Pipe die - the principle of operation of

Nowadays it is difficult to find a field of technical facilities where threaded connections are not used. To their indisputable merits is the simplicity of the action performed for the connection or disconnection. The main thing is that the external and internal threads coincide in size. A special kind of threaded tool for creating an external thread was called dies.

Dies can be used for manual or machine use. The design has special cutting edges calibrated to the standard and the size of a metric or inch thread with a certain pitch. By the thickness of the instrument is located from eight to ten of these cutting turns, made in the form of cones.

To remove the formed chips, the so-called chip pockets( holes) are made in the die. Although the most widely used dies for cutting small diameters, there is a special category of tools of larger sizes.

Size of dice and other parameters - what should I know when working?

Based on their function, the plates are manufactured taking into account the classification features and the system for measuring threaded connections. For example,

inch dies are designed for threading, all parameters of which are expressed and determined in inches.

In technical documentation, an inch is usually denoted by a double stroke, which is written immediately after the number indicating the thread size, the step of which is indicated in fractions of an inch. To designate the tubular cylindrical thread is accepted by the Latin letter G. An important feature is considered the equality of its nominal size to the tubular gleam.

By analogy with the above, the is made with thread parameters in the corresponding measuring system, in which the size is indicated by the letter M. It should be noted that the sizes of these two systems do not match, therefore can not be used together.

When working with products of different diameters, a number of tools are often used that make up the necessary kit. At the same time, hand-designed sets include dies with a difference in size of half a millimeter, calculated for a pair application.

Dimensions of the dies are selected in such a way that a larger diameter thread is first performed, along which the final pass is made with the desired size of the die. This allows you to get a more accurate result with a high quality product.

For carrying out the described work in the threaded kits the dowel switch must be switched on. It has a special holder, corresponding to the size and shape of the set of dice, and a couple of clamping screws with conical tips. On the outer edges of each plate there are reciprocating conical grooves for their secure attachment.

Today, the most commonly used die is round. It is more convenient to use and allows threading in both the metric and the inch system. In this case, the release of collars and holders does not require specialization and is universal in this respect.

Typically, these tools are used to create internal threads, but there is a special thread-rolling plate. With its help, the external thread is rolled, which is of high quality and is considered to be stronger than the internal one. The design is distinguished by the presence of rollers for thread rolling.

Set of dies - non-standard solutions for creating threads

The majority of threaded connections are made with the right direction of the turns( or right-hand thread). However, for a sufficiently large type of connection, their reverse rotation is necessary. This requirement is fulfilled by the left-hand dice, which must be marked with the Latin letter L.

The earlier differentiation was caused by the peculiarities of the designs of large and small tool sizes. The first( with the possibility of adjusting the threaded parameters) was called dies, and the second ones were called lacquers. The Lerck plate made it possible to achieve greater accuracy when working with small diameters. Currently, this division is considered obsolete and is rarely used.

A special shape is provided by a conical die. It is used to make threads on such critical elements as drifts, taps or risers. Wooden dies can be used as clamps and locks for special devices: for example, in workbenches or similar structures. Obviously, solid wood should serve as material for their implementation.
