cost is much less than the price for an oak or birch.

Raw material for making a cutting board

Before you make a cutting board with your own hands, you need to select the material. For these purposes, raw materials are used from wood, silicone, plastic, stone and glass ceramics.

  1. Tree. In the hardware store you can often see beech, oak or pine cutting surfaces. It should be noted that such surfaces are suitable only for slicing bread or dry vegetables, as the tree of the above varieties is quickly destroyed by the action of moisture.

Bamboo kitchen boards are distinguished by their high strength and resistance to pressure. Moisture-proof, perfectly wash and do not absorb food smells.

Chopping boards from acacia and oak - a choice of professionals. Their advantages are high quality. The disadvantage is high cost.

Care. The wooden cutting board can not be washed in the dishwasher. It should be rinsed under the faucet, but do not soak in the sink. Once a week, the tree must be wiped with vinegar essence to get rid of germs.

  1. Stone. Marble, granite and stone cutting surfaces look very impressive. Marble has bactericidal properties, does not tolerate on its surface too hot objects and treatment with acid-containing substances.

Stone cooker made of stone is ideal for rolling out dough, which turns out to be evenly thin on it.

Care. The stone surface must be periodically cleaned from blockage, since this material must "breathe".With proper operation, cutting boards made of stone can last for a long time.

Plastic. In this case, you should choose only high-quality plastic, which has heat-resistant and moisture-resistant properties. Board of good plastic is more durable and hygienic. If you are going to make a board of plastic yourself, then choose a colorless material that does not contain toxic substances.

Care. Plastic can be washed in the dishwasher. After cutting meat or fish, the plastic board should be washed with a liquid dish remover. And for disinfection, you can place it for 2 minutes in a microwave with a glass of water.

  1. Silicone. Kitchen cutting surfaces made of silicone have long gained their popularity in the market of kitchen utensils. Silicone does not slip on the surface of the table, does not absorb odors from the products and does not blunt the tip of the knife. It is convenient to store it in a collapsed form. Silicone mat in its functions does not differ from the traditional wooden board.

Care. Wash the silicone mat with an acid-free detergent. It is also permissible to immerse in a dishwasher. This material can withstand both high and low temperatures.

  1. Glass ceramics. The chopping board made of this material is durable and resistant to bumps. It is easy to clean, resistant to high temperatures and completely does not absorb food smells. For use in kitchen conditions, this is not a very practical option, as the knife quickly dies on the glass surface. Glass-ceramic board is ideal for decorating kitchen interior and stand for hotter.

Care. To be washed in the dishwasher.
