Where and why to fix the skirting oak?

Oak is considered to be one of the hardest tree species, although it can compete with larch and even birch, also called "iron tree"( it can only be found in one single reserve in Russia).Durability of oak is also much higher than in most other breeds, due to what this tree is widely used in the construction industry.

Logs, boards, beams - that only do not make of reliable wood of gray color. The plinth of oak is also in great demand, which is perfectly combined with an array of the same wood with which the floor covering is laid out. Contrary to the opinions of many shabashnikov, the skirting of oak is attached to the wall, and not to the floor, for the simple reason that the thickness of the laths in recent years has become quite small, which is why it is easy to damage them.

Nails or screws are usually used as fasteners. The first is best used if the walls are applied with high-quality plaster, while the nails must be thin enough. Screws, as a rule, are screwed into pre-drilled holes in the wall. On top of the fasteners for greater aesthetics paste special plugs, picking them in color to the oak. Actually, the skirting board itself can be glued to the wall using liquid nails, if it is carefully leveled, and the bar is strictly vertically oriented.

What do we know about the plinth of oak?

As you know, there are different types of skirting, in particular - from the array, veneered and curved, designed for the edging of columns. The most noble, though not belonging to the euro class, is the plinth of oak - the gray massif looks impressive even with a small thickness. However, such material has a significant drawback - a high price.

There is also a more economical option, which, however, certainly does not suit true aesthetes - it's a veneered plinth, the base of which is made of cheap wood, such as fir, and the front is covered with oak veneer.

Separately, it is worth mentioning the curved plinth, which is manufactured using a special technology and can have a different radius, under the columns of almost any thickness. Of course, there are restrictions, the minimum radius to which you can bend a wooden rail is 20 centimeters, then the critical stress of wood begins, and at some point it breaks. With marble columns, the skirting of bleached oak is very beautiful, but to complete the design of the room, it is necessary that the flooring conforms to the color.

To make the bent skirting easier to mount to columns of circular cross section, it is sold in an already bent state, for which special rigid plastic packages are used.

Secrets of wooden plinth

To decorate the room looked respectable, you must try to select the floor and plinth so that they are from the same wood, or at least from the trees belonging to the same family. So, for example, the oak belongs to the beech family, which means that the plinth from this tree will be well combined with the beech floors.

Compared to the most durable plastic, the oak has undeniable advantages - it is stronger, it is environmentally friendly material and, most importantly, the wood is repairable, whereas the plastic plinth in the presence of defects can safely throw .

The only disadvantage of wooden skirting boards is the absence of a channel for wires, but this defect is already successfully eliminated with the help of prefabricated elements, which, nevertheless, remain the same array. Initially, a special fittings are attached to the wall, then a strip of skirting is put on the back plane using a special shaped part.

Just under it there is enough space to lay a cable there, both electric and network. However, electricity under the skirting boards should not be missed, for this purpose grooves are made in the walls, which are then hidden under the layer of plaster.
